I had this company come out to install an electric tankless water heater which I bought. they charged me $3,459.08 for 15 hours and supplies. he had to come out a second time because of a mistake he made that blew the circuit. I was charged another 3 3/4 hours and more supplies because of their mistake . I will not be calling them again!! They charge extremely high prices and their work is not good! I've found myself needing to contact Ackermann Electric on 2 different occasions, and both times the service provided was amazing and professional! The first time I called them, we had a bank of T12 fluorescent bulbs in our laundry room fail. After talking to Ackermann, I learned that the T12s were quickly becoming obsolete, and were no longer being manufactured. The representative from Ackermann went through our options, and we decided to retrofit the laundry room and a walk-in closet with T8 LEDs. The electrician arrived about 30 minutes late after being held up on another job, but he was very professional, installing everything accurately and cleaning up when he was finished. The 2nd time I called Ackermann, power to our garage had failed completely. I checked the fuse box, but nothing had been tripped. I spoke to Evan at Ackermann (probably 3 times), and he walked me through troubleshooting the issue. He said, "I don't want to charge you for a service call if this is an easy fix." Well, he correctly identified that a GFI outlet had probably tripped, which is why none of the breakers had. He told me to unplug everything on the circuit before resetting the GFI, and then plug things in one at a time until the GFI tripped again. Then, I'd be able to identify which appliance was the culprit. That worked! It was an old refrigerator that was tripping the GFI. I can't say enough good things about Ackermann. When I called back to speak to Evan, I asked if I could mail him a check for the time we spent on the phone together. He refused to accept anything, and just said, "Hey, remember us the next time you want or need any electrical work done." You got it, Evan! read more

These are the kind of people that will see your 79 year old father having a tough time finding their vehicle in the Walmart parking lot and then drive him back and forth through the rows of cars until finding the AWOL Ford Focus. I have to believe that someone that is this selfless and thoughtful would put a great deal of care and professionalism into their work. We don't live in Mt Vernon, but if we did, we would certainly call Ackerman Electric when we needed an electrician. Thank-you for making the world a better place today! read more

While I would give the work done 5 stars, I am angry concerning the bill. The person was not even here 3 full hours...closer to 2 1/2, but I was charged for 6 hours. When I called to complain I was told I am charged for the time it takes to prepare their truck for what I would need (which I would think would already be in their truck), then the time it takes to travel here...in this case it is about an hour 15 min drive to my house, the time they are here (of course) but then they also charge you for the time it takes to drive back. This is just total baloney. If they had told me when I called to make the appointment that I would be charged for the transportation time, I would have gone with someone else closer. They had been recommended to me by my plumbing company so I felt good hiring them at the time. But as far as I can see, the extra travel prep and travel time charge is just a way to pad the bill. I am very unhappy with them, and will certainly NOT recommend them to any of my friends. Nor will I ever use them again. Before I got the bill, I would have been more than happy to recommend them. Update: I spoke with the owner of Ackermann Electric Company was only able to get him to deduct one hour of labor from the bill. Better than nothing I suppose, but still not happy overall. read more

They gave us an estimate, then billed us extra, said they needed to make changes without approval and then billed us for hours the guy was not here. Look twice, although they still have the upper hand. It's a shame businesses cannot be trusted or held to account. read more

I normally do not do reviews because I like to give people/business the benefit of the doubt. In this case, I cannot do that. If there is an option for less than one star that is what I would rate them with. However, we quickly came to realize that they did not care about us and the job and kept pushing us out for weeks at a time, leaving our house with torn apart. I have a one year old that is very active and to have furniture moved and electrical wires and outlets exposed is not acceptable, especially when they would not get back to us on when they were going to come back and finish the job. We contacted them several times to determine when they were going to be able to get back and when payments would start. They informed us that they had emergency jobs and that payment would begin when the job was complete and we knew how much the final bill would be. I find it very sad and poor customer service when the customer has to keep contacting the office about scheduling and billing. We finally received notice that they were complete and scheduling the inspection and mailed us an itemization of the charges accrued. We were fine with that, however they mailed it to a house that we previously lived at before we contacted them about the job and never provided that address. We called to complain and they said it was fixed. We had the inspection and we failed for a few different reasons. In the basement a ceiling panel fell off and exposed a nest of wiring that needed to be addressed (the company had no knowledge of this and this was not their fault), however there were open breaker slots in the breaker box with live exposed wires. We waited to hear from the office about getting an electrician out to look at the problems and were never contacted. While waiting we received a late bill on a past due account, and get this, it was sent to our previous address that we already talked to them about and they assured me was updated. So we called them and the receptionist said they never received notice that we 1. Failed the inspection and 2. That they never received our first payment and she was told to send the late bill and had no other information for me. When asked to speak with the individual that has been assisting us all along she said he was out for 2 weeks and there was nothing they could do. I left a voicemail and my husband sent an email regarding our issues. So here I am on the day that the individual I need to speak with is back in office. I called first thing this morning to get the receptionist who said that he is busy trying to get his employees out the door and was not free. When I asked when he was free she said she had no idea and could send me to his voicemail. I left a message and have not heard back from him. He however did respond to my husband's email but did not address what the really issues are and said that we were late on the bill. I would like to reiterate, we never received a bill in the first place! I would like to note both for the company's sake and any potential customers that the electrician who did the work on our house, Jasper, was very professional and a really hard worker. If I could hire him on the side I would. We have been pleased with his work. It is the scheduling, billing and lack of communication that we are very upset with. I would not recommend this company to anyone! The billing and scheduling is a disaster and we can never get anyone on the phone who knows anything. If I had known this was going to happen I would never have agreed to have them do the work on my house and would have gone else where. read more

I was hoping to work with Ackermann electric but unfortunately when we were building our new home we asked for a quote and were never given one. Don't know what happened there but after dropping off plans and calling to check on quotes...still no response. Hope the customer service has improved. read more

We had Ackerman Electric out to wire some new outlets and add a breaker. They did a great job at a price lower than everyone else we talked to. In addition, they vacuumed up any sawdust & drywall debris - EVEN UNDER THE CRAWLSPACE. I cannot say enough good things about their work. read more

I have to say that I wouldn't choose to call any other company for electrical issues in our home. Ackermann has been extremely helpful with diagnosing a problem we had with a refridgerator in our garage, coming two times with no additional charge beyond parts. They have also rewired our circuit box and installed lights, dimmers and rewired things to make them safer. Excellent work and very responsive. read more
