Carmela is an incredibly skilled healer who has raised my quality of life significantly since I began seeing her. I have multiple co-morbid chronic illnesses that leave me battling chronic fatigue, pain, migraines, depression, anxiety, etc. I have seen a consistent reduction in my generalize pain, an improvement in my mood, and she's taught me skills to help me cope with my anxiety attacks. She has even helped me with my allergies. Most dramatically, though: I've been using a cane pretty consistently for years because of pain and poor balance. In our last two sessions, Carmela has treated me using the Zhu scalp acupuncture technique and, as a result of this treatment, my balance has improved significantly and my reliance on my cane has been radically reduced, to the point that I mainly use it only for stairs or for occasions when I will be on my feet for an extended period of time (like the five hours I spent walking though a recent convention, for instance). I would highly recommend Carmela to my fellow Spoonies. She is thoughtful, caring, and very gifted at what she does. read more

I felt defeated and hopeless. I had a relentless, rash all over for monthes - on my face, arms, legs and stomach like poison ivy that never healed. I randomly and frequently had my throat swell closed and my lips swell. I have to carry an EpiPen with my and Benadryl. I had been to two immunologist/allergists who could not help me. I had Alfa Gal from a tick bite and a secondary problem that my husband and I had found was seemed to be from sulfites found in many foods with preservatives. My son called me and suggested I try and alternative to get help with the Alfa Gal. He had spoken to his minister who also had had Alfa Gal and discovered there was a form of acupuncture that could help. He found Carmela Mager, who had 25 years of experience and had learned this particular form of therapy. We made the appointment which changed both our lives! Carmela informed us as to how she would treat the Alfa Gal ( which made me intolerant of beef, lamb and pork) and then gave me a list of things to avoid that may help. She prescribed enzymes and a probiotic which helped enormously. She told me to do some reading on sulfite allergy. I did! I found studies on it which matched my life! Within a week, I started seeing the rash slowly heal. The acupuncture not only got rid of the Alfa Gal but also my hips no longer hurt. I can now eat pork, beef and lamb again. I started to have more energy. I can garden as I love to do. I felt and feel GOOD! My husband has been doing most of the cooking lately. He says we are on this journey together. Carmela has made life better for us both. She has a wealth of knowledge and generously share it! Our great thanks to her! PWB read more

I have been seeing Carmela Mager, Acupuncturist, weekly for Almost 3 years. I came to her in bad shape from chronic illness, Fibromyalgia, and a tick bite that caused Lyme and Alpha-gal Syndrome. I was taking multiple medications I have now been able to discontinue. I have cut pain meds in half. Carmela never gives up! I have never been cared for as much and as completely as with Carmela. She is always learning new techniques and ways to help her patients. I am very blessed to be a patient of Carmela Mager. With her knowledge, she has a lot to work with, and she always knows just what I need. Carol read more

Cholena is a magician! I get on her table in a variety of pain and voila (almost) I arise in comfort and ease. I've known her for 25+ years and this is always the case. The Center's atmosphere is calming and healing and even though I don't get treatment from Carmela, she is joy and peace personified. Hannah, at the front desk, is kind, respectful and efficient. I could not more highly recommend The Acupuncture Healing Center. read more

Ever since my obstetrician recommended a chiropractor for me 30+ years ago, I've been more open to non-Western ways of treating ailments. Comparing Western and non-Western, no one has looked at me more holistically than the practitioners at Acupuncture Healing Center. They have healing hands when they touch me, and are amazing at what they can diagnose. My husband was finally convinced when he was asked at one of his treatments if he had a urinary tract infection--he said no. One or 2 days later he developed a urinary tract infection, went to the doctor for antibiotics. He was absolutely amazed that that it was diagnosed before he had symptoms, and became a convert to Acupuncture, in particular Acupuncture Healing Center! They are starting a new treatment for facials that sounds fantastic. I am sure there are other great acupuncture centers though I am biased--can any be as good as this one? read more

Carmela is an incredibly gifted healer. I came to her 3 months ago barely able to eat any foods - I had Lyme Disease and RMSF twice in the past, Bartonella just recently, and ALPHA-GAL (red meat allergy + dairy too for me) to boot. Carmela began with individual NAET allergy treatments to desensitize me to basic foods again, and I was among her first patients to receive the SAAT treatment for ALPHA-GAL and Mast Cell Activation. It has been life-changing - I can eat almost anything now, and the sudden inflammation that forced me to give up my life-long hobby of running is now much improved as well. I am forever grateful for Carmela's treatments!! read more

This summer marks twenty years since I began seeing Carmela. I was interested in NAET (naet.com) to relieve my allergy to wheat and she was the first practitioner in my area using this technique. I had not eaten wheat in eight years because it caused sinus infections and headaches. In just a few visits I was able to eat wheat without reacting. Later that year I was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. Carmela supported me with acupuncture and EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) before and after surgery so that I was unafraid and I healed quickly. Since then I have seen Carmela for a variety of aches and pains - both physical and emotional. She has given me consistent care and support. She has a deep wealth of available modalities for healing and the intuition and heart to use them well. Two years ago I developed MdDS (mddsfoundation.org) from a cross country train trip. I ran to Carmela for help with the disequilibrium and brain fog and she quickly committed to assist me in finding wholeness. She was eager to excavate the issues, apply her practice and intuition, and follow my recovery with caring concern. I'm happy to report that MdDS no longer controls my day. Thank you, Carmela. I turn to Carmela for professional treatment as well as loving support. Her office is a haven for me and I recommend her to you, whatever your need. read more

I HIGHLY recommend coming here for anyone that struggles with menstrual symptoms!!! I was having severe menstrual cramps that would last at least a week before my period and would continue for another week during my period. I was basically spending 2 out of every 4 weeks in severe pain. After nearly a year of this I decided to go see Carmela and it has been life changing. The first period I had after seeing her, I only had cramps for 2-3 days. Not only that but I didn't have as heavy of bleeding and it only lasted 3-4 days instead of 7, and the rest of my menstrual symptoms have only continued to get better from there. My periods are so much easier to handle now and I don't dread the next one the way I used to anymore! read more

I have had severe neck, back and arm pain for over a year from falling off a horse. I was getting ready to go to a neurologist when a friend recommended Carmella. At the first visit she relieved much of my pain. After just 4 visits she has completely cured my pain. It is really remarkable what she can do. It has truly been life changing. read more

I started here as a skeptic with an open mind - acupuncture was new to me. I signed up for an appointment with Carmela based on a recommendation and within the first session she was able to relieve a pain that multiple doctors have left unanswered. Carmela does a wonderful job listening to your symptoms, asking the right questions, and pulling the whole picture together. It is clear from the start that she truly cares about her patients. I am very pleased with the improvements to my health over the course of my sessions. Also, the center itself is a peaceful and relaxing environment. I can't recommend it highly enough! read more

I first learned about Carmela because a friend of mine was singing her praises. I literally watched my friend regain her quality of life back because of the acupuncture work Carmela did. Seeing that change, I decided to give Carmela a try to have her work with me on reducing my stress levels. I'm glad I did because not only has her work allowed me to reduce my stress, Carmela has also helped relieve my allergy issues, the pain in my knee from a torn meniscus and just recently she has helped relieve the pain of my sprained ankle. What I love about Carmela is that she listens and remembers what's going on with you and is able to target her treatments to exactly what you need. I would much rather do this then take a bunch of drugs any day! She is worth the wait to get in to see her and you won't regret being her patient. read more

outstanding!! Andrew is a master of relaxaction. every time I go there he makes me feel terrific - completely relaxed and mentally cleansed. I urge anyone who needs/wants this treatment to book an appointment immediately, if not, sooner! lucky to have him as part of my treatment for my back and both shoulders. I went to him on a v.a consultation basis - so glad I did - the rooms are really wonderful for getting his magic to work. more stars than 5! read more

I feel so fortunate to be a patient of Carmela's. She is incredibly smart, intuitive, compassionate and effective. I get significantly fewer migraine headaches since I've started seeing her (from 7-8 migraines a month to maybe 1 now) and she cured my severe sinus/chest infections with acupuncture and cupping without a single antibiotic. If my health is good and I don't "need" an appointment, the time spent with her is restorative and relaxing. It's my favorite hour of the week! read more

Thank you to Carmela. I have been holding on to pain in unhealthy ways and her keen senses honed in on the problem. The pain I have experienced physical and emotionally are directly correlated to my past and Carmela was helpful to see it and suggested both dietary additions and also acupuncture. After the initial consult it is apparent that with her help, I can be on a road to healing and hopefully transition to feeling more relaxed, pain free, and alive! read more

I can't begin to express my appreciation and gratitude for Andrew and the Acupuncture Healing Center. I've been seeing Andrew for the last 4 years off and on to maintain several health conditions and it's because of his knowledge and skill that I'm able to function the way that I can today. He is so kind and his healing energy is just infectious. I live in Cary, but I travel to Chapel Hill for treatment because once you find an amazing acupuncturist like Andrew and the healing center, it's impossible to go to anyone else. Thank you for all you guys do! read more

I am a professional business woman & mother who lives in Chapel Hill. I manage a health management program that focuses on wellness, disease management & patient self advocacy including that they have strong working relationships with their providers. I am in need of therapies to help with plantar fasciitis that has not responded to traditional therapy in order to avoid surgery. I called nearly a month ago &scheduled a new patient appointment at Carmela's earliest available time. I called the week prior to my appointment to inquire whether there were any cancellations so I could be seen earlier; there were not so I was eager for my appointment this Thursday. Monday afternoon I received a voicemail from Hannah- an "appointment reminder" requesting I call to confirm. I am traveling on business & knew I would not be able to return the call until after 3pm Tuesday. I felt this would be reasonable & that my appointment would certainly not be at risk. Tuesday afternoon when my last meeting ended at 3 I checked my voicemails prior to calling & had received 2 additional messages - The 1st at 11:30 am from Hannah urgently requesting my confirmation call & the 2nd, from Carmela, my would be acupuncturist, at 2:30 pm stating "I have called you many times & I do not know why you won't return our call but if you do not confirm todday I will cancel your appointment." I was astonished that I was being threatened by this place of healing. It has not yet been a full business day since the first of 3 calls I have received demanding I call back to confirm my already scheduled & confirmed appointment. I would tell any of the participants in my health management program to communicate their feelings to their provider if one of them told me this was their situation. So, I call at 3:05 on Tuesday (24 hours or 1 business day from the first "appointment reminder" call) & speak with Hannah. I explain why I have not been available & state that I did intend to come & was eager about working with Carmela. I said I felt their demand of a return call in a short timeframe or else was unfair, especially when I had given no indication of ambiguity about my first appointment but rather the opposite. She interrupted me & passed the phone to Carmela. I verbalized again my schedule over the last 24 hours & my expectations that I not be cancelled or threatened should I not be available to return their call in a short turn around time. I stated that I very much was wanting to keep my appointment & did not appreciate being accused otherwise. She stated, not, "I am so sorry, that was not our intention" but rather "I need to confirm bc I have other clients with emergencies & what am I supposed to do, work another day?" (My thought: yes, if you want to treat them & they do not have a scheduled appointment. Or, refer them to one of your partners, or extend your work day by an hour, or fit them in if you have a cancellation, or perhaps stop taking new clients. I certainly do not think you should threaten new clients who waited patiently for 5 weeks while also in urgent pain for you to have availability & make them feel that you do not have time for them & that we are adding to your problems). My response to Carmela, "Go ahead & treat that patient, I will find a different provider because I do not deserve to be treated this way." I suggest you seek a different provider too, because just like I tell my program participants - it is essential that you have a respectful working relationship with your provider & it is clear to me that if Carmela is comfortable treating new patients this way & making this type of first impression she is not the type of provider I want & I can guarantee there are kinder, more respectful & professional providers available to us, so take your health needs elsewhere. read more
