I booked a "Therapeutic Table Massage" with Shannon Trudeau and had a very traumatic experience…read more When I arrived I explained to her I like firm pressure and was having issues with my shoulders and neck and upper back being very tight and I would like to primarily focus on those areas. The first 30 minutes of my massage were her guiding some sort of yoga nidra exercise with no actual massaging. I had to ask her when the massage would actually start. She seemed to have a huge ego about the request and continued her guided exercise. Once she did start "massaging" me, it was just her placing her hands on my body very lightly and doing static holds on trigger points. I explained to her I would Like more muscle stimulation in the form of a faster deeper massage but she didn't listen to my requests and kept doing the things she was doing that I did not ask for. She didn't pay attention tho the specific areas that I came in to address and spent most of the time on my arms and legs. She talked the majority of the massage and kept instructing me to take deep breaths. I do not come in to this for a therapy session which is what it felt like. The table was cold and so was the room. I had to ask her to turn the heat on the table mid session because I was freezing and her hands were freezing. She did not seem to have any knowledge of anatomy, massage, or draping. After the session was over she sat me down and wanted to go over her "findings" and it felt really uncomfortable having someone tell me all the areas in my body she noticed I was tight but not actually using the time I paid for to resolve any of those issues. I did not book a trigger point massage, a reiki session, or a therapy session. I mentioned to her multiple times I was not wanting the type of "massage" she gave me and she said that "energetically we may not be a good fit" - in my option this is such a rude thing to say to someone who was very clear about the massage I wanted to receive and requested it multiple times only to be completely ignored - probably because this person is not educated enough or capable of doing actual massage. This practitioner is borderline harmful and should not be practicing any healing modality. I felt disgusting after leaving her session. I felt completely ignored and judged. I debated weather or not I should leave this review but after experiencing this I wanted other people to know the potential harms of booking with this practitioner. Please remove her from "therapeutic table massage" because she didn't actually massage me and this is really misleading for customers.

She is so knowledgeable as a practitioner of Chinese Medicine - whether it's acupuncture, herbs, moxa, she knows each application and how to find a solution to whatever ails your body, inside or out. Chinese Medicine can be unfamiliar to some, but Abby makes her patients feel informed and comfortable with any procedure. Perhaps the best thing about working with Abby and Acupuncture & Apothecary is that she genuinely cares about sharing her practice with all - and has very creative ways to make treatment affordable and accessible, through avenues like her community room. If you are lucky enough to work WITH Abby, she is smart, hilarious and so kind. If you are lucky to be treated BY Abby, let's just say your body will thank you no matter if you visit to deal with pain, addiction, or just overall wellness. I personally recommend: fire-cupping, moxa (especially if you're not a needle fan), and Tibetan foot soaks.

Both treatments I got were focused, smart, and helped the back pain I've been having. I'm looking forward to more treatments from Abby. I checked out the foot bath with a friend. SO GOOD! We sat in special heated massage chairs, Abby served us tea, and prepared the foot baths. It was relaxing and my feet felt tingly and soft afterwards. I will definitely be back and I'm already sending my friends to her website to reserve this special healing treatment.

(Sigh...) I needed…read morehelp. I *love* to walk/hike/stroll/ambulate, but my knees have been saying "No more!" (...and barely in my '60's, I'm WAY too young for that!) Chiropractic didn't work. Arch supports merely relocated the pain. Western medicine? Please. No. It looked as if I was going to need a visit to an orthopedist... ...until my wife suggested I try acupuncture first. (Disclaimer: I'd never had acupuncture - didn't believe it could work. Thought it was malarkey. Saw my uncle's "Smoking cessation" visits fail miserably in New Jersey.) That said, the idea of surgery didn't appeal to me at all, so I thought I'd give acupuncture a shot. All of the Yelp reviews for Dr. Chen were over the top. ...every one was 5 stars. What's more, they all claimed significant results in just ONE treatment. (No way, I continued to think...) I went with some trepidation, and absolutely NO confidence that it could work. ...and here I am, giving Dr. Chen 5 stars. (...and I don't give that 5th star easily!) I showed up on a Friday afternoon, after another week on my feet (teaching 6th grade). I hurt! When he met me in the waiting room, he invited me to follow him to his treatment room. He walked briskly (like I used to.) I could not keep up. After a fairly thorough work-up (did I mention he also practiced Western medicine for more than 30 years?), he had me hop up on the table and plugged the needles in. Three on the left, one on the right. A little discomfort, but that was all. He connected a little electricity, adjusted the feed, and asked if I wanted some soothing sounds (Yes please, thank you...). He gave me a button to push if I needed him, turned down the lights and left me... for about an hour. By the time he got back, the sun had set - and truthfully, I'd begun to wonder if he'd forgotten me and gone home!) After unplugging me and taking the needles out, I stepped out into the hall... where he met me, and ushered me (again at that brisk pace) to his desk. This time I could keep up! On Saturday and again on MLK Monday, I got to go to the gym for the first time in almost 18 months. No pain, no worries! On Tuesday i started to feel the very beginning of an ache, but that afternoon I had my follow-up visit with him, and this time was only connected for 30 minutes. (I remained pain-free throughout this week, and have worked out twice since.) At the end of that 2nd visit, Dr. Chen said he thought I was good to go, and didn't need another appointment. ...and so to the Yelpers that preceded me here - Greg F., Jennifer S., and Veronica S. - I'm sorry I doubted you! Dr. Chen really IS the real deal!

Dr. Chen is fantastic! He listened to what was ailing me and treated. In 1 visit, my back felt…read morebetter than it has in years. I'll definitely go back.
