it is a conveninet location and there is a significant discount if you pay in cash which can make it more affordable. The rooms are clean and hygienic. However it is a hit or miss expereince. The clinic is no longer run by Dr. Chen. Her former associate bought it. You also better come prepared with your dignosis, because they are not great at diagnosing. Not very Zen, often overzealous with needles, erring on the side of placing more needles rather than less. The true mastery of acupuncture lies in being able to feel the lients energy, energy knots and strategiaclly placing the needles in the most effective, least amount of spots. Here, a lot of the time they are just guessing where to stick the needles, and sometimes very painfully so! When there is a knot you don't just stick a needle with all your strenght, you slip it in gently. I can forgive if it happens once, but it happened on every visit! Also at times the provider has so many patients scheduled in various rooms, that instead of zen, can be very frantic an hectic. They can be pushy and judgemental- and let their ego get in the way of what could be a potentially great session. There is potential here, and I think they try- but sometimes too much and too hard. Less is more. It can be hard, espeially in NYC to embrace more of the Yin passive energy, but that is what this place should do. They need to balance themselves, before providing " balancing" services to their clients. read more

Went to see Eileen for a shoulder/neck pain that's been bugging me on and off for years. She took care to explain what she was doing for me before we got started. I expected a little bit of pain from the needles but there actually wasn't any pain at all. When the needles came out and I sat up I felt like a new man! It felt as if a pressure had been lifted from my body and the pain was gone and I honestly felt better than I feel even when I'm not hurting! This is really an overdue review to Dr Chen. My mom has been going to Dr Chen's for almost a year. Dr Chen is the best of the best. My mom was experiencing numb forearm and fingers after being too tired taking care of my baby. Before going to Dr Chen, my mom was not able to feel her fingers. As magical as acupuncture and Dr Chen can be, Dr Chen helped my mom to get both her forearm and fingers back to normal. Then my mom continues going to Dr Chen for other small problems here and there. I also would like to thank Dr Chen tremendously for her help treating my new born son's eczema. When my son was 2 months old, he had very very very bad eczema. It was the yellow pus over the face and head, and bloody scratches over the elbows and calves...I cannot describe how bad it was. I went to Western doctors, and they could only prescribe steroid, and asked me to be patient to wait for my son to outgrow it. I asked Dr Chen in a casual conversation without any hope that she would gave me anything useful when my mom was receiving the treatment. Dr Chen came back to me with a Chinese herb prescription. It was very simple prescription with two herbs (60g Qing hao 60g Xia Ku Cao) and detailed instructions on how to boil them and use the water to bathe the baby. After 3 weeks, I saw tremendous improvement in my son's eczema that no more yellow pus or bloody scratches and only a bit redness that was healing. It was then that I knew the eczema would go, and I can just wait a bit. By the time my son was 10 months, he was eczema free! I also like that Dr Chen is very direct and straightforward in communication. She does not sugar coat the issues at all and will let you know how serious the problem is. I had acupuncture treatments in China, so I understand that it will take some sessions to resolve the issue. Dr. Chen is truly gifted. If I'm depressed she gives me "happy needle". If I'm tired, something else, etc. She doesn't just pop the needles in. With a few of the needles you can feel her searching for 5-10 seconds so she gets it exactly where she wants it. I'll note that when she hits that spot you go "whooo". Brief pain, but it goes away right away when she stops moving the needle. read more

I don't know why anyone would give this acupuncturist more than 1 star. She was rude, condescending, self-righteous and all about her ego. My first session was painful and I suffered through her sarcasm and negative crap. I am Chinese and can understand her language. While waiting in the room with the needles on my back, I heard her talking about other patients and they were not nice comments. She also told me in my first session that I shouldn't go for IVF because it won't work for me and not waste my money. Then 1 minute later she said "Okay, go for it and when it fails come back here and we try to fix it." I was so flabbergasted. I didn't even say or do anything to warrant that nasty behavior from her. I just listened to her rant on and on about how IVF doctors lie to patients and give false hope and how she is honest and will tell me the truth. She added so much stress to an already stressful time for me. Her needling hurts bad. I had a chat with another patient because I was wondering if The psychotic woman is the same to everyone. Yes, she is and the other patient also said her needling hurts more than any other place she had been to. It's interesting that while she needled me, she even volunteered without me speaking that many of patients tells her that her needling hurts. She argued aggressively that it's not "hurt" it's "sore" there is a difference. Throughout my entire first session, I just laid there freaking helpless because of the needles on my back, and listened to her psychotic rant. I still went back for a second and third session because I did feel something after the sessions. But when she freaking put the needle in the wrong place and made me jump up from the bed from the pain, bleeding and huge bruise, that was the final straw. She is extremely unprofessional and she is a fraud. Do not go to her. She never took my pulse either which is highly unusual in acupuncture. None of her techniques are normal. The bruise that she gave me looked grew larger and larger and it ended up looking like someone performed surgery on me. All of my friends and husband told me I should consider suing her. I am warning anyone who is considering Dr. Chen to run away as fast as you can. In hindsight, everything that I felt after the sessions was probably due to the meds that my IVF doctored gave me. I now go to Yinova and although they are pricey, they are extremely knowledgeable and professional. My acupuncturist at Yinova has thorough knowledge of fertility in both Eastern and Western medicine. She also always check my pulse and ask me for an update on my IVF treatment before we start. Do not trust Dr. Chen. She is crazy. I am so furious at myself for even giving her my time and money. read more

Thank goodness for Dr. Chen! A week before heading to Italy, I sprained my ankle running and the following morning, I couldn't put any weight on my left foot. The pain did not subside all week and after seeing an ankle specialist and physical therapist to no avail, I decided to give acupuncture a shot. The appointment process was a breeze and I was able to see Dr Chen the same day I called. The office is inviting and very clean, staffed with very nice receptionists and patients are seen in private rooms. After patiently hearing my complaints, Dr Chen quickly identified the problem areas and proceeded to work her magic on me. Excellant service and really affordable. Doctor Chen has been helping me with my muscle aches and injuries since 2010. She is one of the few doctors who actually wants to fix you up as quick as possible and with as little amount of treatments as possible. My very first visit I was sore after needle removal and she told me to go home and sleep and relax. If my injury is still bothering call and make another appointment. She really cares about her patients and wants them to be healthy. Never met any other doctor like that in my entire life. Wants you healthy and out of her office asap. I came there with TMJ and I was grinding my teeth in my sleep and now my jaw is nice and relaxed even during periods of high stress. Once a year to year and half I go back and get my jaw relaxed via the needles as maintenace but I am generally feeling good. I also exercise a lot and I always get muscle knots that hurt like crazy and are so tight that stretching/yoga/foam rolling/massage does not help at all. It basically feels like I have rocks under my skin. I got them in my shoulders and my shoulders got so bad to the point that I could not lift them above my head. She fixed them in about 2 weeks (3 treatments) and it bugged me for almost 2 months. Excellant doctor. Show up on time and she puts you in the room in 2 minutes after arrival. Treatment usally starts almost immediatley. She accepts insurance as well but if your insurance doesn't cover it (mine does not unfortunatley) the treatment is very affordable. You can go to a regular doctor for years spend god knows how much money on prescription pills that only mask your muscle problems or you can go here and get your problem fixed in a month (or probably less). Some things to know: 1. Usually the treatment leaves you sore after needle removal. Dont worry. Relax and in 2 days is when you will feel partial to total improvement (depending on your injury severity). 2. Go after work because you will be so relaxed after that you wont want to do anything. 3. You can call and get an appointment pretty easily. 4. Doctor Chen is very polite and wants to help you. Her secretary and medical assistant are the same. read more

Dr. Chen is a tremendously talented woman. I have visited many acupuncturists over the years but none have provided as much relief and insight as Dr. Chen. I went to her for hormonal issues and have been seeing her weekly for almost a year now. I am constantly amazed by her skill, compassion and intelligence. She trained as a OB/GYN in China before coming to the states and becoming an acupuncturist. She is extermely knowledgable about fertility and explains things in a scientific but accessible way. This isn't a place where you will have aromatherapy and mood lighting. But it is a place where you will experience serious treatment for your issues under the guidance of a experienced professional.
