I first learned of Acting Pros when I attended a free workshop headed by Wendy Davis at SAG. Immediately, I knew that Wendy and her Acting Pros partner-in-crime, Lilach Mendelovich, had a bottle of secret awesome sauce on audition technique. Just this past fall (2019), I had the privilege of studying with Lilach for 12 weeks and doing a special session on close-ups with Wendy. Before taking this class, I did not have a strong process in place to break down challenging sides quickly and effectively. I always spent too much time working on thoughts and backstory that did not necessarily heighten the given circumstances of the scene. I was working hard, but it was hardly working! I was exploring so much, that I got lost in scene execution. Lilach is an expert scene detective. She breaks down the specificity of each moment in a scene, from the scene descriptions to the action lines to the dialogue. Nothing is missed or taken for granted. As Lilach made our class see, all the answers are there in the script if you seek them out and stay true to that script. As many actors do, I was looking for a way to improve my skills. I know I have a look that works to get the audition. I have what it takes to pull off a scene. I just needed to get through an audition. Sound familiar? I attended a free workshop, and yes, I showed up ready to learn something, seem interested, be scared by the price and never go back... but... I actually sat there and considered it, called my boyfriend, borrowed money and signed up for the class. I wasn't sure what to expect, and I'm glad I didn't. I think of it as an acting class surrounded by an audition class. Like a yummy acting taco! Full of all the goodness that will fill your confidence to get into a casting room and give it your all. It's not a guarantee that you'll get every roll you go for, but it will guarantee, if you do your work, that you will give it your 100% at every audition. Julienne Irons was our main instructor. This studio is a GAMECHANGER! I only wish I had found this class years a go. I have taken "Audition Game Pro" and "How to be Captivating in a Close up." They truly take the time to help you master you skills, and rock each audition!! One of the things I love about this studio is we get to audition every week. These weekly auditions really help you learn to trust yourself and "Free-Fall" going into your audition. I first should start off by saying I rarely write reviews on Yelp unless I am truly inspired to do so. My first class with Acting Pros was the Audition Game Pro. This is an on-camera class that helps with understanding so many elements of the audition process with a visual aid for comprehension. It was the vehicle to my next level of understanding the audition process. I'm still new and learning more about the acting and auditioning process. When I received an e-mail from "Industry Deals" regarding the Acting Pros class, I was curious to check out the initial free workshop. I'm so glad I did! I haven't taken other Audition classes, so I don't have much to compare to, but even when I was talking to a couple people there, they said that they've taken audition classes, and none of them was quite like what they experienced at Acting Pros. That definitely peaked my interest. I learned a lot from the audition class! Since Lilach Mendelovich is also a screenwriter, she helped me notice details with the writing in the script that I wouldn't have known otherwise. I also learned to think in terms of personalities and how certain behaviors would be consistent or inconsistent for a personality-type...things I never thought or before. It was helpful to watch playbacks of our mock auditions as well as learn from watching playbacks of my classmates' performances. There were a couple times that Wendy Davis filled in with teaching, which was a treat also. She and Lilach are wonderful teachers in their own way. Wendy has the "promoter-personality" style and Lilach is the "analytical" one. I know this class is considered an "audition" class but for me, it is more so a "booking" class. Studying with Acting Pros has taught me how to book casting offices and roles. I floundered for years with my auditions and never reached a level of consistently booking roles. I also never felt like I booked the "office," which is also a very important thing to do. You might not be right for that particular role but if you book the casting office they will have you in again and again. If you can get yourself to that level then the bookings will start to follow. Acting Pros trains you how to approach a script and really dive into it. You learn how to take it line by line and find meaningful information that will set your audition apart from the others. Also, since you are on camera each week you learn techniques for making your performance memorable. The friendship and camaraderie are also a huge plus. Everyone is extremely friendly and supportive. It is a very safe place to practice. I used to be terrified to go on auditions. I was super happy to be called in but always rushed my scene and couldn't wait to be on my way home. It was because I lacked confidence. I knew I could do the role, but I didn't know how to audition. Now I can't wait to get into the room and show them what I've got. I make sure to use all of my audition time with confidence, and I know that I won the audition game when I leave. After that, I forget about it and look forward to the next one. Because I know that I did a great job and I know I will get booked when I'm perfect for the part. I recently completed Audition Game Pro with Julienne and am extremely happy I decided to invest the money and time. Before this class I did not study with anyone, acting on a friend's advice that I didn't need any classes. I needed to get out and find work, as he was doing. Have you heard the saying "don't listen to other actors"? Well, be careful of the ones you listen to. I got "beat up" at least 10 of the 12 class meets, trying old approaches, bold risks and just not knowing how to properly analyze the sides. And with each nurturing and supporting beating, I learned and became smarter. During the weeks I had a couple auditions that I applied what I was learning from the class and even reached out to Julienne for assistance with the audition material. I didn't book either. But, I'm comfortable it's not because of my performance. I had only one class with Emily and Lilach, and they were equally as supportive and effective. I am already a repeat student of the Acting Pros family! I took the beginner course with Lilach, Julienne, and Wendy and then I also took the first Comedy Intensive with Lilach. Acting Pros is great. You learn a system that specifically is geared towards auditioning. It is truly amazing. I've noticed a huge difference in my self-submits especially. It is pretty technical at first, but once you start understanding and applying the system, it really works. The classes are very positive environments that focus on all student's growth. I've been in many acting training programs where a teacher will favor some students and ignore others - Acting Pros is NOT like that. All the teacher's focus on helping each student tackle their own bad habits and push you to be consistent and strong. They will be honest with you but in a positive framework. The way that Lilach takes the script and breaks it down, I've never thought of doing that myself they really open a lot of thoughts and ideas choices that you can make to make your audition much better. But once I decided to take their 12 week class, I was convinced I had made the right decision. I truly love Julienne's energy.
