1-Star Review: Dishonest and Unprofessional Management I called the Acropolis Hotel on a Friday to reserve a room, but a few hours later I decided to cancel the reservation. When I called back, I specifically asked the manager if there would be any kind of cancellation fee -- which I was fine with if there was -- and he said "OK," implying everything was taken care of. At that time, my card hadn't even been charged yet. Oddly enough, after canceling, my card was then charged the following Monday. When I called to find out what happened, the manager told me I was "out of luck" but that I'd receive a credit in the mail for a future stay. That "credit" never arrived. Thankfully, my bank reviewed the situation and agreed that the charge was made in error -- especially since nothing was signed, and there was no record of any cancellation policy. In fact, there's no mention anywhere on their website about a cancellation policy, even though the manager claimed there was. That lack of transparency probably helped my dispute go in my favor. After reading through other negative reviews, it's clear this property has gone downhill. It seems like the management is just trying to grab as much money as they can instead of providing honest service or maintaining the hotel properly. To start off giving this place a one star review is far too kind. So my girlfriend and I checked in for a weekend getaway to the Jersey shore. The minute we got to the room we knew it would be nightmare if we stayed there. 1. Lights did not work 2. No Room AC 3. A dirty bathroom 4. Stained sheet and BED BUGS. The minute I got off the comforter I felt like I had been bitten. The couch was broken. We asked for a refund since we stayed there all of 5 minutes they declined. My family and I spent labor weekend. It was not as bad as the reviews make it out to be. Friendly staff. The place no doubt needs to be updated. Nothing some paint and new doors couldn't fix. Negative star rating is needed for this dump. Stayed here over 15 years ago. It was bad then and worse now. No air condition. I complained and the owner said to give them some time to look into it. Never was addressed. Luckily there was a nice breeze and we had friends staying in another room and their room came with 2 fans! Smelled musty and damp. The owner is a nightmare around the pool. All she does is walk around and harass patrons about what is in their coolers and or drink tumblers. She asked me several times what was in my water tumbler. She made other guests take their soft pack coolers back to their rooms. We heard the owner saying that she was so annoyed by complaining guests "All they do is compliant but they keep coming back ". The first time I stayed there she yelled at me for feeding the seagulls, when the bird swooped down and stole the grilled cheese I just bought at their restaurant! STAY FAR AWAY! This place is in a great location. That's it for the pros. The cons...if you haven't read enough reviews on the filth, let me explain. It's disgusting. Never in my life have I ever stayed in a hotel room so awful. AC is so old there are no thermostats. Only a button that's off-low-med-high. It doesn't work which is why there are filthy fans in every room. We paid a lot of money to stay in the Penthouse Suite. Never told the elevator only went to 5th floor. Had to carry suitcases up a fire escape to 6th fl. They wouldn't send me pics of those rooms. Penthouse my arse. It was a dump. I checked bed first & a bug was walking across the pillow under the 15 yr old comforter. Ceiling caving in, vents had furry black crap coming out, holes in walls, carpet was disintegrating, not much air anywhere in this teeny 'penthouse', zero air in the 1950s bathroom that was never renovated. $500 a night for that????? I was furious. They let us see other rooms. Horribly worse. The smell was gross. DO NOT STAY HERE!! Customers were cleaning the pool which desperately needed to be resurfaced esp on steps. I did not speak to one person who was not complaining about this place. We reserved 3 nights but only stayed for two-we were that disgusted. The good reviews are bs. There is nothing about this place I can recommend in good conscience. Needs to be leveled. It's not just inside. Structure looks so unsafe, it's crazy this passes any inspection. read more

The Acropolis should be called The Acropolis. Where do I start? The place is a mess. When we arrived they informed us that the air conditioner was broken down but not to fear it would be repaired by the next day. Well, four days later it's still broken down. A day after we arrived a couple was at the front desk and the desk clerk said to them, "oh the air conditioner is broken down but it will be repaired by Tomorrow" They issued fans to all the guests. They were nice new box fans. The Acropolis is in a very poor condition I don't believe they do any maintenance. The sheets have holes in them and the front door frame to my room look like someone has kicked it down about 35 times and they just keeps screwing it back together. They were two small sliding glass windows in my back room one had broken glass and a hole. And no screens in the windows. The screen in the balcony door is also torn half out so lots of biting flies got in. Our outlet in the kitchenette did not work. Go somewhere else. Call it the ACRAPOLIS. read more

Only good thing about this place is the location. Place is a dump!!! Air conditioning doesn't work. There was a fan in our room when we checked in and now I know why. Place smells like mildew. The moisture in the room is so bad the carpets are damp. Disgusting! Prices at the bar for the same drink were never the same. They just charge you whatever they feel like. The apparent "manager " walks around by the pool and smokes cigarettes half the day. I complained yesterday about the room and was only told, "sorry you feel that way." No meal voucher, or what can we do to make your stay better. Complete incompetence and lack.of customer service. Stay far away from this place! Just returned from a one week stay at this dinosaur with our family. We booked 2 rooms. Room 506 and room 407. There are only a few good things about this hotel. It's location, which was perfect, the AC (very cold but could be adjusted), the spotty internet and every room is ocean front. Yes, I said spotty internet, because I was happy to at least have some connection. 1. The hotel is run down, dingy, dirty and smelly. We walked into the lobby and could not figure our what the smell was. It was not the musty smell of beach houses but a dirty farm animal smell. We followed the trail of its oder and it lead us right into the restaurant. Needless to say, we never ate one meal there. 2.The elevator was filthy which seems to me, to be one of the easiest things you can clean (see pic). The foyer on our floor had chipped ceiling and wall paint. Not a little chipped paint here and there, but, large obvious decaying paint. 3. Upon entering the room it had that musty smell. I understand, most of the hotels in the Wildwoods have that distinct smell, since, we have been visiting Wildwood for over 20 years on and off. But, now that I am home all of our clothing has taken on the smell, so, now my house smells musty. Everything needs to be washed whether we wore it or not. The room was falling apart. Please see pictures. 4. The pool was cloudy all week and the seagulls seem to have found a swamp to swim in and drink from. My understanding of a chlorinated pool is, if a bird can drink it you don't have the right amount of it in the pool to protect it from algae and bacteria growing. So, we never went in the pool. The kiddie pool was even cloudier and green. The area around the pool is a rock cement walkway, so, you can not walk barefoot around the pool or rip up your feet. 5. The maid service stinks. Our beds were made everyday looking like a 3 year old made it (see pics). They never cleaned the table, counters, sinks, bed stands, or floors. So that explains the ants, yes, ants. So, I guess maid service just means making the bed. The sliding glass door was never cleaned before our stay and was never cleaned during the week. 6. It was hard to stay there but, since I booked one of the rooms through, Booking.com, I had to give a 50% deposit, and since their policy is, up 30 days prior to your stay you can not cancel, it meant if I walked out at that point I would have lost $1800. Our biggest mistake was not looking at the room first before paying up front. I might have had an option to find a cleaner safer room. I will never do that again. The best thing about this hotel is the location and the view you get from your room. It is close to the restaurants and bars and seeing and hearing the ocean everyday was therapeutic. Went down Friday( was staying til Monday) place had no AC.. they said they were working on it.. there was not one work van anywhere near the place.. they offered another hotel in the heart of wildwood that looked like a crack house.. asked for a refund as we found another place for Friday but not the rest of the weekend.. thank god my brother was down and ended up at his place on Saturday.. they didn't refund ALL my money and we had to leave the shore on Sunday.. they completely ruined my trip and apparently the air has been broken for months but they don't tell you that when you book.. place was a dump too.. stay away!!!! read more

"Jen", the owner's (Nick) wife is the most unprofessional, rude, inconsiderate, threatening business owner I have ever met. She raises her voice to her employees and to the paying customers. She uses profanity when speaking with her customers ( I was that customer). In June of 2021 my fiancé and I stayed in "Penthouse" 603 for my birthday. The sliding glass door was shattered, it had light blue plexiglass over it, when the door was opened and or closed , pieces of glass fell out, the sliding glass door still remains broken even in August. When this was brought up to the front desk, we were not even offered a new room or an apology. The carpets are wet/damp, bedspreads and sheets are stained, black mold in the bathroom, leaking refrigerator, broken shower door, broken ice machine and vending machine. Stayed there in July of 2020, there was NO AIRCONDITIONING or elevator for the entire time we stayed (4 days). We had to carry all out luggage up 6 flights. When I asked for a few fans, I was given 2 FILTHY dust covered floor fans!!! We were not told about the AC or elevator, we discovered it AFTER we paid. The staff do not meet your needs, when asked for a remote control for the TV, it took 2 days. The pool paint is chipping, the baby pool appears to be dirty, there is trash just thrown out into the walkways outside of the units. The best part of this motel is Elenore at the front desk! Do not stay here!!! Ive stayed in a lot of questionable places but this by far has been the worst. I stayed here with 2 friends for a relaxing, quiet bachelorette weekend. I have a laundry list of complaints that range from a leaky ceiling, which upon complaint, maintenance just put two garbage cans underneath. They did not offer us to switch rooms. The staff is rude and always acts like you're putting them out. We asked for clean towels and toilet paper not once but twice, and instead of bringing it to us they made us go get them. Not to mention there are no phones in the room so you have to walk down five flights of steps twice to get the towels and toilet paper. There are no deadbolt locks on the door, just a measly lock on the knob. There were bugs in the room, broken glass in the windows and literal trash in the stairwells and outdoor showers. The shower tiles had mold between them and there are not enough outlets in the rooms. It's also very dark as there is one lamp in the room. I know you pay for the view but even the balcony leaves something to be desired as you sit outside and get verbally harassed by other guests on their balconies, this being mostly male visitors. The only redeeming quality was the virgin pina coladas the bartenders made us every day. I've included pictures of some of the details. We paid over $800 to stay here so I was expecting A LOT more than trash in the hallways and leaky ceilings, unpleasant staff and broken glass. This was supposed to be a celebration for my friend and I was embarrassed that this was the hotel we brought her to. 10/10 do not recommend. Will never stay there again. read more

central air conditioning was advertised as an amenity. when we arrived on 7/22/23, the room was very hot. we made sure the thermostat was set to high and went to the beach. air conditioning still not working after 2 hours. the next morning I spoke with the wife of the owner. she apologized and said the men were here to fix it. This place is an absolute shit hole. The towels and sheets were stained, the housekeepers had roach spray on their carts. The ac vents are horrible, black mold around all of them and we woke up coughing. My 76 year old mother fell over the unsafe jenkety sliding door lip and we asked the front desk for a band aide and out of 4 first aide kits they had not 1 damn band aide! The kitchenette had RUSTY knives and ants all over the counters. We cut our losses n left early, no way that place is up to code. Pass on this please ! read more

Location is perfect, right next to the beach, close to the boardwalk and other attractions. Friendly staff. However, the location is in need of a major upgrade. Everything is old, muggy/moldy and has set in stains. The smell of cigarette smoke is overpowering and the room lights are vey dim. We had to go out and get brighter bulbs just to be able to see properly. TV remote was not working when we got there and stopped working again during our stay. Decent swimming pool area. There's a laundry facility on premises,which is pretty cool. You have to pay at least a 50 cents for ice at the vending machine. As I said, great location and friendly staff, but some basic upgrades would make this place much more appealing. read more

I am usually a very easy to please person don't ever really complain. My family and i booked three night stay at Acropolis before reading any reviews because it was one of few motels with an opening on such short notice. When we arrived the women at the front desk were nothing but rude. Apprently it is improper to even come into the check in area before three . When it finally turned three i returned back to the check in desk where they had charged me an extra $3 dollars more then what the booking online said. When finished checking in the lady pretty much wanted nothing to do with my family and I. When we finally got into the room and settled we finally got a chance to take it all in. The room STUNK of mold, wet, old, dusty everything. The bathroom Reeked of cigarette smoke. Then when looking around the room the door to the front door was actually cracked the doors to separate the two rooms both of them were ripped and cracked.Then while looking at the AC vent they were completely rusted over and did not even work. My family and I even put our things down and left to go eat dinner and came back meanwhile the air was set too high the entire time we're gone with all the lights off because mind you only two lights in the entire place worked. When return the room was still steaming hot and smelled even worse than when we first got there. My brother then noticed that the controllers had zero batteries in then when he went to the desk to ask them for some they made it seem as if he was a bother to them while they were just sitting down outside of the desk. Pretty much making a fuss that we should bring our own batteries. Also had to go out and get our own toilet paper because they can not be bothered for anything !!!! The beds felt dusty and when asked for our room to be turned down while we were out we came back to the exact stained sheets that we asked to be replaced. Overall the experience is not worth it AT ALL. Save your money and honestly sleep in your car if thats the only option. We ended up leaving a day early because it was not worth it. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY! I wish I could give ZERO STARS! The rooms are outdated and filled with ants, mold, and mildew. The smell is horrendous and we constantly were spraying fabreeze. Thank God we spent most of our time outside on the patio, at the pool, and the boardwalk. The walls are cracked and the door looks like SWAT broke them down. The restaurant smells musty and looking at it you would never want to eat there. If you order take out check your order. The cook doesn't speak English so you may get a surprise. The ceilings are cracked and look like they are about to cabe in at any moment. The air conditioning vent is rusted and leaks and there's hardly any cool air. Also wear shoes at all times. The rugs are so dirty you will end up with black feet. Also bring your own linens and blankets. There are an infestation of ants everywhere. We had our stroller in the room and when we opened it there were ants all in it. We couldn't even put food or drinks in the tables it was so disgusting. The paint is painted over at least 3-4 tones and is chipping in every part of the buil While at the pool a gentleman began cleaning the sides of the pool with a scrubbing brush and a bucket of bleach while young children were frolicking in the pool. We questioned the man and he acted as if we were bothering him and seemed inconvenienced. We asked to see the manager and he obliged while huffing and puffing. About ten minutes later he came back and said Jennifer was busy and told him to stop. He walked away and said all we were doing was keeping him from doing his job. Unbelievable! The baby pool was so cloudy it looked like milk! Finally allowing the public to park doesn't bother me but assign spaces closer to the hotel to your guests and don't also allow the public to have access to the pool. MOLD MOLD MOLD... on the shower curtains it was disgusting, my friend was sneezing and couldn't breathe all weekend, second the ceiling was leaking in the kitchen area... 3 rd the couch was stained with blood or ketchup we are not really sure .... my friends and I had black feet bc it was so incredibly dirty, air was broken and had to switch rooms but the maid came in screaming at my friends to clean up the other room that they were sleeping in since we were switching rooms Very unprofessional my friend was legit sleeping and was woken up by the staff ?? Is it perfect? No. The elevator gets stuck or stops at the wrong floor as often as it doesn't. The rooms smell musty. It's old. BUT as far as beach hotels go, it's top notch! It's very clean, the rooms are decently sized, the pool is beautiful, and the location is awesome. It is across the street from the beach and you can see and hear the ocean from every room. The boardwalk is a couple blocks away, so you're never too far from fun. The restaurant looks old but the food is very good and fairly priced. In short, if you're planning a Wildwood trip, you can't go wrong at Acropolis. read more

No channel guide offered to guests. Had to pay $10 deposit for remote Unable to watch PSU game Friday 9.21.18.Informed front desk clerk no maid service needed . Requested linens and asked that maids pick up trash and dirty linens I placed in front of room door. Not done. I had to track down maids next day. My husband asked for hangers, the woman at the front desk said "if you are nice to me I will give you some". Pool and outside area nice. Only good thing about the place. read more

I don't believe the Acropolis is worthy of one star, but I am required to give it some rating. There are no words to describe the disappointment my group faced when staying at the Acropolis. If from some unfortunate act throws you into the gates of hell aka the Acropolis let me enlighten you with some suggestions. 1. Bring change, lots of change. If you like cold drinks you're going to need to bring some change for ice because yes, you must pay for ice. Don't count on a change machine as there aren't any. Also, don't bother asking the front desk. Although the front desk has a cash drawer, they will refuse to give you any change. 2. While at the front desk be sure to check out the sign that is bribing customers to go on to tripadvisor and give them a review in a "positive light" in exchange for $100 off their next stay. Bribery is the best policy at the Acropolis. 3. Don't plan on watching tv. The screen on the tv is blurred and appears as though you are failing an eye exam. 4. Don't count on the refrigerator to work. Ours broke during the night causing a surplus of water to leak over our food ruining many items. The only positive thing I will say is our maintenance man who eventually did come to fix it, was kind. 5. Bring dish soap. The items in your "kitchen" have probably only been rinsed with water. 6. If you have mold allergies bring your Benadryl. The carpets stank of mildew and mold probably due to lack of carpet cleanings. 7. Bring sleeping bags to sleep on as the sheets are dirty as well as the bed spreads. 8. Bring some comet as your bathtub/shower probably haven't been scrubbed since the 70's. 9. Bring a handy man with as the screen door breaks often as well as furniture is held together with aluminum foil. I wish that I had believed the reviews on here before our group spent our weekend in a cesspool. If you are willing to stay here, please take into account my recommendations. read more

It's a dump but it's expected, when you go to Wildwood. you have to go prepared, extra towels , soap, shampoo etc... The ACRAPolis is like a cabana it's dirty, rusted bathroom tile and fixtures. Hard as a rock beds no smoke detectors Windows painted shut ( at least in 203&204) I would never walk barefoot on the nasty carpet. And the towels are the cheapest quality ever! The good part is the view is fantastic and the staff are very nice even the weird lady who sat in the lobby with her teenage daughter from 10am till 11pm , I think she was the owner watching the staff and guests. read more

Very basic. Bring your own coffee, blow dryer and shampoo (they did supply soap and dish soap) Despite other reviews, our room was clean, no bugs. The maid did a great job. Most of the staff was cordial. The owner's/manager wife was pretty salty. My husband asked for ice (after walking all 5 floors in 90 degree weather to find all ice machines broken) and she about bit his head off (my hubby is super sweet and non confrontive so that was totally uncalled for) You have to pay for ice. Parking was terrible on Friday because they rent spaces to non guests so guests are out of luck?! The AC broke and really didn't work well the whole week. They had free drink vouchers for the bar. (we don't drink) So we were residing with hot cranky drunks that night...delightful. The view was stunning and the pool was nice but crowded. Won't return but was glad to have been able to be at the shore for the 4th of July. read more

When we arrived, the bathroom was not cleaned, had hair all over, towels were wet. That's where we begin.... The hotel now sells your parking spaces, so parking was a headache. Day two - the shotty cleaning people leave 1 wash cloth, no hand towels. Same the following day. The microwave was never cleaned, food stains. Under the sink was a moldy bucket. The AC barely worked, fortunately it was not mid-summer. One day the pool was locked at 3:00 PM. My wife asked the owner to unlock and he just walked away!! This was my fifth visit, and definitely my last, until the hotel goes under and new ownership takes over. When I checked out I went to complain, and more than one employee agreed and said the owner simply does not care. There are plenty of options in N. Everything else in this hotel is disgusting dirty smelly moldy & ants everywhere elevator doesn't work it's not worth the money just for the view. Oh & the pull out bed was expectedly horrible damp borderline wet i had to air it out every day it smelled musty we couldn't wait to chk out. Let me add to the end of my review bc these ppl are nothing but shady snakes!! This is horrible! Our room we has mold and no ac! So we went down to talk to management and all they offered is a fan and no refunds! They obviously know how horrible there place is and they know how much it's going to cost to fix and they are pinching pennies at this point! We were supposed to stay two nights and now we are out $400 and are staying in another hotel bc this place sucks! Just wait for the health inspector that shows up! So yes we had the health inspector come out and check our room but of course all he could smell is bleach! They covered up everything! It's really sad these ppl are just stealing ppls money! Surprised when i read the other reviews. We just got back from a two night stay and had a lovely time. As soon as we opened the door to our room ( room 200, corner room second floor) we were greeted with the smell of cleaning supplies. It just smelled fresh, not that musty old smell you usually get in the hotels down there. No complaints really. Clean, the maid restocked us on towels, cups and toilet paper. Bed was clean and smelled freshly washed. Pool area was nice. Bar was nice. Had great parking in the same a lot the whole time and of course the view and the fact that the beach is a stones throw away. Would def go back. Only issue was no WiFi. read more

The elevator had been acting up, well today, 6/10/17, it is completely broke. The front desk is trying to blame the kids staying here, but there is no way. It is so outdated. Fifth floor and had to climb steps with My Mom who shouldn't have to climb steps (77 yrs). Bar closed by nine. Stuff didn't know there butts from a hole in the wall. Place was dirty.. stay away !!! This place sucks. We stayed in their penthouse and it's absolutely disgusting. They don't give you little shampoos or shower caps. You have to pay for parking. Which btw was 40$. We stayed here one night in a pinch when my mothers condo was over crowded. Biggest mistake of my life. For a whomping $277 ( which included a 4% credit card charge!), we were treated to a room that was plain gross. We arrived right after the room was "cleaned". There was a solo cup with cigarette butts on the balcony, dirty carpets, stained bed spreads and lamp shades, cracked walls and peeling paint. The carpet was filthy! It definitely wasn't vacuumed, and had dust, dirt, and debris covering it. I didn't want to sleep in the bed or walk bare foot, that's how filthy it was! read more

Don't waste your money!!! This place is nasty. Everything was damp & musty. they really should invest in a dehumidifier in every room with all the money that they have. Because they are definitely are scamming all their guest because the price you pay isn't what you're getting here. The mattress on the pull out couch was disgusting. read more
