Acorn Farm is just the nicest and most interesting place ever! Why aren't there more places like this? Created in 1985 on 4 hectares of derelict land, which had once been a tip for builder's rubble. It has since grown into an award winning visitor attraction which is home to a wide range of farm animals. The project has strong roots in the local community. There are lots of different things going on at Acorn. They are very keen about using the farm to educate children and adults. An upcoming event reflects this - Be a Farmer for the Day, 25th August 9.30am - 3pm, 8-12 year olds can help out with jobs on the farm, such as feeding chickens and ducks, collecting and sorting eggs for sale or milking a goat. You can also ride Jack or Murphy (horses) on a bank or school holiday.
It's not too late if you would like to incubate some fertilised eggs and in 20 days or so have little chicks popping out. They offer a hire an incubator service or if you have your own they can provide you with fertilised eggs. The farm shop sells free range meat, goat diary produce, free range eggs and bedding plants.
If you are in need of a cup of tea after your guided tour around the farm then the cafe open 7 days a week selling a range of daily specials, snacks and drinks might be just the stop for you! read more
