I've been shopping at the Peterborough Achille Agway for about five years now. I like the store and they carry products hard to find in the area, but I think the attitude of the employees at the registers could improve a little bit. I find that the employees are more than happy to chat and with the foofy Peterborough townies and people they know, but more times then none, when you get to the register, it's either no dialogue at all, or they seemed pained to engage in small talk. In some cases, they'll just ignore what you're saying all together. In contrast, the woman who runs the garden center is very nice, outgoing, always smiling, and very helpful. Now that Agway has big box competition in Rindge, you would think they would take this into consideration and make sure their customer service is competitive. Agway is a great store, with many great products, but their customer service and the attitudes of some of their employees need serious improvement. read more

Never again. Called in advance to see if they had strawberry plants and was told that they have 'many varieties'. Got there and didn't see them so I asked an associate where I could find them. "I have no idea, it's my first day." Fair enough, maybe it's not in the job description to assist customers. Went to the counter and asked. "If we had them, they would be over by the vegetables". I looked for a third time and found 3 large hanging baskets of strawberry plants, one variety, no six packs. I want back in to ask about bulk pea gravel. No one available. The only helpful person happened to be the truck driver to tried to find the assistant manager for without luck. Huge waste of time. read more

I've visited this Agway multiple times over the past several months since moving back to the Monadnock region after a few years away. They are still as unfriendly and unhelpful as ever. Their prices are high, their selection is extremely limited, it's hard to find a cashier or a shopping cart. The staff 3 years ago was knowledgeable about their products but the new staff is clueless about their products. The store is messy and disorganized as well. Avoid unless you're looking for a headache. I'd give it zero stars if I could. read more

I have been going to Agway now Blue seal in Peterborough for a decade Today I went in and they had an item a bully stick 12 inch priced for 9.99 on the sticker The front lady with the blonde hair was incredibly rude. She went back to Julia the manager that I've known for a decade, and the manager made the decision that she didn't have to sell it at that price saying was a mistake & and the manager did not even come out of the office It's actually a consumer law that is priced and displayed it needs to be paid for at that price whether the store made an error with their ticketing of items which clearly they did in this case It's not about the money it's about how the cashier & manager Julia handled the situation which I know 100% not legal I have no plans to go back because they didn't honor that price. They've lost us as customers and we buy a lot of stuff there multiple times a week and have for 10 years. I find the people in this store unfriendly and not appreciative of their customers. I'm new in the area looking for the best places to shop for garden supplies. I've been in several times in the past couple of months and no one greets customers when you come in...you know, "hi, can I help you?" I spent $50 yesterday and there was no thank you... just handed me my receipt. I can go elsewhere, and from now on, and I will. The people at Cole's are always helpful and cheerful. We run a pony sanctuary and like to support our local businesses, which this Agway in Peterborough is. The people who work at Achille Agway are fantastic to us. Our needs often change but they are able to get us what we need when we need it. It's so very nice to walk into a building where there are familiar faces who know who you are as well. There is always something different to see too Personally speaking, I like the garden area as well or whatever else strikes my fancy when I am there, often times unique finds. Some are do-dads I'd expect to find at the Vermont Country Store for instance. Interesting safe pest repellants, soaps including hard to find poison ivy soap, eggs, cards, garden statues, very nice Christmas greens and bows, etc...an old fashioned farm store with eclectic choices amongst the standards. Maybe I should have known better, but Agway in Peterborough had production red pullets. I see chickens and I fall in love. It was not well lit when I chose them from about a hundred and I bought 2. Not until I got them home did I see that they had been beak clipped! I was sick. These beautiful birds where maimed....and one was unable to scoop from the ground. They would not easily survive the 'pecking order' with the rest of my flock. I took them back and was given a credit when I complained. The clerks said all the chickens they received from the supplier in Connecticut were beaked- that is all they sell. I asked why would they be OK with getting maimed birds to resell.....no answer. There is NO GOOD reason to clip beaks if chickens are properly cared for. Needless to say, I will not be going to Agway for anything in the future, although I do wish I could buy all these sweet birds and care for them properly, in spite of their beaks. The staff here are amazing! We're doing a large renovation across our yard and needed everything from dirt to raise the elevation to grass seed, trees, timber's and walkway stones. Most places we'd be lost trying to figure it all out, but the staff here walked us through everything and even delivered it. Highly recommend them. While I have many happy memories of shopping at Agway -- it was always a fun place to go with the kids and it has a wide assortment of useful products, I won't be returning. Without going into all the sordid details, I left a chainsaw there to be repaired last summer (it is now December) and never received any information about it except promises to call me back when I would call to inquire. Today I walked in, and I was admittedly already pretty irritated. But when the "manager" refused to acknowledge that there had been any kind of a customer service lapse whatsoever and was actually rather flip, to the point of being rude, I got really irritated. I was going to write a letter to the owner instead of posting this negative Yelp review (my first ever) but when I looked him up I saw that the "manager" I had talked to is also the owner. No wonder the "employees" shuffled around looking at the ground while all this was going on. A good manager could easily have defused the situation -- an apology and an acknowledgment that this was a long time to wait would have smoothed the waters enough. And then I would still be a customer, instead of someone who bears ill will towards Achille Agway and won't hesitate to share my story with others and encourage them to shop elsewhere. read more

Very disappointed!! I called agway in peterborough in January to order Pullets for a 2nd week in April delivery. I was put on the list and given the option to pay then or when I picked up Pullets. I chose to pay when picking them up. I built a coop and bought everything I needed to raise the chickens. I was glad I got on the list when I did because of all the buzz about egg prices and getting your own chickens being more popular and harder to find. I did not want to get them from chicks so this was a perfect way to do it. A week ago I called to confirm and was informed that they oversold and she was going over the list of who paid to decide where the cut off would be of those that would get Pullets and those who would get a refund. My spot on the list apparently did not count because I did not prepay. I was given the option to prepay or pay when I got them by someone and never told otherwise. They would not honor my spot on the list even though I said I would pay immediately. I realize that employees can make mistakes but as a manager I believe they should correct the employee and honor there agreement there store employees made.this is a result of improper training and poor organization on management. I have given this store a lot of business and referrals and will no longer be doing either as the are not loyal to customers!! I would do the same if I were you! I am an 81 year old Doctor of Education. I visited this store paying at the desk for four bags of BlackGold potting soil. My daughter and I were advised to pick up the soil in the yard and when we did the owner (as I found out later when making a complaint over this incident) accused my daughter of stealing. She gave him our receipt and when she did she said that he almost seemed disappointed that he had not caught her stealing. When I just called to complain and said in the future I would go to Tractor Supply for my garden needs, he said that that would be a good idea. Give this business a star????No way - nothing, not one star, negative one star and a promise that I will never go there again for anything and trust me, I have been a very good customer and do not take this experience lightly. read more

Still not accepting returns even though all other stores in the area are. We paid for a common item that was not price marked thinking it was reasonable only to find out it was heavily marked up. I preface this by stating I have been happy with them in the past, but this year, they fell short. I ordered flowers for Mother's Day, and they never made it. I called them the week before to find out where they were. They did not call me. They did call after Mother's Day to say the flowers had not made it on time. I asked that they take down the full basket already on the lamp post and leave it, and then place the new flowers on the hook. I tried contacting them to find out where the existing flowers were and was told they were left by the house. Nope. I contacted them again and never heard back. They are nowhere to be found. Mom was upset that she cannot find her original flowers, even though those they left were very pretty. Disappointing Mother's Day experience. Gives pause for next year. read more

We just had a horrible experience with this facility we spend close to 1k or more a week at this facility during the growing season and a few hundred a week in the winter months being hobby farmers . We went in last evening to inspect the the sale and told the representative we would be back in the morning to purchase 4 trees and about 20 bushes for our farm. When we arrived they were understaffed my husband was told to get the tags and they would ring us up no problem they all know us. Out of no where and without even introducing himself we later learned the owner George ran up to us to us to stop what we were doing In a very angry tone we told him we were doing what the representative had told us to do and he rushed into the store. A few minutes later they walked out with him verbally chastising the employee in front of us and he kept glaring at us as they double checked tags and scu numbers. When we went in to pay for the thousand dollar order he was glaring double and triple counting and then was basically wavering about honoring the clearance sale which he eventually did but did not honor giving us our rewards money. George should be ashamed of himself I know his father would be on how he treated a valuable and loyal customer we won't be back . To the staff of Agway you are phenomenal but George is disgusting and lacks any customer service skills and canning ladies check dates when purchasing pectin earlier this summer we brought it to the attention of george that many items were grossly expired and while we were in the store he put it back on the shelf for full sale price it expired 6 months ago gross clean your act up George !!! read more

I always support locally owned business when possible. But if you care about your animals health and well being I would RUN AWAY from Agway in Peterborough NH. My wife went in yesterday and asked for non medicated food for our baby ducklings. They sold her 28% protein Turkey Starter. My wife did not know, so when she brought it home I immediately noticed it was not the right food for ducklings- The protein content was far to high - The bag even suggested another food for ducklings. I chalked it up to them grabbing the wrong bag by accident. Well I returned it this afternoon and explained to the girl at the counter that they gave my wife the wrong food. Imagine my surprise when she told me "No, that's the right food" "That is specifically for baby ducks" I tried explaining to her that the protein content was to high and even Nutrena themselves warn against giving ducklings anything higher than 22% protein, because it can lead to angel wing. She didn't want to listen to me and instead just said "Fine I'll give you a refund" No apology for selling my wife the wrong food, no thank you for letting her know so she didn't injure anyone elses birds. Just rudeness. I ALWAYS support local Stores when possible, but when your employees are rude and sell people the wrong food due to poor training is where I draw the line. I went down the street to Tractor Supply in Rindge and was greeted nicely, the store manager even helped me pick out the perfect duckling food and was very nice and knowledgable. Terrible customer service. I used to be a regular here, for years, just because it was convenient, but was finally just fed up with bad experience after bad experience after bad experience. The last straw was being flat out ignored - the cashier looked at me, saw me, didn't ask me if I needed help (why else would I be standing at the counter staring at the employees, waiting, with nothing to purchase yet), & checked out a guy who was there after me (& behind me!!) without asking me what I needed help with or even acknowledging I was there - I was there for 10 minutes & no one acknowledged me or asked if I needed help. I walked out of the store & haven't been back since. They don't deserve our business! In past years they've been rude & could rarely answer my questions. It seems like all hate their jobs. There are plenty of better & local places to get pet food, chicks, chicken food, & plants - Coll's Garden Center in Jaffrey sells plants, hay, straw, & chicken feed, Horse & Buggy in Keene sells chicks, feed, plants, & pet food, Gracie's Grain in Peterborough sell chicken food & pet food, & The House by the Side of the Road in Wilton has an amazing selection of plants. Due to the pellet shortage in New England we were forced to drive about an hour from our home in Hinsdale to buy pellets here. Now I understand the law of supply and demand but DOUBLING your price to 8$ a bag is almost criminal. To make matters worse the pellets were awful and clogged my stove with so much ash that I had to clean it out after every half bag (working pellets allow me to do this every 2 or 3 days. Just awful to treat consumers to horrendous price gouging. I hope this review will compel folks to steer clear of this place as I hope my facebook post on this place will cause too also. I hope making a couple bucks off me causes you folks to lose a lot of customers. Completely uncalled for doubling your price like that. I checked with many other places and while they charged more during the shortage none of them came anywhere near your 50% markup. read more

Horrible customer service. I was given the gift of a rather expensive tree that started to exhibit sign of mold upon receiving it. I knew immediately that it was infected, and called right away to discuss what could be done. I expected a replacement or at least a partial refund to the gifter. Nope, Nothing. Just an "it happens" comment, and an indication that it was somehow our fault. (WE are all life-long gardeners, we know our stuff). This is not how we expect to be treated, and my extended family will no longer do business here. Too many other places to purchase, with the guarantee of full satisfaction. I don't see what the other ladies are hating on. I have shopped here for years. I would still but I moved to NM. I have never had bad service here. It does get busy, and sometimes that means you have to wait. Why would you go up to a desk and not talk to the clerk. Maybe they were like why is this creepy person staring at me? I worked at Harlows Pub and the NH liquor store in this town and it is full of cranky old bittys . At least at the liquor store they are getting their fix. When I approach a desk, I usually say something like "hello, hows it going? Could you help me with this?" I popped in recently to try to find some morning glories for my uncle. The selection was a little less than I remember. But they get new plants in throughout the season. The plants are always healthy, the staff helpful. If you have gardening questions they might actually know the answers- unlike home depot. You can bring your dog in if it is on a leash and not a dick. You can get truckloads of loam here, as well as it delivered. read more

I have two dogs and three cats and I love plants, so I am here a lot. They have a good variety of dry foods, wet foods, treats, and raw food. They have a good variety of toys for dogs and cats. I love their garden center and fairy garden collections. I have to say I have never had a bad experience with customer service. I only get animal foods and plants I know they have a lot of other things. But as for customer service up front I always have short pleasant small talk and always have been helped when asking questions. Sometimes they are really busy but I have never had to stand in line long without a manager jumping in. Not sure why everyone else is having bad customer service. They are getting some new people and I expect to have a transition period but I will be patient since I work retail and know how it can be. Let me start off saying that I try my best to buy locally and support my local businesses and that I've been purchasing dog food from Agway in Peterborough for several years. My wife went in to purchase some dog food and found the shelf empty as usual. She went to the register and was told that there should be a shipment in the following Tuesday and she left. I came in around 4:30 pm on the following Wednesday and found the shelf empty again and decided to go to the register to see if there was any in the back. When I got to the register there were two ladies in line that had been there when I first arrived. I believe one had already finished her transaction and the other was waiting to check out. The three of them were discussing another customer and some issue regarding her keys. They kept speaking of the customer in a rather derogatory manner and kept repeating the same story over and over. After waiting for several minutes I finally realized the clerk and the ladies were more interested in discussing the customer and her keys than helping me and I decided to leave. As I left I told the clerk that I tried to buy locally but was unable to due to her poor customer service behavior. I have several friends in the Peterborough area that refuse to shop at Agway based on similar experiences. Luckily Tractor Supply carries the same dog food so I will be making my purchases from them in the future. read more

This place is terrible. I'm a local and was so happy to find an Agway nearby. We visit this store regularly to buy catfood. Truly EVERY time we visit this store, it takes 15-20 min to be checked out. Whether there are long lines or not, there is no sense of urgency at Agway with getting customers served and out the door. My spouse and I were on the fence about going back after our last experience that just took forever. I ordered a topsoil delivery from them on a Friday. I was told by the person I spoke to that it would be delivered by the end of the weekend (Sunday). It never arrived. I called back Tuesday to find out what was up. They said it was too wet to be delivered, and could not give me an ETA, then rushed me off the phone... I got to thinking about it and wondered why they don't COVER the soil so they can deliver when they promise to? Or, at least not make a promise they don't follow through on? OR simply give the customer a call to let them know they weren't forgotten but they aren't doing deliveries in the rain? Something??? A week after I ordered the topsoil, and it still hadn't arrived, I called to cancel the order. I spoke to a local competitor and set up a soil delivery with them instead. They confirmed to me that Agway did not have any sense of customer service, which solidified my decision to write this review. I am not a proponent of spewing off just because I'm angry one particular day. But this has been a pattern of SLOW & unhelpful service. When I called to cancel my order, Agway could not find it. My credit card had been charged. While the cashier who answered the phone was very nice and listened to my frustrations, and offered apologies, I am angry this could not even be CANCELLED quickly. I spent about 15 min of the 20 min conversation on hold while they tried to locate my order, which they never did. She said even if she could find it, a manager would have to credit the card back. I asked why whoever answered the phone could so readily charge me, but not credit me? Finally got a call back from the manager a few hrs later, who said he could deliver it in five minutes if I wanted it. I asked why it had to come to waiting a week plus 3 calls later to have him say this? His response: "All you had to do was ask." Really? It wasn't clear to you that my placing an order for a delivery means I actually WANT a delivery? And my 3 calls asking about it didn't indicate that, either? He claimed the rain held off the delivery. If the rain was the issue, couldn't they have let me known? Or explained why that is? [I still do not get that. I am planting grass seed. Grass needs rain to grow ???] He was not at all apologetic about the fact that I was promised a delivery date that never happened, or for not contacting me to let me know that it wouldn't be delivered when they promised, OR about the fact that my order was lost that morning which kept me on hold for 20 minutes but accomplished nothing. The lost order was the icing on the cake. Clearly this order would have NEVER been delivered, even though I was charged for it. They had no record of it. Scary. Missing the point completely, the manager kept trying to convince me how great their topsoil was, in the hopes that I'd still want it. For some reason he didn't understand that he didn't need to "sell" me on anything. I bought it already. They just wouldn't deliver it, wouldn't reach out to tell me why, and then lost my order. I bought a Kingston Trailer from Achille Agway and I have had nothing but disappointment with the level of service from George Achille! He was dishonest from the beginning about the trailer and extremely abusive and belligerent when called about the items that need to be replaced on the trailer before it is safe for a horse. He spins his words and does not let the customer speak. I would say he is abusive and RUDE when speaking to clients. I would recommend NEVER EVER buying ANYTHING from any Agway's that he operates. STAY AWAY!!! VERY BAD SERVICE EXPERIENCE!!! George Achille Jr. is a fraud and will only steal your money. Read the other reviews if you don't believe me about terrible customer service. read more
