OH GOD MY LEGS. Kaya…read morehas been kicking my ass for the past month and this is the only sentence I can utter after one of their killer pilates reformer classes. Kaya is part of that new breed of gym where you really feel like you should be dressed up when you go in - it's just that beautiful. Hardwood floors, geometric architecture, you could confuse this gym with a trendy new Northside cafe. I am addicted to their pilates reformer classes. They are touch but achievable and you honestly feel stronger the next day. They also host Barre classes, boxing classes and a variety of different yoga classes in temperature controlled rooms. One of the coolest things about Kaya (at least in my eyes) is the electronic lockers. At my last gym, I was given a beaten-up key to a grotty locker, but here the lockers are ready for you to input your very own 4-number code. Easy. Simple. Secure. If you work/live in the city and are looking for a decent gym, look no further.

Looking for a space to get your health kick on? Look no further then Kaya. With their range of…read moreclasses, people pop in and out straight from work and the daily grind, and into workout clothes for a session to get themselves back in order. Its a health club. You wouldn't come here for the gym, even though they have what you need here. But the classes? Oh yes. You may look into some of the rooms and think to yourself, what the heck are these machines? Why that is Reformer Pilates. Get on one and find out for yourself, cause it'll be your new friend. This session made me remember that I had a core. Who knew? And after those 45 minutes of intense not expecting to get sweaty -but I did, I was most definitely sore the next day. And I loved that. Yoga has always been my go-to. Nidra yoga with Ashleigh here is something everyone should do to get in touch with your inner peace. Its so soothing, almost like a grown up nap time. But it's so so much better than that, like mind out of body stuff. Plus, it's much more rewarding. Yin and meditation was with Derek; yin yoga really focuses on getting to know one pose and learning what is comfortable for you. Being someone who normally does vinyasa, yin is calming, and it's good to stretch yourself in one pose. I walked out feeling like a pigeon pose champ. The barre class. Holy cow, for anyone looking for that dancer-type body, this one's for you. I had zero idea of what I signed up for, except for Google pictures and making up some concept in my mind. The Monday night session with Kirby kicked my butt, well my legs actually. It was so different from what I imagined it'd be like, and a lot more strenuous. I was that person taking little intermittent breaks just to compose myself. Yep, not ashamed, I just was not used to that intensity in a workout. For days following this, my legs felt like straight up jello. Kirby was great, she was extremely motivating and fun, and mixes it up. Matt, the Membership Advisor, is a sweetheart and the perfect go-to person for enquiries and help. I mean, everyone is nice and friendly at Kaya, but Matt was welcoming as well. The location is ideal, convenient for any city folk as it's the top of the emporium and it feels like a sanctuary sitting up there. What better way to sweat yourself back into shape then on top of a mall?

Where's the 0 star rating option?…read more My partner and I signed up for a 7 day free trail online to test out this gym. Upon arrival we were greeted by 2 staff members. We proceeded to tell them we were there for our 7 day free trail which we had singed up for. They asked if we were "local" (assuming our accents let them know we weren't? Not sure). We said we were, but we were moving to Brunswick in the next week, but we still wanted to try out this gym. I guess this set off some alarms for them because they then told us we would have to pay $30 for our entry. Not sure why that would be the case, as there are Goodlifes all over the city, but okay. We then looked at each other to chat to see if we were just going to leave then - but the staff member said she would get Max to help us out. Max came out with a laptop and took us through a questionnaire which had some very odd questions like "do you friends and family support your fitness journey". Max was off putting af. He then took us on a tour of the gym and repeated 3 times how he hates when people come in and start lifting heavy without warming up. Max knew at this point that my partner and I have both been working out for a while, as per the survey before. Max then took us through the membership prices and levels. He asked us if we wanted to sign up, and we said no because we would like to used our 7 day free trail before we decided. He then got weird, asked us for a piece of ID to hold onto (we didn't bring any, so we gave him my credit card), and let us go into the gym. We worked out for 30 minutes or so. Gym was okay.

The relationship between myself and Goodlife was a little rocky to begin with. New gym, new set up,…read morenew staff but I will admit that from the moment we walked into Goodlife we were treated well. Firstly we were leaving another gym to come here simply as the hours at the previous didn't suit my shift working life. Problem solved Goodlife Prahran is 24/7. We were given full access to all Goodlife health clubs in Victoria, some of which have pool spa and sauna facilities & 3 sessions with a personal trainer. The cherry on top of this sweet deal was the first 3 months free. Goodlife Prahran has everything: -a massive weight area -a extensive group class time table -ample trainers available if you want to invest a little more in your technique and motivation -boxing area -female only room I used my 3 personal training sessions as I felt a Little daunted with the new environment & equipment and since then I haven't looked back. I'm loving Goodlife now. Centrally located above Rebel Sport on chapel street. If your looking to trial Goodlife there are plenty of options out there. I beloved they offer a free 5 day trial. Goodlife has been a great change and I encourage everyone to take a look.

DIRTY GYM WITH MANAGEMENT WHO CANT BE TRUSTED WITH YOUR BANK DETAILS…read more Nobody reads long reviews so here are the headlines. Dead mice on the gym floor. Used syringes in the men's toilets. Dog sh*t and p*ss on the floor the classes are meant to roll around on. Management who will continue to charge you for a membership you cancelled within their terms and ignore you when they realise they got away with it. I actually liked this gym when I joined, the place was cool, nice atmosphere, a good change if your bored of the average chain gym. BUT the place is just dirty. I was there for less than 6 months and I seen so many dogs sh*t and p*ss on the floor in the middle of the gym, yeah the green strip where everyone is to roll about. Sure they spray it with some kind of cleaner but I still wouldn't be down there! I found a dead mouse on the gym floor and thought I would be nice enough to tell the management about it before anyone else seen it, she thought it was hilarious there was a dead animal in her gym.... I only every used the upstairs toilet twice and one of the times there was a used syringe in the cubical, its difficult to stop drug use in a gym but this wasn't even subtle, clearly the toilets don't get checked regularly. Now in a time that cleanliness is more important that ever due to coronavirus I would not be stepping foot in this gym! If they cant even keep dead animals and needles out how can you expect them to keep an invisible virus out. I let these things slide when I was training there but once I left (with 30 days' notice) they continued to charge both me and my girlfriend for our memberships. We emailed them with attachments of the payments and the notice of cancellation and got a response the same day, Wendy acknowledged this should not have happened and she would refund the money that day... that was over a month ago. One of the personal trainers actually warned us this would happen, when we mentioned to him that we were only there for 6 months he told us to make sure we cancel with 30 days' notice because management are good are good at forgetting to cancel the direct debit. We emailed again after 3 week and one of the staff Montana replied on the same day again acknowledging this was wrong and she would raise it with management that day, no response from Wendy again. Last email I sent was letting them know that if there was no response or plan to return the money by 30/04/2020 I would accept that they have no intention of returning the money. Here we are 07/05/2020 and my inbox is as empty as my bank account. Wendy you have our bank details, do the right thing.

Extensive work has been taken out on the building and the Sea Baths now contain two restaurants, day spa, pools, gym and health club. As far as pools and gyms go, I don't think there's any positioned better in the world. From both area's you get the most amazing panoramic views of Port Phillip Bay. I'm not much for working out, but I know from experience there is nothing better than lazing back in the massive, heated spa in the pool room, the spa being about two metres from the floor to ceiling windows that look straight out on to the ocean. We were in St Kilda for my husband's birthday and it rained all weekend constantly. Wanting to still enjoy the beach, there was no better way than to soak in that spa and watch as the storm clouds and rain swept in from the horizon. It was a seriously tranquil experience. Both the gym and day spa have won numerous industry awards and it's not just for the views, location or facilities. All of Melbourne's best beauty therapists and personal trainers vie for positions at the Sea Baths so you're bound to get the results you want. The only downside is if you want to live the life of a bay side suburbian, you'd better have the cash to go with it because the beauty, professionalism, tranquility, facilities and bubbles come at quite a cost. Not a place I can afford to go often but worth every bit of pampering when I've got the time and finances to go.

This... with restaurants and bars flanking it from all sides, the beach directly in front, and the most gorgeous views of the Bay? Just an amazing facility, with an indoor salted seawater full size lap pool, and a very elongated chill and relax spa for just 'being'. A few chairs for stretching out in that salty, humid environment to people watch the esplanade there. Showers at the pool level, in case one is coming in off the beach, to rid all sand. Upstairs are the gym facilities and proper equipment. I have an inside know of the fees for the monthly membership, and it's just hard to rationalize plonking that kind of coin down for something, that ultimately, is for sweating and working out. Still, it is a beauty, this health club bedecked with all finer things. Just look for the domed Santorini-like white building along front in Catani Gardens. Unless you've got a zoned parking permit, I also wish you well on the parking. That can definitely make you want to climb the walls and get your runners on!
