Had my first appt with Dr. Godiwalla so this is based on 1st visit consult only. I was apprehensive at first, as at Alpine location I wasn't happy at all with service of incorrect eye assessment. Dr.Godiwalla, located in Lajolla is a very soft spoken, caring and kind Dr. She LISTENS. She LOOKS AT you. Ok, now, ...Read that again. She discussed treatment options, and put my mind at ease. I was being assessed for cateracts. I have pre op in Dec. and surgery after the New Year. Again, my consult went much better than I expected and I feel so much more optimistic. My tech ( I hope not underplaying her title or importance) was kind, friendly and filled room with great vibes. In conclusion, Upon checking out John (his name I believe) was so polite and friendly. Really nice young man! The team I had I'd have to give a 5+ for 1st initial visit and would highly recommend Dr. Godiwalla and her staff. read more

Very disappointing experience at Acuity Eye Group La Jolla (9850 Genesee Ave). Before purchasing glasses, I specifically called the clinic and was told that my insurance would cover them. I relied on that information when I proceeded with the purchase. However, I was not given an itemized cost breakdown or a clear explanation of the lens options and additional charges before payment. I only saw that my insurance coverage was listed as "None" after the payment was processed. Most frustratingly, I contacted the clinic the same day, July 10, to cancel the order. Instead of resolving the issue, I was repeatedly told to wait and was passed between staff. The glasses were eventually made despite my cancellation request, and I have never picked them up. Since then, I have made multiple attempts to contact the clinic, but have not received a meaningful response or resolution. I even contacted Blue Shield regarding the matter, and they also attempted to reach the clinic without success. I'm sharing this experience so other consumers can be very careful: confirm your insurance coverage directly, ask for a complete itemized price breakdown before paying, and make sure any cancellation request is properly documented and acknowledged. read more

I went there as a first time patient yesterday, and it was poor. I had a 3:30 appointment and when I got there the waiting room was packed. Many people had been waiting a long time to be seen and many were complaining. I was checked in and had a pre-screen for about 10 minutes, but was otherwise waiting in the waiting room for 3 hours before I had to leave. Around 5pm, almost the entire support staff left for the day, so I was left with one other guy waiting alone in the room with no one to answer questions or to assist. The other guy said he's been coming here for many years and it's always about a 2 hour wait. That doesn't work for me, unfortunately, so I won't be going back. Check all the the bad reviews here before scheduling with them. read more

A month after my 1st cataract op I contracted an infection within eyeball and lost my sight. Immediate action was taken & corrected by Dr Hudson. I believe the fault of Dr Binder who did original op since there was debris left behind. I was told I had 50/50 chance to get vision back. 5 weeks after my 2nd eye cataract removal, I have blurred vision & 100's of floaters. After seeing Dr Hudson, his response was continue with the drops and come back in 6 weeks. Due to uneasy feel and glare, I have my eye closed 80% of the time. It's not right! I am seeking a 2nd opinion but dr's are weeks to months out for appointments. Dr Godiwalla how did the 2nd op was wonderful throughout the process, but it doesn't help my sight. I requested a standard lens for reading glasses only. I believe whatever happens it will be bi-focals. Hudson did not seem to care when I said that I am extremely disappointed in the outcome of both eyes. read more

This review is for Dr. Perry, he gets the whole 5 stars! He's been my mom's eye Dr for over 20 years! He's an amazing ophthalmologist! He genuinely cares for his patients, explains everything thoroughly. As far as front office experience, I'll give them zero stars!! The office people are always rude and unprofessional. I've experienced it and I've seen it how the front office acts with patients! Other than that my mom is willing to put up with this issue just to see Dr. Perry! read more

Horrible customer service. For the last 8 days , I was trying to call their office. They don't answer any calls. It keeps transferred to call center ( most likely outside the U.S. even call center can't reach the eye center office. Very disorganized and understaffed. They numbed my eye before Dr. Reviewing the results of eye pictures. No shot needed and there was no need for numbing!!! read more

My bf had cataract surgery last year at a young age- early 30s. Bc he needed it at such a young age, Dr. Godiwalla was in charge of his case. She informed him that his early cataract may be due to his mom's prednisone usage when he was in utero. My bf was very worried about the surgery and its implications. Dr. Godiwalla has excellent bedside manner and assuaged his fears and anxieties. Her explanations were clear and informed, which helped him feel better as well. She was amazing during diagnosis phase, surgery, and post op follow up. Very talented all around. I enjoyed reading about her past career in the military. Explains why she is so bright, experienced, calm, and collected. We feel lucky that he was under her care. Highly recommend Dr. Godiwalla to all patients. read more

I recently had an appointment with Dr. Perry for a DCR procedure, the appointment was cancelled without a reasonable time frame notice, when I arrive to the clinic, the office staff was very unpleasant, terrible service, ridiculous behavior telling me that they were waiting for the insurance confirmation when they have NEVER submitted the request on the first place. I called the insurance, and they said never received anything from Acuity Eye Group. This place is very disorganized, they don't care about their patients. Rocio M Gonzalez read more

Joining the chorus of negative reviews for Acuity. Let's face it, most Medical "groups" are impersonal and lack empathy for their patients. Then again, there are no "Patients" here, only "Billable Resources". I'm actually more angry with my insurance provider for only putting shithole medical groups like this in my list of covered providers. The issue here isn't with the actual ophthalmologist, it's mostly the vapid admin that works up front. It's not worth your time to engage with this person because they know absolutely nothing about whatever they're taking about. I don't know if this person is a pathological liar or what. The last straw was when we asked about parking validation. She confidently said yes, just talk to the guy in the parking building. Of course that was another lie and they don't validate but they will let you park for free if you have a handicap placard as a courtesy.. * Your scheduled appointment will be at least an hour late because of patient overbooking. That will be for every appointment you ever make with this Acuity location. * No apology or "heads up" that they're running late. Based on other reviews this behavior has been going on for years. * Highly recommend to grab their free peppermint candies at the check-out desk.. read more

Everything! The only reason I go there is because I have been treated for glaucoma for many years by the best, Dr. Coden Trying to call for appointments, refills or really anything is impossible. The call center has no idea what is going on in the office. They tell you they will leave a message for the office staff to call back and they NEVER call back. They supposedly try to contact the office and they tell me that the office is not answering!! After that, they give me the office number, and if I have any patience left, I call the office and their voice mail is full! Never in my career working for eye doctors, would staff not answer the phone or have a full mailbox!!!! Then the call center tries to tell me that the office is closed for lunch!!! Again, this office never closed for lunch and they still don't. I needed to get my 93 year old mother an appointment with the retina doctor for a very crucial injection. She has to have this once a month. Again, after trying for several hours to reach the office, I drove there and went into the office to make her appointment !!! I had to DRIVE there to be able to make an appointment!!! If not for the 2 doctors who we see, I would never set foot in the office again. Can you imagine an elderly patient trying to get through?? My mother tried and became frustrated and I am sure she is not the only one! Acuity Eye group has ruined this practice. And lastly, their front office personnel is completely different every time I go, which is every 4 months. And each turnover of staff is worse than the next. I know 2 back office techs and they are excellent. What a disaster this place has become... if you are thinking about going there, DON'T. read more

Horrible and disorganized. I was referred to get a skin cancer biopsy. I arrived to the Encinitas location and waited an hour. Once in the exam room the doctor came in who was a GLAUCOMA specialist. Obviously I left and tried calling three times to get another appointment and no return calls. I ended up going elsewhere. Unfortunately, I gave them another chance and went to their LJ office for an exam regarding a retina "issue." Exam was ok and follow up just last month. I decided to schedule a "floater" surgery and Ashley, the surgery coordinator, assured me my insurance covered it all. ONE AND A HALF DAYS before the surgery she called to say my insurance "eligibility is inactive on her portal" but I can go forward with the surgery if I want to pay out of pocket!!! I absolutely have insurance but she refused to call my insurance to confirm. She said if I wanted my insurance to cover, I had to call them. Huh? I did so and as expected, my insurance told me I was covered, my APP showed I was current and covered, and the nice insurance guy tried 6 times while I was on the phone trying to reach ANYONE at Acuity. Not even his responsibility. It was Acuity's to call them. I called Acuity back and "John" told me there were no supervisors who could fix the insurance issue. So now I am having to wait just the day before if they can rectify THEIR portal issues; keep my friends waiting to be informed whether they are taking me to/from and of course my three days lost from work!!! No one knows what is going on in those offices! Is anyone in charge? read more

This is probably the worst care I have ever received from a doctors office. They are completely unorganized in their system and never know where their doctors are. My mother came in twice to be seen and was told the doctor was either in surgery or wasn't in office.... As when I came in personally, I waited over two hours for my appointment. Then the woman doing my eye exam was not even qualified to do the testing and told me she was being trained. I have never in my life been so shocked by how unorganized and unprofessional an eye examination has been. You are better off paying out of pocket ANYWHERE ELSE. I don't know why these people have such terrible reviews and don't change anything. DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Acuity sucks! I came in for my appointment with Dr. Perry today and after waiting 30+ minutes to get in the exam room, the technician told me that I would not be getting a prescription for glasses today and that I would need to come back to see their optometrist for that, and "did I know that". I told her the reason for my visit was to get a new prescription and that I did not want to come back and have to pay for another visit. I then walked out. The office sucks. They should have told me that when I booked the appointment. Waisted a hour of my time, the parking fee, and 40 minutes in traffic getting home. I have been seeing Dr. Perry for 20+ years and have been very happy with his care. The office is the worst that I have encountered. Yelp needs to have an option for 0 stars. Note to Dr. Perry, retire or find a new office to work in. read more

Please avoid going here. My doctor was good but their staff member in charge of glasses and contacts is unprofessional and has no clue what she is doing. I went to get my contacts. I even told the lady I am down to my last pair. The lady told me she would call the next day to go over the price because she could not verify my insurance, which is odd, considering they had no problem doing so for my exam. It has been two weeks. I have been calling, leaving messages and nobody has returned my calls. Their office manager really needs to deal with this issue. So many bad reviews. Please do something! read more

Let me first say I am rating the stars as just okay regarding the way the office staff is and the whole process with the appointment. Dr. Perry has been our Dr. for many many years way before it became this group. He is the only reason I still come and endure the stress of first trying to get a person on the phone! It is absolutely ridiculous and it goes to leave a message which then says the mailbox is full or if it's your lucky day you leave a message and nobody calls you back and then you're right back to where you were before! I was there for my visit about 2 wks. ago and as a regular for a pressure check I was shocked when I walked in and saw they had put in new chairs. The reason I was so shocked was it was like walking into a cramped movie theater with hardly any room to walk into the row. What has happened to keeping some kind of social distancing for health reasons not to mention personal space instead of being on top of each other. It's all about getting more people in for more money! People were coughing, sneezing and myself ended up sick. Of course taking a 8:30 appt. means nothing because there are at least 4 patients with the Dr. scheduled at the same time. The staff that greats you is never the same, nor friendly. Once you see the Dr. you are sent out to wait some more and now besides being packed people are standing near the glasses. I will never sit in there again and my husband who brought me had lung cancer with only half of one lung and it is like a germ fest. I did not see tissues or hand sanitizer anywhere in that front office area. Dr. Perry is an amazing person and Dr. and totally cares about his patients. It is a disrespect to him who is the best to have patients subjected to the crap your company sets this office like. Believe me if I didn't have to go back I wouldn't. As a nurse you are not thinking about the care of your patients, just how many patients you can cram in there! read more

Went in for my appointment last week and was told it was a 2 hour long wait. I was quite frustrated upon hearing this but once I actually made it to the exam rooms, the young nurse working me up was a little ball of light. She was definitely new because I had not seen her before. She was so sweet and smiley, it was honestly hard to be upset around her. The first thing she says to me was "Good morning Sunshine!" with a huge smile on her face, instantly making me laugh. She asked me about my family and what I did over the weekend, making small talk all while getting her work done. The gesture definitely improved my mood by the time I saw Dr. Perry. This new staff Acuity hired is really stepping up and changing the game. Keep up the good work girls! read more

This eye center just laid off all their great staff due to cutting costs. Good luck k with your wait time now.

Very happy with my exam appointment at this office. Mae Ann was SO friendly and explained everything. Dr Pratt was very thorough and put my mind at ease regarding my recent accident and eye trauma. I've been seeing someone in this practice (Formerly Perry/Pratt/Coden/Copeland) for over three decades. They recently sold out to a low-rent group called Acuity. All the good doctors left and the office staff are totally incompetent across the board. Acuity hires cheap labor and doesn't train them properly and their reviews show the result. So after 30+ years, I'll be trusting someone else with my eye care from now on. Good work, Acuity. read more

Dr Pratt has changed my mother's life by prescribing a combination of natural remedies and medication to heal her eyes. I really like Dr Coden but the office is so disfunctional and it is impossible to make an appointment or have them even answer the phone. I waited 30 minutes on hold and gave up. The second time I waited 1 hour and 10 minutes only to be told they were at lunch for another 1 1/2 hours. They apparently outsource their calls to a call service in Pasadena. When you do get an appointment, I have had to wait for over an hour to see the doctor. read more

So I stumbled upon here and overall it was a 5 Star visit. Located inside the XIMED building on Scripps campus this is easy to find on the third floor with a parking garage nearby. The inside has a decent sized waiting area and an abundance of glasses to select from. The girl working the front desk was *courteous and gave good service* as I filled out new patient paperwork. Before being seen I then I had to CLEAR up a discrepancy and call my previous eye care facility because they had placed a hold on my benefits (on an appointment that they cancelled?!).. therefore I couldn't be seen without it being fixed/deleted/released which makes sense. The hold on my benefits caused a slight delay, but it wasn't LJLV&EC's bad, it was the other place's fault. Shortly after I met Dr. Mehri Moshtaghi who was *helpful, caring, and sweet*! She answered all of my questions and did my annual eye check-up. My prescription ended up being the same which was good news. I then met with Kat, the optician whom I wanted to review my benefits with. She was genuine and told me I did not need to get new glasses because it's the same exact prescription (even though I expressed interest in getting a new pair). I LIKED how she did not try up-selling me like other places and she was honest and sincere, *wow service*. I then told her I had a pair of glasses that had clear lenses that I wanted to bring in within the next few days to get prescription lenses put in. She gave me a tip to bring it in ASAP to maximize my insurance's benefit. :) Overall, the staff here are smiley, nice, and no hassle at all here. =] read more

Acuity Eye Group - La Jolla - Optometrists Near Me - La Jolla, California

I have been going to this La Jolla ophthalmology group for for several years and I believe the office operation has greatly improved since Teresa R. became Practice Manager back in November 2022. My waiting time is never more than a couple minutes and I'm attended to right away. In addition I have made a couple admin requests to Teresa directly and she handled them personally & quickly. In the past, many commenters have praised the doctors but criticized the office operation. It's good to see the steady progress each time I visit as well as expeditious handling of my requests in-between visits. read more

I really like Dr. Coden and Dr . Pratt. I have been a patient for 30 years. Why they ever changed to Acuity, I can't imagine! Acuity is terrible!! I walked in and a woman was coughing like crazy. The receptionist called me up to give her my paperwork, and I moved to the far side of her desk. She asked me to come nearer, and I told her that I could not because of my concern for Covid and that a unmasked person was coughing. She became really dismissive and incredibly RUDE. So I walked out and they lost my business. Her name was Erika. If anyone can recommend a new ophthalmologist, let me know. read more

I was there last 3 years for regular eye check ups . This year I was very upset as it seems like they are focusing to to sell the reading glasses more than routine eye check up . My eye pressure was hıgher than normal and they didn't even mention it. I figured out today after seeing and sharing the results with my retina specialist in a different office. They didn't want to dilate my eyes at first and they did after I asked them to do.( Last 2 years they did without asking ) I saw the person called Tina but unfortunately she was rushed during our appointment as the office was so crowded. She didn't ask the most of the questions or do check ups that were asked/done last year by Ryan Marr. She was so nice but it seems like the office policy changed a lot in a year ! So many patients came while I was waiting ( around an hour) and ask to schedule their operations to the front desk as they couldn't able to reach office by phone ! Lastly the medication they used for dilate my eyes took more than 8 hours to wear off for the first time in my life . My eyes dilated again today for my retina check up after a week later at a different office and went back to normal in 4 hours with no problem ! I will never ever go there again for routine eye and vision test ! read more

My experience with this office has been one of the worst and most stressful customer service situations I have ever encountered. Zero response to requests for my updated prescription and repeated calls for assistance. I was given a trial for new contact lenses and told to call the doctor to let her know how it went. It took two weeks to get a response and by that time, I had run out of lenses. I have been requesting my updated eyeglass prescription for over a month and still do not have it. I have also witnessed horrible customer service while in the office - elderly patients being told that they have to wait 90 minutes because the doctors are behind schedule is just one example. It's a factory with no individualized care or attention. AVOID AT ALL COSTS read more

Let's just say that if you have about 2-3 hours to waste on time (weekday) come here because that's how long you'll be waiting. Staff doesn't know how to schedule well at this location. The 6 times I've been here I am usually waiting 2-3 hours. So if you have time to waste or don't need to go back to work, this is the place. Doctor turnover here is really quick so you won't be seeing the same doctor next time. Also if you call them to get information on your appointment or have questions good luck, most of the time you have to call minimum of 5 times before someone puts you on hold. Staff is not nice (maybe because they're overworked), eveytime I asked "do you know if they're going to call me soon?". Their response was, "your next" and that never happened. I would avoid this place at all cost. read more
