Having received a "no obligation" free visitor pass from a friend, I went with her to Fitness First Collins Street for a yoga class. The gym was really nice, and the place clearly runs like a well-oiled ship. The yoga class was also one of the better ones that I've done through a gym. I had a brief moment of thinking "Hmmm...Maybe I should just fork out the $20 a week and join?"
However, as soon as I went to leave the gym, I was accosted by a staff member who asked me to fill out a form about what I would be looking for in a gym if I did decide to join one. I was suspicious, but filled out the form to be nice - I mean, they had given me a freebie! Next, the gym rep basically corners me and gives me the most intense hard sell I've ever had. He went through my list of personal health and fitness goals and started saying things like: "Oh, I see you'd like to gain some weight? Don't worry...We'll make a plan so you look good naked!" He was so intense. Then he started saying things like: "Now, we're not supposed to do this, but, just for you... we'll take $X off the signup fee, but you have to decide in the next 10 minutes."
I literally waited until he wasn't watching and snuck out the door. Seriously, never believe "obligation free" with these people!
4 stars for gym amenities, minus 1 star for my dealings with this guy! read more
