Enchanted Circle Campground boasts the title "New Mexico's #1 Campground" on their website…read more My family found out why from July 29 - August 2, 2026. It's a bit expensive for dry camping if you have RVs, but it is very peaceful and serene. The stars at night glitter brightly when summer thunderstorms are not passing through. Currently, they have 8 primitive sites. However, here's an update from their website (with no timeline given): "Upcoming Expansion: A new 10-site RV park is set to open next season to accommodate more guests. This is going to be powered by solar power generators, and be completely off the grid, eco-friendly, and as minimally invasive to the land as possible. Each of these sites will feature the same setups as our #1 ranked campsites, but offer 30amp power connections at each site." Amenities: + Fire pits with a shovel + Grills with tools provided + Potable water + Portable toilets available within walking distance + Hammocks (our large site had two) + Trash cans with lids & bungee cords + Large dumpsters + Leashed dogs are allowed... off leash is fine at your campsite If you go for a little hike, just be aware of other people's property lines. And if you see trash on your hike, bring along a little shopping bag or a bucket and help pick it up. There are plenty of deer another wildlife not to mention the farm animals that get to roam in these parts that don't need to be munching on human's debris. If you leave your campsite for a few hours, then be mindful of goats or pigs or whatever wildlife that might get into your things. Don't leave anything out that you don't want torn up. My dad's tarp got bit into. I think it was the owner's goats free-roaming. Lol. The privacy is probably the greatest aspect of this place. There is a gate with a code provided whenever your check-in approaches. It's not in their long list of rules, but I would be courteous and wait for the gate to close before continuing in or out of the grounds. It is also veteran-owned and family-operated. TIP If you are hauling a trailer, I highly advise against traveling north from Ocate on 120. It becomes exceedingly narrow with tons of potholes with no turn around points. Find the route that goes through Cimmaron then south to the campground. It might be an extra half hour, but you won't be squeezing in tight spaces and juggling maneuvers with oncoming traffic. This road was fun in my Jeep though! Works Cited https://enchantedcirclecampground.com/

One of the things that made the trip memorable was staying at Taos Desert Oak. This is an authentic Adobe home was in ruins before it was restored and saved from demolition. It is downtown and walking distance to some great shops and restaurants. It is on a quiet street and blends in perfectly with the New Mexico landscape. On our arrival we opened the refrigerator to find beer, local salsa and chips waiting for us. The hot tub was perfect after a long day of skiing. The whole thing was very comfortable and memorable. Taos Ski Valley deserves an enthusiastic 5-star review, at least from the focus of this review on…read moretheir incredible Youth Ski School. Our 9-year-old son's first skiing experience was nothing short of amazing, thanks to the exceptional staff who provided not only quality instruction but also positive reinforcement throughout. Really nice twenty-something kids who could probably ski in their sleep did an outstanding job supporting every kid... including kids like ours who were strapping on skis for the first time in their lives. What truly set this ski school apart was the unwavering positivity - no negative words were uttered to any child in the classes. Even in a year with minimal natural snow, the instructional facilities at Taos Ski Valley were top-notch, well groomed and maintained. The progressive teaching approach ensured that our son, along with his fellow students, developed their skills steadily. By the end of the day, they were confidently riding up the Gondolina, pointing their skis to stop quickly, making strong turns, and enjoying a thrilling ski run down the hill. The natural beauty of Taos Ski Valley--despite the 9 degree temperature when we arrived in the morning!-- served as a breathtaking backdrop to our son's introduction to skiing, enhancing the overall experience. After just one lesson, our son is now completely hooked on the sport. We highly recommend Taos Ski Valley's Youth Ski School for its exceptional instructors, positive environment, world class facilities, and the perfect blend of instruction and enjoyment that turned our son into a skiing enthusiast after just one day. It was truly an amazing experience.

Some of the hotels/lodging on the mountain are lovely but we didn't stay there due to higher cost. We stayed in El Prado, about a 30 minute drive, however, it's a beautiful drive. Either way, the consensus from our party was that we would return here to ski again.
