Great selection of salads. You can imagine what the leftovers look like.

The motto for this place should be: "ACME: Where every day is like Hurricane Sandy". This place, literally, looks like it was ransacked by hurricane-frightened shoppers on a daily basis. They have a MAJOR issue with their stock, mainly: 1. Keeping things in stock - Their fresh meats, produce and breads are always terribly low on stock and the quality of the foods that are left in stock are poor. 2. Variety of stock - When this was A&P, I was always amazed at the variety of brands that would be kept in such a small store - not the case at ACME. Not only are their limited brands, but the price gauging on so many of them is out of control. Don't even look at the fish in their fish case, you'll be disgusted. When this store was A&P, it was never exactly a Whole Foods, but it served it purpose fairly well. Once ACME took over, it went completely downhill. And let me be clear that this isn't a staff issue - much of the staff here was working there when it was A&P and they are often very helpful and friendly. Also, their bakery is a joke. Half of the goods are pre-packaged and the supposed in-store baked breads always seem to be stale by the afternoon. How is that possible? I should also note that on multiple occasions I've brought ice cream home only to find that the top part is completely freezer burned, telling me that either the store or ACME's logistic's networks has a difficult time keeping things cold. That, in itself is scary. It's so bad that I started taking photos of the conditions in the store (see attached). Yuck. Prediction: This place will be on the verge of going out of business once the Trader Joes opens uptown.

Bought cooked bbq chicken wings from their deli department today. Brought them home and bit into them only to realize that NONE of them were cooked all the way through!! We could have gotten very sick from these. I've has my doubts about acme in the past since their produce section is already usually terrible but this is just disgusting and we will not be coming back.

This place is absolutely horrible and should be shut down and re-opened with a new name and staff. I live just two short blocks away and tried to make this my local store. However, whatever minimal produce they might or might not have on a particular day must be used same day or it will be absolute garbage. Fish will literally be stacked on top of other fish, some organic and some not organic and all different types. Meaning your monkfish will have salmon on top of it with a piece of scallop next to it. Just some beautiful cross-contamination. The general manager can usually be found outside gathering carts or in the aisle stocking shelves. I understand one should be well-rounded in their trade however no one else seems to do anything here; not sure if it's a budgeting issue or they just simply can't find employees but it shouldn't be my problem. The only saving grace that had me come back a few more times with the pleasantries exchanged with Candita and Margarita. When the new crop of young new hires come in from Hoboken High School and surrounding areas they are absolutely useless, mute and have zero people skills. If you do decide to shop here make sure you watch every item that scans and the proper price show up, or they will take you for an expensive long ride without you knowing about it. I am done with this place. PS.. just as a side note, the second picture I have provided is a piece of information that she clearly not be left lying around. Not sure about the overhead here, but it looks like they're making enough money to rise this dump out of the ground if anybody at all cared. Good day!

Only four bunches of green bananas in stock

The produce section is always overwhelmingly disappointing. For instance, today I walked in to find no strawberries or blueberries in stock. When you walk in, you never really know what you're going to find. Either they don't carry it at all, it's gone rotten, or they're completely out. This in itself makes it difficult to make a single trip to the grocery store because half of the items on your list just aren't there. Additionally, it's really expensive. Whole Foods style pricing, but none of the quality. Today alone, on garbage bags, toilet paper, almond milk and a small package of watermelon I spent upwards of $35. Will I come again despite my 2 star rating? Yes. I live across the street and convenience is everything (plus the Trader Joe's that opened up is pretty lack luster). I'll probably have to build up the strength to lug groceries from shop rite to my apartment--or better yet, just uber. I will say the staff here are extremely helpful and very nice.

    Sums up the produce section.

We have always had a great experience shopping and seeing all the sorted items available. Always fresh, clean, well-stocked, and ultimately the staff have been wonderful. Unfortunately, today Friday 10/18/24 had an embarrassing experience in which she was accused of shoplifting. These were the circumstances. Prior to visiting the store, she stopped at the local Dollar General and purchased a few items. Upon arriving at Bazaar, the security officer witnessed my wife carrying a bag into the store and asked my wife to just knot the bag she was carrying. She complied and went on to purchase the items she was seeking. After finding what she was looking for and approaching the cashier (#9) and laying the items she was paying for the cashier immediately inquired as to why my wife was not clearing her bag of the items she arrived with. My Wife informed the cashier she came in with the items and the security officer can attest to it. The cashier (named Lucia) pursued the matter and created a scene in which my wife had to empty all the items she again entered with and provided the receipt from Dollar General proving she was not shoplifting. This caused immediate embarrassment as all in the general vicinity to now see what occurred. The Security was questioned and relayed the information my wife provided as well regarding knotting the bag she arrived with. My wife contacted me emotional and relayed what occurred. I googled the store and made contact with the manager Mr. Young Hur who was very sympathetic, kind, and extremely apologetic to his staff member's actions as well as the incident itself. Mr. Hur stated he would look into the matter and return my call with his findings, again apologizing. I immediately called my wife and informed her that I just spoke with Mr. Hur; to discover she had returned to the store as during the incident she did not receive her receipt for the items she purchased. I had her make contact with Mr. Hur who greeted my wife again apologizing. Relieved the cashier (Lucia) to discuss the matter. Ultimately The cashier apologized to my wife for the treatment she received, as well as the receipt, as well as resolved the matter through to the support by the surrounding staff who recognize my wife as a regular customer, the security officer who was kind and supportive, and Mr. Hur. The outcome was amicable, and supportive through the actions from store manager Young Hur who in our opinion showed great sympathy and kindness. A bit much yes, just felt this needed to be shared.

Of all the supermarkets that have occupied this space in the 30 years I've lived here, Lidl is by…read morefar the most frustrating to shop at! Despite a staff that seems to work hard and do their best to help customers, there's been one problem after another since this store opened, so I can only conclude that it's upper management policies that are to blame (and the poor reviews I see for other locations seems to bear that out). The corporate overlords who run Lidl apparently have a much higher regard for the mighty dollar than for their customers or their staff, which manifests in many ways: - there are almost NEVER shopping carts available, although there are often a few scattered outside the store with locked wheels (which isn't supposed to happen unless people take them beyond the parking area). When I asked Security to unlock one so I could use it, they told me the device to do that wasn't available. The main collection area for carts (which is almost always empty) was damaged a few weeks ago, and hasn't been repaired since. - the shelves are often disorganized, so it's difficult to find a particular item, even if it IS in stock (which it often ISN'T). Stock is also frequently rearranged (without signage being updated to reflect that), and the staff often don't know where things are. - the restrooms were recently locked, so you now need a clerk's permission to use one. - there are rarely enough check out lanes open, making waiting on line a necessity. - Their self-checkout area now has a security gate you need to open with your receipt in order to leave. All of these problems seem to point at understaffing, and an overemphasis on security which certainly doesn't make customers feel welcome or appreciated! The only reason I keep coming back, besides the convenience of having a big supermarket within walking distance, is the decent selection of good products, and the reasonable prices. In most other respects, this is my least favorite shopping experience. If Trader Joe was closer and had a wider selection of products, I wouldn't even bother with this place!

UPDATE (11/15/2025): -I still go here for nonperishables…read moremostly* because, based on my experience, I don't trust the deli and dairy products to not give me digestive issues. *The fruits/vegetables are good though. I try to play devil's advocate thinking it's me and not them, as I'm not sure if other shoppers have the same issues. But I also know that this is the only supermarket where I had such digestive problems. Namely, the issue would be within like an hour of eating deli turkey, hot dogs, smoked salmon, sliced deli cheese, I'd have diarrhea. Luckily it was mild enough that it didn't last for days. But I had this issue even after multiple chances over a span of many months of time. Again it was only this store, and the problem was the same which made me conclude there might be something consistently wrong with their storage / maintenance. Or maybe it's the suppliers idk. The point being, I never go here for a complete set of groceries. I go here for nonperishables because the prices are great. But always go to 1-2 other stores for perishables. Maybe the perishables here now are fine. But I don't like the anxiety feeling it's always a roll of the dice, if this time it's fine, and next time it's diarrhea. In addition.. this place has the worst management when it comes to dealing with lines. I think it's mostly excuses because again, this is the only store in the area I know where lines are this terrible. Your best best when shopping here is to go at less busy hours (check Google info). This has always been the case even since opening day. It felt like you were at a post office instead of a grocery store. The self-check out kiosks were supposed to fix this problem. However, often, multiple kiosks are not even open. The reason is probably to help watch out for theft, and I think 1 manager can only watch like 3-4 kiosks at a time, though funny enough I often don't see workers standing there. Point being.. if it's like 6pm when it's busy, logic says max out all your systems and speed them through. But here that's not the case. You have maybe 1-2 cashiers, and 3 kiosks instead of six. And there's often 1 customer that thinks scanning items is rocket science. Oh yeah, and the bathroom used to be easily accessible, and made shopping pleasant, because if I could go and wash up then I could be more relaxed shopping and have a better experience and not feel rushed. Now they require you to buy your items and request a key, and then leave your items, which is absurd. If they can't go back to the old way, then I wish they could accept a previous receipt as sufficient proof that you were a customer. If they want to require the receipt showing within the last month, then fine. But otherwise, seems like your best bet is first buy a stick of gum, then use the bathroom. If you lose the gum because someone steals it, not a big loss. But man... I sure do miss the Acme that used to be here. That store, I felt like I had the best complete shopping experience. The ultimate used to be having Subway when it was here, then shop. The entrance used to be better with massive openness. If it helps... my favorite stores in the area: Acme by Port Imperial. Acme has some crazy good ready-made food, fantastic dairy products. Whole Foods has the best yogurt. La Placita is consistently reliable in the quality of the produce. La Roca has the best butcher of any supermarket. Carniceria Latina is the best butcher, ridiculous how good it is for how cheap it is.
