Active Acupuncture - Acupuncture Near Me - New York, New York

Went to see Eileen for a shoulder/neck pain that's been bugging me on and off for years. She took care to explain what she was doing for me before we got started. I expected a little bit of pain from the needles but there actually wasn't any pain at all. When the needles came out and I sat up I felt like a new man! It felt as if a pressure had been lifted from my body and the pain was gone and I honestly felt better than I feel even when I'm not hurting! Overall my experience was wonderful and my shoulder/neck feel way better. I've gotten acupuncture from other places in the past that never did much for me but with Eileen, I saw real results! read more

it is a conveninet location and there is a significant discount if you pay in cash which can make it more affordable. The rooms are clean and hygienic. However it is a hit or miss expereince. The clinic is no longer run by Dr. Chen. Her former associate bought it. You also better come prepared with your dignosis, because they are not great at diagnosing. Not very Zen, often overzealous with needles, erring on the side of placing more needles rather than less. The true mastery of acupuncture lies in being able to feel the lients energy, energy knots and strategiaclly placing the needles in the most effective, least amount of spots. Here, a lot of the time they are just guessing where to stick the needles, and sometimes very painfully so! When there is a knot you don't just stick a needle with all your strenght, you slip it in gently. I can forgive if it happens once, but it happened on every visit! Also at times the provider has so many patients scheduled in various rooms, that instead of zen, can be very frantic an hectic. They can be pushy and judgemental- and let their ego get in the way of what could be a potentially great session. There is potential here, and I think they try- but sometimes too much and too hard. Less is more. It can be hard, espeially in NYC to embrace more of the Yin passive energy, but that is what this place should do. They need to balance themselves, before providing " balancing" services to their clients. read more

This is really an overdue review to Dr Chen. My mom has been going to Dr Chen's for almost a year. Dr Chen is the best of the best. My mom was experiencing numb forearm and fingers after being too tired taking care of my baby. Before going to Dr Chen, my mom was not able to feel her fingers. As magical as acupuncture and Dr Chen can be, Dr Chen helped my mom to get both her forearm and fingers back to normal. Then my mom continues going to Dr Chen for other small problems here and there. I also would like to thank Dr Chen tremendously for her help treating my new born son's eczema. When my son was 2 months old, he had very very very bad eczema. It was the yellow pus over the face and head, and bloody scratches over the elbows and calves...I cannot describe how bad it was. I went to Western doctors, and they could only prescribe steroid, and asked me to be patient to wait for my son to outgrow it. I asked Dr Chen in a casual conversation without any hope that she would gave me anything useful when my mom was receiving the treatment. Dr Chen came back to me with a Chinese herb prescription. It was very simple prescription with two herbs (60g Qing hao 60g Xia Ku Cao) and detailed instructions on how to boil them and use the water to bathe the baby. After 3 weeks, I saw tremendous improvement in my son's eczema that no more yellow pus or bloody scratches and only a bit redness that was healing. It was then that I knew the eczema would go, and I can just wait a bit. By the time my son was 10 months, he was eczema free! I also like that Dr Chen is very direct and straightforward in communication. She does not sugar coat the issues at all and will let you know how serious the problem is. I had acupuncture treatments in China, so I understand that it will take some sessions to resolve the issue. I am glad that I found Dr Chen and I am grateful that Dr Chen has helped both my mom and my baby. Kudos to Dr Chen! read more

Dr. Chen is truly gifted. If I'm depressed she gives me "happy needle". If I'm tired, something else, etc. She doesn't just pop the needles in. With a few of the needles you can feel her searching for 5-10 seconds so she gets it exactly where she wants it. I'll note that when she hits that spot you go "whooo". Brief pain, but it goes away right away when she stops moving the needle. read more

I don't know why anyone would give this acupuncturist more than 1 star. She was rude, condescending, self-righteous and all about her ego. My first session was painful and I suffered through her sarcasm and negative crap. I am Chinese and can understand her language. While waiting in the room with the needles on my back, I heard her talking about other patients and they were not nice comments. She also told me in my first session that I shouldn't go for IVF because it won't work for me and not waste my money. Then 1 minute later she said "Okay, go for it and when it fails come back here and we try to fix it." I was so flabbergasted. I didn't even say or do anything to warrant that nasty behavior from her. I just listened to her rant on and on about how IVF doctors lie to patients and give false hope and how she is honest and will tell me the truth. She added so much stress to an already stressful time for me. Her needling hurts bad. I had a chat with another patient because I was wondering if The psychotic woman is the same to everyone. Yes, she is and the other patient also said her needling hurts more than any other place she had been to. It's interesting that while she needled me, she even volunteered without me speaking that many of patients tells her that her needling hurts. She argued aggressively that it's not "hurt" it's "sore" there is a difference. Throughout my entire first session, I just laid there freaking helpless because of the needles on my back, and listened to her psychotic rant. I still went back for a second and third session because I did feel something after the sessions. But when she freaking put the needle in the wrong place and made me jump up from the bed from the pain, bleeding and huge bruise, that was the final straw. She is extremely unprofessional and she is a fraud. Do not go to her. She never took my pulse either which is highly unusual in acupuncture. None of her techniques are normal. The bruise that she gave me looked grew larger and larger and it ended up looking like someone performed surgery on me. All of my friends and husband told me I should consider suing her. I am warning anyone who is considering Dr. Chen to run away as fast as you can. In hindsight, everything that I felt after the sessions was probably due to the meds that my IVF doctored gave me. I now go to Yinova and although they are pricey, they are extremely knowledgeable and professional. My acupuncturist at Yinova has thorough knowledge of fertility in both Eastern and Western medicine. She also always check my pulse and ask me for an update on my IVF treatment before we start. Do not trust Dr. Chen. She is crazy. I am so furious at myself for even giving her my time and money. read more

Thank goodness for Dr. Chen! A week before heading to Italy, I sprained my ankle running and the following morning, I couldn't put any weight on my left foot. The pain did not subside all week and after seeing an ankle specialist and physical therapist to no avail, I decided to give acupuncture a shot. The appointment process was a breeze and I was able to see Dr Chen the same day I called. The office is inviting and very clean, staffed with very nice receptionists and patients are seen in private rooms. After patiently hearing my complaints, Dr Chen quickly identified the problem areas and proceeded to work her magic on me. I can honestly say that after one treatment, my ankle was much better and I am happy to say that I am pain free in Italy right now writing this review! Thank you so much Dr Chen for saving my trip, and I will be sure to recommend you to all my friends! read more

Dr. Chen (not related!) is amazing. She can identify issues within minutes and really nails the spot for therapy. She's very seasoned with credentials from the US and China. Would not hesitate to recommend her to others. read more

Pregnant after only a few sessions! I would ignore any low reviews. Dr. Chen is no-nonsense and results oriented. She has a kindness to her but is not meant to be a therapist. She is amazing at acupuncture and getting to the root cause. I would highly recommend her. read more

Warm and welcoming practice, very professional. Stayed with me in the room because was nervous getting acupuncture for the first time. Recommend, even though have only been one time so far. read more

Dr. Chen is excellent and I have had nothing but great experiences with her acupuncture treatment. Would recommend to anyone.

Excellant service and really affordable. Doctor Chen has been helping me with my muscle aches and injuries since 2010. She is one of the few doctors who actually wants to fix you up as quick as possible and with as little amount of treatments as possible. My very first visit I was sore after needle removal and she told me to go home and sleep and relax. If my injury is still bothering call and make another appointment. She really cares about her patients and wants them to be healthy. Never met any other doctor like that in my entire life. Wants you healthy and out of her office asap. I came there with TMJ and I was grinding my teeth in my sleep and now my jaw is nice and relaxed even during periods of high stress. Once a year to year and half I go back and get my jaw relaxed via the needles as maintenace but I am generally feeling good. I also exercise a lot and I always get muscle knots that hurt like crazy and are so tight that stretching/yoga/foam rolling/massage does not help at all. It basically feels like I have rocks under my skin. I got them in my shoulders and my shoulders got so bad to the point that I could not lift them above my head. She fixed them in about 2 weeks (3 treatments) and it bugged me for almost 2 months. Excellant doctor. Show up on time and she puts you in the room in 2 minutes after arrival. Treatment usally starts almost immediatley. She accepts insurance as well but if your insurance doesn't cover it (mine does not unfortunatley) the treatment is very affordable. You can go to a regular doctor for years spend god knows how much money on prescription pills that only mask your muscle problems or you can go here and get your problem fixed in a month (or probably less). Some things to know: 1. Usually the treatment leaves you sore after needle removal. Dont worry. Relax and in 2 days is when you will feel partial to total improvement (depending on your injury severity). 2. Go after work because you will be so relaxed after that you wont want to do anything. 3. You can call and get an appointment pretty easily. 4. Doctor Chen is very polite and wants to help you. Her secretary and medical assistant are the same. read more

She was really abrupt and has a very unpleasant bedside manner...i almost left in tears after the treatment because of her manner.

What can I say. Having never gone to an acupuncturist before, I went to Dr. Chen twice a week for a month or so, and my brutal hot flashes were gone. Dr. Chen sees all types of patients but her specialty is women's problems, particularly fertility. One feels complete confidence in her training, skill, wide experience, insight, and dedication. This is a no frills place, no music, no coat closet, bathroom up the hall. No matter. read more

I went to them for infertility help (we were told we had only a 5% chance of conceiving naturally) and got pregnant 4 months later! I am very grateful - Dr. Chen saved me from going through the IVF cycle I was going to begin soon. I continued my visits through the first 2 trimesters of my pregnancy and I felt great the whole time - I had lots of energy and absolutely no nausea or pain. I know it's all thanks to her treatments. The atmosphere is so warm and welcoming, I was actually sad when I had to stop going. Thank you thank you Dr. Chen and the girls - they are all so wonderful and helpful; it was the best kind of environment to be in during that stressful time. read more

Dr. Chen is great! I have acupuncture treatments for more than 10 years. I have tried many different acupuncture doctors in both US and Asia. I can tell if the acupuncture doctor hit the right spot or not. Dr. Chen is one of the best. She always hit the right spot. She knew my issue right away when she saw me for the 1st time. Her office is very clean and nice too. The bed in her office is like the one in SPA which is very comfortable. I have seen her for 5 times so far. I will continue to see her. read more

Chen is great!! She is a bit direct but I feel like she knows her stuff. I went to her for infertility and was very happy!

Worst acupuncture experience. Got headache and nausea after her acupuncture. Told her the needles are painful and she said I was exaggerating. She gave me a lecture during first visit. Basically everything was wrong read more

just with the initial phone call this place already is an indicator that all they want is your money! some rude Asian lady got on the phone asking me what I need when I told her she was irritable and proceeded to get annoyed when I asked the type of services they offer. if your telling me $100 for massage and I asked you what type DO NOT TELL OR TALK DOWN TO POTENTIAL CLIENTS WHO WAS NOT COMING IN AS AN INDIVIDUAL BUT making an appointment for 3 people. Also don't be so money hungry and describe your services as whatever... the rude classless gold digging Asian lady was too eager to stick needles rather than do offer something less invasive... BE WARNED! read more

I'm a longtime patient who originally went to Dr Chen for ear pain and pressure. She helped me with that and now we've moved on to my chronic neck and back issues. There's no problem she can't address, even itchy skin! She is extremely smart and confident, and a true fountain of knowledge. The ladies who work in the office are also very nice, professional, and competent. Guaranteed, you will feel relief from whatever ailment you are experiencing! read more

I love Dr. Chen and her clinic! First, she is a great doctor! I injured my back from tennis. She made my back pain go away. Her technique is very good and I feel that she always hits the right spot. Second, she has a good team with professional receptionists and assistants. They are always helpful with appointment setup and insurance-related questions. Third, the environment is very pleasant. Always neat and clean. I fall asleep on the heavenly spa bed every time! Highly recommend! read more

I never wrote any reviews before but this is a must!!! Highly recommend. Dr Chen defiantly knows what she is doing and carefully listen to what I said. My neck and back had a lot of pains for 4 days and most of the pain just gone after the first acupuncture. I cannot even tilt my head downwards before the treatment...I made another appointment 2 days later. 这个医生真的很好，比那些满网页阴阳太极佛zen道的靠谱多了 read more

Highly recommended, very professional service. I went to Eileen for a recurring hamstring injury that had been bothering me for a few months. A few treatments and the nagging pains and tightness were all but gone. She explained thoroughly what she was doing, and why I was experiencing the pain, even identifying an older injury I had sustained in my back during the process without me mentioning it. read more

I started seeing Dr. Chen around 7-8 months ago for infertility issues as well as pain from a labrum tear in my shoulder. I had previously seen two other acupuncturists in NYC but feel that her methods worked best for me. Previous acupuncturists were prescribing expensive herbs but she explained these shouldn't be mixed while also taking other medications for the same purpose. She is incredibly easy to schedule appointments with and also accepts insurance! The only con to her office is that the walls are very thin so you can usually hear her consultations with others. But I've found that if I play music in the room I don't hear this as much. I believe she will also be in a new office in the next few months so hopefully this won't be an issue anymore. After about 3-4 months of seeing her regularly 1x per week I am pregnant and my shoulder pain is almost non-existent! I'm a strong believer in the effects of acupuncture on the body and would highly recommend Dr. Chen. read more

Dr. Chen is a tremendously talented woman. I have visited many acupuncturists over the years but none have provided as much relief and insight as Dr. Chen. I went to her for hormonal issues and have been seeing her weekly for almost a year now. I am constantly amazed by her skill, compassion and intelligence. She trained as a OB/GYN in China before coming to the states and becoming an acupuncturist. She is extermely knowledgable about fertility and explains things in a scientific but accessible way. This isn't a place where you will have aromatherapy and mood lighting. But it is a place where you will experience serious treatment for your issues under the guidance of a experienced professional. Her staff is incredibly friendly, flexible and efficient. I also appreciate that Dr. Chen mentors acupuncture students in her office and shares her expertise. It is just another example of what a true treasure she is. Highly Recommended! read more
