In a town with Walmart (el cheapo) and Kings (el supremo), this falls in the middle and is the market of choice for most locals. Bad: Toward the lower end of the middle. A step below places like ShopRite in terms of produce quality. Others have talked about the quality of the vegetables and the meats. Check your produce carefully. Check your meat carefully and be prepared for the preparation date to be in the immediate future. Good: Then again, prices are toward the lower end of the middle. When I went today, while I didn't end up getting meat, I looked it over and everything I saw looked good. Bad: Still poorly organized aisles. Popcorn aisle is one before the chips aisle... which contains popcorn. There were multiple people working the floors. I didn't interact with them, but I did not see a pronounced lack. The place feels cleaner lately than it has in the past. Since much of my shopping is for fresh ingredients, I still don't see myself coming here much. But nothing screams "STAY AWAY". 3 stars, right down the middle. read more

Talk about lack of customer service!! Three employees? That's what the cashier told us. When we asked for one of the cashier assistants to help load the cart she said no, she shouldn't even be there. She should be at the self check out area. Strangest thing ever. Is this a NJ thing?! I was with my elderly parents who needed help. You had to buy a $4.99 bag. Didn't even have paper bags for .05 purchase. I've now learned it is a NJ thing. I was not impressed. The store did appear to be clean and orderly. Just very disappointed in the lack of training with appropriate customer service. Teach these young kids some manners, social skills and customer service. Dear Dawn M., I am writing to you to recognize Deborah (sales clerk who stepped in to help me at the Courtesy Counter with great patience) and Pharmacists Gregory, and Jason for their excellent job in helping me with my new prescriptions and vaccinations. I was having difficulty with loading up the Acme digital coupons correctly. Deborah noticed me waiting for help at the Courtesy Counter. Deborah took charge of the situation and with great courtesy and patience, walked me through the steps for all my coupons. I am forever grateful for her help. I feel that she should be recognized by Acme and others should follow suit. Greg and Jason are very hard workers. I have seen them taking a bite of a sandwich during their lunch time, while working to complete prescriptions for their customers. You have other exceptional employees (produce and dairy managers) who I will write about next time. Horribly disgruntled employees. This place has the nastiest workers I have ever encountered. Expired products all over the place. Don't even go near the dairy isle or you will get your head bitten off by man loading the shelves if you even attempt to get something off the shelf while he is working. Same with guy who loads the deli meats. Yogurt is obviously left unrefrigerated at some point because most of the time there is a layer of liquid of water in top. My husband will no longer buy it at this store. One woman who works uscan on Sunday mornings is a nightmare. She basically yells at you if you ask her a question or point out that items are ringing up incorrectly (which happens all the time here). Only nice employee is Spanish man who works in produce. The store manager could improve! The staff at the courtesy desk could improve. They are rude and act like your bothering them and if you ask for help with a digital coupon if your phone is acting up- they say "we dont help with that". And a friend of mine asked the manager a legit question and was told "I can only put one fire out at a time" and walked away with an attitude. The produce section looked like a combination of empty shelves and rotten food. When was the last time you changed the lettuce? Geeez wtf. Even expired refrigerated salad dressings. I was going to buy some sliced deli meat and fried chicken but I did not. I can only assume that old expired meats/poultry is used. Even the bakery section was depressing. Worst grocery experience in a long time. Went to this store believing seafood better than our local grocery store. At 9:00 AM seafood still covered in plastic. Girl working behind counter ignoring us. We kindly asked her to uncover it so we could plan our Mother's Day meal. She went about her business, whatever she was doing. We saw a manager at the deli counter, we approached him, he eventually uncovered it, 10 min later. We ended up buying a bag of frozen shrimp, as the selection looked sad. Since we were already in the store, we tried to pick up a few other items, however, all more expensive than ShopRite, so now I'll be making another grocery run today. Won't be back. read more

Acme gets the dubious honor of being my first 1-Star review on Yelp in the 5 years I've been reviewing places. Now, to make me step that far down takes a certain very special "perfect storm" of badness. This isn't just one thing, or one experience. First off, I have to admit I'll be back here. Why? It's the closest supermarket, and it serves the purpose of a large convenience store for me. Forgot something you need in a recipe? Quick run to acme and grab it. Just like a convenience store though, prices are very high... for the convenience, of course. But what do you get for that price? Well, you get wilted produce, a small selection across all departments, workers who couldn't give a s*** or are outright nasty (although I can't blame them, I would be the same if I had to work in such an environment), and it goes on. But that's why I gave them 2 stars. What prompted the update? I went there recently to grab some breakfast items, and had to go through 4 cartons of eggs until I found one not shattered and oozing egg white, then, when looking for some breakfast sausage, all of the displays were mottled gray nasty looking things with MOLD growing on them (see photo). The reason? No expiration dates! Why pull it from the shelf if it isn't expired yet! I did find some sausage patties that HAD an expiration date finally, but they were expiring literally the next day - I didn't feel like spending $6 on stuff on the way out, when I could have a breakfast sandwich made for cheaper at the bagel shop in the plaza. To close, this acme is fine if you need something in a pinch, and it's either a dry good, sealed well, or well preserved enough to not matter. If you do your weekly shopping here, may god have mercy on your soul. read more

NEVER BUY SEAFOOD HERE!! Absolute disappointment!!! Drive the extra ten minutes to Shoprite in Parsippany. Mind you. I am so NOT the one to complain but I'm so upset that I can't help myself. I was working in the area so decided to stop in for convenience to get scallops and shrimp for a dish I was making that evening. They had 2 different scallops. I always buy DRY scallops so that you can get a nice sear on them. The wet scallops are packed in a liquid to preserve them(and are cheaper) and no matter what you do you can't get a good sear on them. A milky white fluid is released when you cook them. So I always pay extra and get DRY scallops. These were obviously not DRY scallops. (See pic attached) Even though they were labeled and sold as DRY scallops. Now you may be saying ok. What's the big deal?? Get over it. Well I'm not over it because this wasn't the first problem of the night with their seafood. The first problem was I also bought wild caught shrimp that was also going in the dish. When my wife and I opened the bag we were hit in the face with a rotten seafood smell! Mind you I just bought them about 2 hrs earlier. The shrimp smelled like they were sitting in the bottom of a Louisiana shrimp boat un-refrigerated for at least 3 days. So bad she called Acme to let them know then they went straight into the garbage. I'm mean really? Just plain wrong! It's one thing not get a order right but to sell old nasty shrimp to customers is just wrong. People can get sick, and your scallops suck! Just saying! I never had a problem with the seafood at Shoprite and will never stray again! Buyer beware! PS. I don't work for Shoprite but do shop there regularly and at least there food is safe and fresh. Just threw out chicken, again, that was unsafe to eat. Take Acme Boonton's 'use-by' dates with a grain of salt... if not used 2-3 days ahead of the stamped date, it's trash, especially chicken. To make matters worse, meats at Acme are often overpriced per pound. Awful. read more

I don't know if it's possible to give Acme 0 stars but thats what they deserve. The produce is abysmal, the employees are miserable, meat is expired, bakery items are molding, I saw cheese pastries that were turning to slime. The produce looks like it sits for weeks. Everything is overpriced. Their advertising is total BS, so watch for what you're buying "on sale" because when you get to the register it's not true. Make sure every single item rings up as it's marked and make them go check it when one rings up wrong. Or just don't go there, save yourself the misery. Cleanest Acme I've ever been in. When you walk in all the colorful flowers and plants is a welcome greeting. Then seeing all the colorful fresh looking fruit. Makes you want to shop now. All the sales and every day sale prices you think will make the cost easier. But because everything looks so fresh & tasty you will end up spending more then you want. But you will be happy where you left your money. Now i have to say they loss a star for the crappy bags they offering. If you put more then three decent weighed items in it. They will break on you quickly. I like the carousel where they place the items after being rung up. However good clerks can bag things without using the carousel. Because some can ring & pack as they check items. All callers should be able to do this. Should be part of the register training. Some seen to be lazy and let the customer pack there things. But over all I'll be coming here more often. But will bring my own bags. read more

AFter I got all my stuff and went to check out, I noticed no discount was taken off the items, let alone be free. So I questioned the cashier, and she stated should have read the whole coupon and printed them out. She said there was nothing she could do. So I told her I don't want the items and I would like to speak to the manager. Well, she wanted my to do this and that, and she would see what she could do. Acme is an improvement from the A&P that used to occupy this location. They have a decent selection of food and their prices are fair. Cheaper than Kings (the next closest supermarket in the area). There is a Starbucks which is a nice touch. The deli employees are very nice! They always have a smile on their face and I've been there multiple times. They always check to make sure the cut is the right thickness and always offer samples. Definitely try this place out. Give it a shot. Never had a bad experience. Really don't understand why people are rating it so low. We had one issue one time when we bought food that was past its expiration date. It was a coffee creamer. We brought it back with the receipt and customer service apologized and helped us exchange it painlessly. read more

I had a co-worker's birthday coming up, so I placed an order for bagels and flowers days early. Apparently the floral lady, Lexi, didn't typically come in at 7am, but SHE DID in order to get my flower order ready! Amazing! Even though this is a Whole Foods market and has a plethora of delicious foods to choose from I was still very unsatisfied. When I first stepped foot into the building my eyes saw a big black table with cookies made from the bakery so I decided to purchase the one with the mini cookies inside. Very affordable price of 5 dollars. I get into my car and open up the container of cookies, took a bite, then spit it out like Anton Ego from Ratatouille. It was dead ass a fuckin brick. It tasted like a dry piece of clay. As I left the establishment I threw the container of dick cookies at the guy racking up the shopping carts for the night. read more

What happened to the previous (bad)reviews for this location? Hmmmm. Anyways.. Being a (against my will) resident of Boonton, I visited this location on opening day and left with empty hands. First of all, why did it take them so long to re-open this location from the former A&P and it was almost overnight for the Denville location? This store looks exactly the same. They only thing different is that they switched the location of the pharmacy and the (nasty-old, dead fly infested) bathrooms. They removed the self-check out and added more (unnecessary) registers. There also seemed to be more employees than customers in the store. I could not believe the high prices! I thought A&P was bad. I will not use this store for large shopping orders. I will stick with the Parsippany ShopRite for that. I think it will only be a matter of time that again we will see 50% off stale bakery selections, dirty un-kept bathrooms, and only one or two registers being open. read more

I go in 2 days later its all STILL THERE, It wasn't even taken off the selves. The employees are all nasly and miserable. What is a very well stocked, fairly priced store is made very difficult, particularly on Sunday mornings by a completely incompetent manager who can't staff the registers. 2 weeks in a row, with the parking lot full, we get into one of the TWO (only two) full service check-out lines, (there is a 10 Items or less line open at the service booth). I start my I-phone stop-watch just out of curiosity. Last week 15 mins to get through the line and this week 19 minutes. They finally saw the back-up, and started opening more lines, but instead of doing the courteous thing, and grabbing the next person in the LONG lines, and sending them to "we are opening line 4, you'll be next.." they just pop on a light, and the last people in line jump in, and get the spots. Seeing the store crowded, with only 2 lines open would trigger a bright manager to have another line open, knowing that the same back-up occurs weekly. It costs $20-$30 more to shop at Kings, it's worth it to avoid standing there stewing because they can't add another cashier to avoid a 20 minute wait for a customer, or should I say former customer. read more

Where to begin? Salad dressing is in 3 (!) different locations. Peanuts are located 5 aisles from the pretzels and chips and near pet supplies. I was looking for a particular organic 1/2+1/2 which was of course not located by the other similar products but further down the aisle past the Coffee Mate crap. You'll have to search in 3 or 4 different various deli and butcher meat areas for ground up breakfast sausage, etc. They have 4 convenience lanes and 3 are almost never open, 2 being blocked by shopping carts and boxes. The one customer service station is sometimes open but if so, almost always occupied by an employee doing something else besides checking out customers or involved with a complicated lottery transaction. How about some self-checkout lanes? Oh, and my chip debit card almost never works in their card readers despite working everywhere else. If it wasn't so convenient I wouldn't even shop here but I think I'll make the effort to head to Shop Rite in Parsippany or even the Wegmans. What a huge disappointment after waiting almost 1.5 years and 6 months past schedule for this place to open. read more

Very overpriced. Chips that are normally $2.50 each in Walmart & Shoprite, are $1-2 more. They had a huge selection of buy one get one free meats - but who pays $13 for a dozen chicken drumsticks? It's $4 at Shoprite. I dont like stores that dont have self checkout lanes. It's easier & faster in my opinion. They dont have a store card for sales, it comes off automatically, apparently. What I am sure is happening is that employees are being asked to work short work weeks and for low pay. They probably have no benefits and no real incentive to care. They all seem dead, like zombies. I'd like to start off by saying that the Acme store Maureen Alexandra and Dean is half of why I go there I actually live close to a different Market but I choose to drive farther because of the way they make me feel when I walk through the door might have just walked into my local grocery that knows my name knows my taste and caters to my unusual conditions which is handicapped and they are very nice very helping and they did something tonight that I won't mention but it made my quality of life much better and I need to thank all three of them for the way they make me feel and they have a Starbucks in there and I'm going to leave them an absolutely wonderful review because Starbucks people are just as nice as they are they help me they tend to be very nice very courteous very respectful and they understand my handicaps and they work around them and they wait for me when I forget things because I have a brain thing and it's just a great place to shop it's a great place to just come in and say hi I've actually went in there with lollipops and handed them out to everyone that want to one well I could certainly go on that if I do most people won't tend to believe it but believe me when I tell you I don't tell a lie I believe in honor respect and dignity and they give me all three and more I would definitely go out of my way to go there before I go any place else and quite honestly when I shop that's the only place I go I had to come back and adjust my review and with that saying this should tell everyone what kind of place this is and what kind of people they attract I came to the checkout place where Alexandria checks out and I always go to her when she's there or Jenn in this time I was in Alexandria's check out and when it came time to pay my check had just went into my account and I also deposited a couple of the checks and my disability check goes in automatically able to use it the same day because it came in the night before well this time and it's happened before and I'm going to change Banks because of it I got to the cash register and put my card in and it declined it I couldn't believe it and then I tried it again and then I pulled up my bank account on my phone and showed Alexandria that I had $1,900 and a little more in my account and it was unbelievable that I was not able to use it and it started to stress me out because that's my problem I am when I get stressed out I have heart attacks or possible heart attacks and I was saying oh my gosh I'm so embarrassed I'm so sorry and the lady beside me I kept apologizing to her and I said that exandria just check me out and let me go I will kick back in mind and you can redo it and the lady said it wasn't necessary so the powers to be came over and that's Maurren and she always does in the past and will continue to do she is so helpful I don't know who runs the store but they certainly out of give her the Kudos I give her any way they weren't able to do anything and I had $40 and I my bill was 62 dollars and all I had was the 40 as I mentioned the lady beside me said you know what I'll pay the rest of it for him and that just floored me I was humbled and the reason I came back on here to edit my review is because I forgot about this until now and this needed to be said because if this store did not attract the right people like this lady and she wouldn't give me your name you wouldn't let me go out to my truck and get a paper check and she just said Pay It Forward and with that said I'm going to pay it forward and I'm going to double what she did because that's who I am and because of the store it has allowed me to have a great evening with my life because someone paid it forward to me and that reminds me of the movie pay it forward and what that said Pay It Forward read more

I can never shop here again. I am not sure Deborah behind the customer counter is just incapable of simple math, or if she was trying to cheat me out of money, but either way I have never encountered such incompetence in my life. I gave her $156 for 78 lottery tickets. First she miscounted it and accused me of shorting her. She had a coworker recount it, and she confirmed it was $156. Deborah then tried to give me 39 tickets for my $156 instead of the 78 I was due ($2 a ticket) - she counted each single ticket as 2, got up to 78, and then said "But times 2 so this is 156". She even got the calculator out but still was getting it wrong. A coworker tried to tell her she owed me another 39 tickets, but she refused to give it to me because she claimed she would come up short. She gave me attitude, and told me I was giving her attitude. By then we were both giving each other attitude I am sure ! I finally asked for my money back, and went and got the proper number of tickets elsewhere. Then I called the night manager, who actually saw the whole thing but never got involved, and explained what happened. When the light bulb finally went off and he realized Deborah had no clue, he said he would explain it to her. I told him I would also like an apology from Deborah, and then he hung up on me.
