Find the Doctor to care for your sick child and ensure his/her well being. Oh. Is that all? How in the heck do I ever start to do that? In my case it started with talking with friends and co-workers who have children. As I hunted the elusive prey one name popped up several times, Dr. Kathleen Hutchinson and the folks at Evergreen Pediatrics. It took one phone call and arrange for her to be our Tax Deduction's Doctor. After he came flopping out of The Wife the people at Evergreen were all over making sure he was healthy (unfortunately they couldn't do much about the quaking mass of paranoia that was at the time his new Father). Not just Dr. Hutchinson, but several of the Doctors were involved in his first couple of days on the planet. Since then, through colds, ear infections, sinus infections and one particularly scary incident to us as new parents it's been all Dr. Hutchinson and her nurse, Dorothy. I couldn't say enough about them or recommend them highly enough. Even if you call the emergency number late, she calls fast enough to make your head spin and follows up the next day if you have to see another Doctor. So next time you find yourself knocked up in the 'Couve and need a good Doctor might I suggest this one?

When it was our turn the attending nurse was very blunt and had no real beside manner. The clinician came in literally yelling at us saying we didn't fill out a questionnaire my son was not comfortable disclosing saying he was mandated to do it by law. Which is not true. Then when my son stood his ground and it was clear he upset us. He tried to act goofy and ask personal questions and garner personal plans and information. Then at the end of the visit, he teased my son who is extremely afraid of needles about going to the back and mixing up a shot to give him. Poor judgement and quality of care at this place. Only reason we finished the appointment was to get this OSAA Physical paperwork signed. Not impressed at this location.

But the practice itself isn't caring, don't try to be friendly and has no customer service department. During all those years we've been with the practice maybe once I was able to see Dr Elia for a not-early-scheduled well child visit . Last year I had to cancel the visit last minute and was rescheduled for FOUR months later. I am not complaining about the $50 fee I got billed by mail that I paid immediately but the conversation that followed with the receptionist. She said that Dr Elia was "our busiest doctor" and we had to reschedule for 4 months later! I can't wait for 4 months to get a covid vaccine! Like, is this a joke? Plus, I am happy for him if hi is the "busiest doctor" in the practice, but that doesn't mean that he can't have time for my boys. Pretty poor remark. No doctor should be too busy for their patients. (Eventually we got our boys to get both their vaccines somewhere else) The tip of the iceberg was when I received a collections letter that I owed the practice a value around $300 that had been outstanding for 3 months. I immediately called the collections agency and paid the bill. Now, how come I never received any MAIL, PHONE CALL or EMAIL about it? When I called metropolitan pediatrics they said that I had a "paperless" account - which I don't recall signing up to. As I previously mentioned, when I received the mail about the fee for cancelling, they sent me a mail with the charge. Why have I received a letter for the late cancelation fee but didn't receive a letter for the outstanding balance? Above all, how come they didn't make a quick phone call to inform me of the outstanding bill? Is it more profitable to send bills to collections? Poor customer service. So I finally sent the practice a pretty angry message through mychart about one or two months ago and nobody EVER got back to me. No apologies, not "lets try this again". Nada. Interestingly complaints made on Yelp or Google get answers... I wonder why... Currently looking for a more thoughtful and caring practice.

Our favorite providers (Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey) left. Some staff members can be pretty unhelpful and truly only seem to care about their billing and rules. The other negative reviews are spot on, sadly. (The current exception is Jonathan, a medical assistant in the adult clinic--he's kind, personable, and was excellent with my teen, but alas, he only does the check in/vitals part). They are consistently late--we always wait at least 30 minutes up to an hour most recently for our appointment to begin, and this is in addition to taking kids out of school to be there 15-20 minutes early to check in! They absolutely do not respect a patient's time and offer zero apology. It's maddening. I've messaged different providers for different family members or reasons, and the same person writes back each time, so it's definitely not secure or private in any way. She also types the absolute minimum and doesn't seem to want to help in any way, but if you call, they tell you to message via the portal. They up-charged us for longer or more involved appointments for my kids even though we've only discussed one issue at the short appointment, and when I questioned the billing department, they said they'd immediately remove the charge since I asked about it. Since I asked?! So if people don't notice and question the additional charge, they just get scammed? Appalling. They recently told me the next available check in for a child was in several months. I said our prescription will lapse before then, and they asked if I still wanted to schedule. I had to point out in writing that they need to refill the prescription temporarily so it doesn't lapse if we have to wait for an appointment or else please fit us in for even a video appointment. I had to fight this back and forth and once I said I need to confirm you are refusing to refill a child's necessary medicine prescription and also making her wait for an appointment so the medicine will lapse and it will affect her health immediately--finally then they suddenly had an appointment available in two days (which was a video appointment where we waited almost an hour for them to come online and didn't until I called the office and told them we were online waiting.) The final straw was in taking a teen to discuss a medical issue they were already anxious about, and the provider made a big deal about her weight to the point of hinting that she'll develop an eating disorder (child feels fine about their diet and eats well/healthy) and we left the appointment with teen crying and anxious about a condition they don't even have! We're done with SMC, and I'm so sad. Dr Pritchard and Nancy Casey were amazing women and great resources for our neighborhood, but sadly this place has gone so far downhill since they left that I won't risk my kids' health here anymore.

The staff at Sellwood Medical Clinic showed a lack of empathy and professionalism. Here is a summary of three interactions I had with this clinic. In November 2025, I arrived about 30 minutes early for an appointment and was told to wait until my scheduled time. Once I was taken to the exam room, I waited another hour for the clinician to arrive. At the time, I did not mind because she was thorough and friendly. She recommended that I return for a well-person visit. I had to wait 5 months for a well-person visit appointment. Then, shortly before the appt, it was cancelled. I received an email and voicemail saying the provider had to leave early and that I needed to call to reschedule. When I called back to reschedule, the next available appointment was another month away. My most recent experience, two weeks ago, is the reason I am writing this review. The appointment I had been waiting five months for finally arrived. I completed the online pre-check-in hours in advance, which took more than 20 minutes, and I paid my copay. Because of rain and traffic, I arrived shortly after my scheduled appointment time. The clinic said staff told me I was nine minutes late. I had also paused outside to let an elderly couple enter first, which delayed my check-in by a few minutes. I was refused care and told I would need to reschedule. I explained that I urgently needed the visit and calmly asked whether they could reconsider. I also noted that my previous appointment had been cancelled and that this was the rescheduled date. Attending these appointments requires time away from work. The front desk employee went back again to relay my request. By that point, I was in tears. During this time, two women behind the reception desk were giggling and laughing. I do not know what they were laughing about, but I was visibly upset while they looked my way, talked, and laughed. It felt unsettling and deeply unprofessional. Ultimately, I was not seen. Neither clinic management nor the clinician came out to speak with me. The front desk employee apologized again and said I would have to reschedule. Afterward, I emailed the clinic to ask for more information about their "9-minute policy." I was told in writing that no such formal policy exists. Their response stated: "The 9 minute grace time for being late to an appointment is not a clinic policy, it is the most amount of time we can give for a patient to arrive for the appointment and still be seen." I then had to request they refund my copayment 3 days after this incident. Overall, this experience was highly unprofessional. The clinic delayed my care by cancelling and postponing my appointment, then denied services because I was allegedly nine minutes late. I will not continue trying to receive care at Sellwood. A medical clinic and its staff should treat patients with compassion and empathy, and I experienced neither. I left feeling embarrassed and unsupported. Although it may take time to see another provider, the wait will be worth it. I encourage patients to choose a clinic where they feel heard and supported.

Her first pediatrician was Dr. Audrey Unrau. She's now retired, but she provided excellent care for our little one, and now we find the same level of care and assurance with Dr. Rosborough. We've also come in to see a few other doctors and nurses for issues that needed immediate attention and all are professional, knowledgeable, and kind. It is rare that we experience long wait times, but the very few times we do, we were updated and given options to reschedule or stay. Our kiddo is very shy and doesn't easily warm up to new people and places at first. Both Dr. Unrau and Dr. Rosborough knew how to interact with our little one, making her feel comfortable while carrying on with exams. They're extremely patient and offer excellent advice. I never feel rushed with the list of questions I present them nor do I feel pressured to do anything I don't feel comfortable giving or practicing with my family. I've been able to get my kid in immediately when something like a mysterious rash suddenly pops up. I value the after-hours service too. Care shouldn't be limited to business hours and that's something they recognize. Talking to their nurses after hours has been very helpful in that they provide knowledgeable advice, assurance, and are able to schedule immediate appointments if necessary. The nurses are very patient. When my daughter was a young toddler, she was VERY fearful of the weight scales and height measurement ruler, and I really liked that nurses like Mia (sp?) were very understanding and patient. She told me she wanted to create positive experiences for my kid at the doctor's office, so she didn't want to push it too much with the eye and hearing tests before our exam. She offered other alternatives and offered another time to have it done. The rooms are bright and fun. The waiting room has fun fish tanks that my daughter always remembers and looks forward to seeing. We haven't experienced any rude staff and were never made to feel like we were another patient. We appreciate the level of care here and would recommend this place to others looking for a good care team for their kids. Other things worth mentioning: they have a great team of psychologists for all ages. When we needed some help with behavior regarding tantrums, potty training, and mealtime, Dr. Collin Dean provided very insightful advice to help us understand the developmental changes going on with our toddler. I highly recommend him.
