Poor experience overall. I am 25 years old and have lots of bodily pain and despite communicating…read moremy issues I did not feel heard I did not feel cared for. I did not feel listened to. Dr. Chen spent 15 min with me and didn't even address any of my concerns. I mentioned I was having gut and stomach pain on a regular daily basis. She asked if I had been diagnosed with IBS. I said no. Rather than giving me steps to take to figure out what the problem is or how I could be diagnosed she just told me to avoid dairy. She did not ask and therefore did not learn that no matter what I eat afterward my stomach is always upset even if I avoid dairy. I mentioned I would like to see a gastroenterologist. I was told since I was not 45 years old a colonoscopy wasn't necessary which I assume just means it's not gonna be covered by insurance so she's not going to recommend it. I told her my pain had been going on for six years and yet no tests recommended to figure out the issue. Also, I mentioned I wanted to get off of a medication and wanted the liquid form because my research had said it's best to taper off very slowly. She just said "it doesn't work like that" and shrugged off that concern as well rather than giving me what I wanted and asked for... the whole reason I made the appointment was only to get my medication switched to liquid, which wasn't even achieved. So now I'm waiting for my expensive bill for receiving nothing. Not happy at all. I left my appointment very angry frankly. I don't want to come across as rude, but doctors need to do better. It just angers me that I am trying my best to take care of my own health and not receiving any help and despite knowing what I'm feeling every day somehow a Doctor Who has spent 30 minutes with me in total over the past year, think she knows what's best for me, which is to do nothing. Why are doctors telling us what we can and can't do for our own health if we have the money to pay for it. Blows my mind. Again, I hate to be so negative, but I feel I need to speak up for so many people who feel their concerns are ignored and unimportant. I wrote this not only to get out my own feelings, but to hopefully help others avoid the same experience I had.

Dr. Chen is one of the best doctors I've ever had. She took the most detailed medical history I've…read moreever had anyone take. (I'm retired military and have a ton of physicals. None were as thorough as this one.) She is always polite and professional. She has a talent for putting you at ease even when there may be something serious at work. I've been a patient for years and she doesn't hesitate to chase down problems and refer you to a specialist when needed. She has recently closed her practice. I hope she comes back soon.

I can't emphasize enough to do your research beforehand if you use this business. Make sure you go…read moreto the CDC website & confirm exactly which vaccinations are needed for the country to which you are traveling &, especially, to the region of the county you are going to. If you are unable to get an appointment at the public health department, which is cheaper & more accurate info, consider contacting them for info about everything you need & how far apart each vaccination must be. They will give you accurate info (same info as CDC). Public Health Department in SLO County: https://www.slocounty.ca.gov/departments/health-agency/public-health/all-public-health-services/clinical-communicable-disease-services/travel-shots I also encourage you to research any vaccinations required that you got during childhood that may be required for the country to which you are traveling & how long those vaccinations provide protection (eg polio, MMR, etc) as most typically protect people for life. Additionally, keep in mind, you can save $$ & purchase the bug spray the CDC recommends with at least 30% deet to protect from disease carrying mosquitos at most stores.

On January 7, 2014, a very heavy object fell on the second toe of my left foot (a foot which is…read morevery swollen as it is still recovering from extensive surgery). It resulted in a fractured toe, and torn off toe nail. Also, because I am an A-Fib patient, I am on a blood thinner (Xarelto), which resulted in profuse bleeding at the site of the injury, which continued for almost two hours. As my husband and I were staying at a campsite in Pismo Beach, I had him ask their office for a referral to an emergency facility. Simultaneously, I researched a facility on my smart phone. Both sources led me to your medical center. I called ahead and was given directions, and informed that the wait time was about 45 minutes. I had every reason to believe that I would be treated in a timely manner, considering the bleeding and gory nature of the injury (your office staff even provided me with a waterproof pad to protect your carpeting). After 2-1/2 hours of waiting (from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM) and observing patients, presumably with routine appointments, come and go, my husband inquired at the front desk as to how much longer we can expect to wait before I'll be seen. He was told that it would probably be another 2-1/2 hours! I was appalled, especially when I was told by one of your staff that "...this is an urgent care!" I guess I misunderstood the definition of "urgent." We walked out, and proceeded to go to the Arroyo Grande Hospital emergency room, where we had been advised to go by a patient in your waiting room. I was fortunate to have received wonderful medical treatment almost immediately. I cannot overemphasize my dismay at the way I was ignored in your office. I don't believe you have any right to represent yourself as an urgent care facility. My only regret is that we wasted 2-1/2 precious hours of our vacation in your waiting room.

I wish I could give Dr. Newman and his staff at MedPlus a "zero" star. Due to my insurance I've had…read moreto use this office and Dr. Newman for the last several years. After my most recent experience I've filed a complaint with Blue Shield and will never visit this office again. The front desk staff at this office has historically been the rudest, most insensitive group of people that I've ever met. I can only assume they are allowed to continue with this kind of service because Dr. Newman (the man at the top) sets this kind of example. Recently I visited the MedPlus office with a 102 degree fever, racking cough, chills, sore throat, trouble breathing...the whole nine yards. The gal at the front desk told it would be "several hours" before anyone might be able to see me. Since I live about two blocks away, I asked if it would be possible for me to go home and they could give me a phone call when a Dr. was available, that way i wouldn't be sitting in the waiting room, coughing, feeling aweful, and infecting everybody else The girl at the desk, I didn't get her name, was totally uncaring, and refused to even listen to my request. "You have to wait here if you want to get in. You could come back every 45 minutes of so to check you spot in line". I had a few words with her, something along the lines of "I'm a patient, as well as a customer, and I feel so bad i can barely stand up, would it really be that hard to give me a quick 30 second phone call?" It was obvious from the look on her face and the tone of her voice that she really didn't care about me, or anyone else in the waiting room. "That's not what we do, but you're welcome to find another doctor's office if you don't like our service" was her reply....enough said. Dr. Newman, I've been seeing you, and visiting your office for several years. Now you've lost a patient, as well as a customer. I know you probably don't care. However, in the bigger picture, you should. The way you let your office be ran, and the disrespect you and your staff have shown to me and other patients is beyond belief. I'm glad that I'm moving on and won't have to deal with you and your disrespectful staff anymore. My suggestion for any one seeking urgent care is to avoid this office.
