I honestly don't know what's taken me so long to write a review? I really like staying at Millpond because I get the authentic Nantucket island experience. The décor at Millpond is charming, a contemporary nautical theme, and the actual set up in the apartment is super cozy. There's a master bedroom and the guest bedroom can accommodate up to three, great for a friends getaway or a family trip. I have a full kitchen, fridge and television in my apartment so it really feels like home for the week! It also doesn't hurt that it's one of the most economical options in terms of vacation rentals on the island. Millpond is also conveniently located, just 1 mile from the beach and a five-minute stroll to downtown. Pretty much everything is within walking distance, but if you don't feel like exploring on foot they also have bikes that you can borrow for free on a first come first serve basis! The Saad family owns the complex, and they are extremely warm and gracious! Any time I need anything they are quick to accommodate and happy to do so. They are also true natives so don't hesitate to pick their brains for local insight. They know the best restaurants, which beaches are too crowded, best grocery stores etc. I also adore the fact that each time I stay at Millpond there's a complimentary bottle of champagne and Nantucket chocolate covered cranberries waiting for me in my apartment...so amazing! If you mention this when you are booking they will be sure to offer you the same VIP treatment. So if you're planning a vacation to the Grey Lady in the near future Millpond Inn is definitely the way to go hands down, both value and comfort wise. It's a hidden gem!

The Hungry Whale is a small b&b about a half mile from the downtown wharf area…read more Pros: Price! - this has to be the cheapest game in town -- the rooms are $100-125 a night for double occupancy. Seriously. Innkeeper - Mary Ellen is sweet, accommodating and makes a mean banana nut muffin. She also washed and cut up some fruit we bought at the market so we could have it with breakfast. Location - a short walk to restaurants, shops and the harbor. Amenities - the outdoor shower proved handy for our group after long, sweaty runs around the island. Breakfast included fresh fruit salad, OJ, coffee/tea, home baked muffins and more. Cons: Size - there are 3 guest rooms so there's not a lot of choice; however, if you booked with two other couples it's like your own private floor. Rooms - I'm a bed snob and I had a tough time sleeping on the first night. The pillows were rock hard. We did, however, have a DVD player and TV in the room so we popped in a flick to distract us from the distinctly-not-tempurpedic bed. Quirkiness - The innkeepers son seems to live on the floor above the guest rooms and would walk up and down the hall at odd hours. This would be fine except that two rooms share a bathroom and I seemed to keep getting caught in the hallway in a towel. It's also an old house in a humid climate, and as such has a bit of that old house smell which was at war with a small army of plug in air fresheners. Personally, I'd rather smell a bit of old house than 5 aggressively competing florals. For the money you could do much worse -- the hospitality was great and I'll be bringing my own pillow next time.

The location is on a very quiet little side street that feels isolated even in the midst of the summer chaos. The great part is that the Carriage House is still only a short walk to the center of Nantucket. The rooms aren't large but extremely nice and furnished in period style. They serve a pleasant breakfast in the morning and we had some of the best blueberry muffins ever. Perhaps the nicest part of our stay was getting to met the proprietors Haziel and his wife Tomomi. They were incredibly gracious and friendly and not only willing to take the time to give us directions to anything we wanted but also seemed to enjoy discussing environmental issues on the island or aspects of Nantucket history, politics, or just about anything else. This is an absolutely gorgeous place to stay but it was the hospitality of Haziel and Tomomi that made it very special.

The location couldn't be better - a block from the head of Main Street, near Murray's, yet off on a secluded and quiet side street. The bedroom was comfortable and cozy - bonus that the view from my window was of the gold dome of the Unitarian Church. As others have said, this is a great value when compared to other B&B's in the area, which are much more expensive. At Carriage, I stayed in a queen room with a private bath for approximately $50-$75 less than what a single bed with shared bath would have cost me elsewhere. One very small additional convenience that would be nice would be air conditioning, as it can get pretty hot and humid at times on the island. The lack of A/C is actually common on the island however, and I slept comfortably with the ceiling fan.
