They do yearbook pics and prom pics for a lot of the schools. They took my son's senior portraits and did a fantastic job. They had my son go in and do a sitting. They took a few shots of him. Then, they pulled all the shots up on the computer and had us choose our favorites. I believe the sitting fee was $50. It's extra when you order the portrait packages or pictures a la carte. The total was about $160. Eddy is the photographer and he is superb. He has an eye for photography and the angles that bring out your best features. We told him what we wanted and it turned out better than expected. They also do individual and family portraits. If you need professional pics taken go see Eddy. read more

Ace Portrait Studio - Event Photography Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Guy was rushing me the whole time even though there was only one other person? And the photos were ass.

Eddy was so so patient with my 7 year old son, who gets really shy when taking photos. He was very kind and made sure we ended up with a photo we were happy with. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. read more

A gf wanted to take a group photo of our friends since since it had been a while. We knew ACE from back in the day school pics. Think the equipment was from back in the day. The flash or something kept breaking and equipment needed to be changed and it was so hot in their back studio, there was rope in our photos - luckily we decided to change the background but there was no way we could use any of the photos as is. They were nice, but it sounds like they may be better at restoration more than photography. read more

Eddy is very talented. I was able to schedule an appointment a week in advance and had the opportunity to be a part of the editing process with Eddy. I was able to get two headshots back to me within 1 business day, just as Eddy said he would do. I apologize for wearing a busy tshirt that didn't photograph really well, but that's where Eddy's editing skills were invaluable to smooth out the ripples that were originally there... perfectly priced for the experience and quality read more

I needed someone to help with restoring a few family photos and to help create a photo for my father's celebration of life. Admittingly, this was a very difficult time for my family and I. But I didn't know who to turn to locally. I had to pickup an item from a business next door and found Ace Portrait Studio. And in the front window is an advertisement for restoring photos. I walked in and talked to Eddy about what I needed. He was so respectful to what I needed. He took the time to explain the process, timeline, costs and options. The photos exceeded my expectations. And when my family and friends saw them at my father's service, they were astounding to the quality of the photos. Eddy and the folks at Ace Portrait Studios are wonderful. Will be using them not just for restoring photos but also for our photography needs. Thank you so much Eddy and Ace Portrait Studio! read more

Thank you Ace photography for coordinating the Senior Baseball portrait picture taking and collages for print in under a week before Senior game! Posters came out awesome!!! Thank you for helping us parents make this special for our boys! read more

Ace Photography did our 2013 Freshman/Soph Banquet a long while ago, I wrote a review back then but I also wanted to write a review on YELP. Owner did an excellent job work. Owner was also accommodating with price on the photo packages since the school was on a tight budget. Pictures given to me were of really good quality, still sitting in our living room and color and background of the group are very clear and did not fade. I would recommend ACE going forward if its still the same owner. read more

Photographers were professional and helpful. I'm satisfied with the portraits I received.

I had been storing a color portrait of my wife and I taken at an Army Reserve banquet in the early 90's which had been crumpled up and thrown into the trash. The original photographer was no longer in business so there was no way to get another copy of a photo that represented everything good about my thirty year Army career, especially the continuous support of the woman standing beside me in the picture. Several weeks ago, I happened to notice the word "restoration" in the window of Ace Portrait Studio on the way home from work. I left the damaged portrait to them and three days later had a restored portrait that is identical to the original we took thirty years earlier! Following that success, I asked Ace Portrait Studio to restore a photo of my mother taken when she graduated as the Valedictorian from Kauai High School in 1933. That photo had been severely damaged by hungry termites and like the Army portrait had been placed in storage waiting to be restored. I just picked up Mom's photo the other day and it was restored to what it likely looked like right after it was picked up from the photographer in the 1930's. One last comment - the best thing about both these restorations was the relatively low cost and the genuine efforts of Eddy and staff to create the best possible outcome! read more

David took my realtor picture for my business cards, he did great! Great pictures, reasonable price, and he touched them up right there with me. I walked out the door with a CD with the pictures ready to use them for my marketing. Thanks David! read more

Ace Portrait Studio - Event Photography Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

Yikes! Should have consulted YELP before giving this business my business! First, there is hardly any parking available, maybe 2 stalls in the back of the building. Very small lot, blink and you might miss it. Second, I feel like I was robbed in broad daylight. The photographer took the photos, and showed us different options like changing the background and retouching. He mentioned a fee, but didn't elaborate on the, "if you say yes, you are committed to paying for it, ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGING YOUR MIND ONCE YOU LEAVE THIS SEAT". Well, lesson learned, walked out of there paying over $100 for two photos. If you are thinking of taking photos, think twice before you give this business your business! read more

At first, I really wasn't looking forward to taking my portraits. Anyone who knows me, I don't really like taking pictures, unless others are in it. Located on the corner of south King Street and Pi'ikoi, directly across Jack in the Box. Parking is a HUGE hassle. If you do decide to make an appointment, I recommend making it any time before 3:30, since you can't park on King street between the hours of 3:30 - 6:30. After taking portraits through one of my friends (I might review about him later), didn't really want to go back to studios, but I was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable I felt with the photographer. The staff working in the front of the office are also very kind, and definitely have great customer service traits. Now, onto the photography, he was extremely nice, very conversational and professional, and made sure you felt comfortable enough that it could have be seen through your pictures. I sat in on a standard shoot, up to 3 different outfits, but of course you don't have to do all three. After the shoot, he uploads the pictures right then and there, and goes through the photoshopping with you, and takes you through each step so the pictures come out exactly how you would want them. The photoshop is an additional $15, but I think it is definitely worth it. They also have over 4000 background options to choose from. Proofs are also available after your session for $6 if you unsure of what pictures you want printed, and a refund will be given if you order within 7 days. read more

Awesome new owner! Eddy was very professional and delivered great service. Photos came out beautiful.

Why is this company still in business? My child took graduation photos for their senior year. We spent money on clothes, hair and extras, just to make sure that the photos looked good. We get there and check in. My child goes in and after 10 minutes, pictures are done. The photographer (or should I say, person playing with adult machine) told us to come in and check out the pictures for us to choose. Out of 37 pictures, 11 was chosen by this idiot as the best. WHY? Its because the rest of my child's pictures, had all its eyes closed. Did you press the simultaneous button, so that it took 10 pictures all at once? How can 80% of my child's picture have its eyes closed? So I asked, what can we do? This person said that he'll cut out the pictures that were open and stick it over the eyes that were closed on the "GOOD" pictures, which has an added $25 charge. He said that it'll look good once its done. After he was done, it didn't even look like my child. How unprofessional can this be? Why did I allow this to happen? Its because I did not want to embarrass my husband and child for the way I would've acted. In front of the idiot, I said how unhappy I was with the pictures and that its up to them (my husband and child) to decide. But I emphasized that this would forever be in the year book for everyone to see. I would love to say this persons name and out him. I'm amazed that he is hired by them. Please be vocal when it comes to your kids. You pay for their service and livelihood. You should be able to say whether you're unhappy with the pictures. I truly regret not speaking up at that time, but I want to warn others before they decide to go with this company. read more

This place is horrible! They were rude from the time I called and made an appointment till the time we walked out! Terrible customer service! read more

Please note: This is not a professional photography studio, it is a yearbook mill. ACE has its contracts with the schools and has no incentive towards individual customer satisfaction. Furthermore, their skill set lies in the technology (photoshop, pushing buttons on machines) NOT on the art and framing of a good portrait. I have tolerated the annual school photos with a sense of humor (kind of like one does for their driver's license), but when it came to my son's Senior Portraits, which I shelled out a decent amount for, I expected a little bit of effort on the studio's part to make me satisfied with my purchase. Not so. My recommendation: Have your child do their sitting as required for the yearbook, but spend your money on a professional photographer who cares about their craft to commemorate your Senior's milestone. read more

This photo studio is terrible. The photographer is not nice at all. He did not explain enough and force me to buy more than I need. Never going to go back. read more

Not even worth one star. Schools force you to go to them as they are the "contracted photographer". Then you are like cattle, get Em in get Em out. Basic yearbook photo not anything special. Could have done this at the school for less for the same result. If I'm going to pay that kind of money ($110), for 15 minutes, no prints just for a yearbook photo I want to go to the photographer of my choice!..I am sick to my stomach to have to pay this for something I'm not going to order or even have printed because it's not worth wasting photo paper! It was NOT a good or happy experience for a milestone moment. Photographer was nice (the 1 star), photo mediocre, office staff lacked customer service. I just want to cry. This is not what a senior photo session should be. read more

I cannot express how thankful I am for ace studios! I recently joined a real estate company and was given less than a day's notice to get head shots done. (Turns out I was the only one who rushed to get them done) Every studio I called was booked out for the week and there wasn't one freelance photographer available. With an hour to spare before my meeting where I needed my pictures on a cd and ready to turn in, I was running down king st into every possible studio. I finally came to Ace and told the guy at The front desk that I had 15 minutes to be photographed, edited and out the door! Low and behold he made it happen! Not only was he fast, efficient and patient while I was freaking out about the time; he even hooked me up with a bit of photoshop so that I looked fresh and glowy in a good way. Thank you Ace! I will definitely be back as well as recommending you to my coworkers! read more

We had Ace Photography do our high school's Freshman and Sophomore Banquet last year. They did an excellent job and were very friendly and professional. The pictures had a huge choice of background drops from outdoor scenery to Prom backdrops and also Hawaiian scenery. There was also a metallic finish to the photographs. I would definitely recommend this place to any one who wants excellent professional photography. The owner is also very easy to work with and was more than willing to help out with our event. We did not have a Freshman and Sophomore Banquet this year but will definitely be using Ace Photography again. I would also recommend this place for the best Senior Photos for high school! read more

I wish I read the reviews before coming here. Spent an arm and a leg for senior portraits that we could've just done somewhere else. No talent just computer stuff that my own child can do using photoshop. When it's time for my daughters senior year I'll make sure to do it somewhere else. read more

Pros: Relatively quick Cons: Terrible service. Won't listen to what we say. Kept charging me for services I didn't request nor did I want. Unfriendly staff. Kept insulting me. Overall terrible company. read more

They say they're not responsible for your child's actions, so they'll purposely mess up on your photo so that you pay the extra $10 for a retake at their studio... both my kids photos turned out really bad. They don't have an option to purchase a CD - so you're deemed to pay a super lot for less prints. I didn't like the way things were handled over the phone - guess they're not on the run for their money read more

I am sorry other writers seem to have had a bad experience as mine was stellar. From an advance call asking for info re: passport photos to the actual photo shoot everything went very smoothly with the office employee and photographer very kind. And for professional photos versus Longs drugstore the cost remained minimal: $15 for 2 photo copies and $19 for 4. But the best was that for someone who HATES photos of themselves I ended up actually LIKING my passport photo. In all it only took about 10 minutes when I entered till when I left with photos in hand. Thank you Ace! read more

Ace Portrait took photos for our prom this year. The pictures were very expensive, very poor quality, and the backgrounds were horrendous and looked very photoshopped. My iPhone could honestly take better quality pictures than the ones I received. Get your pictures done at House of Photography instead--high quality, reasonable prices, and better customer service. read more

Terrible service, complete ripoff. The only reason Ace survives is because they are a contracted photographer with some schools so all seniors take their yearbook photos in the same place to streamline the process. The owner decides to take advantage of this by pricing 2 photos for 15$ on may, doubles on june, triples on july then literally x5 the price on August, said he "didn't have time to dillydally with seniors not taking photos before school starts", and this pricing will get people to not procrastinate and take their photos faster, which will be a benefit to everyone. Yeah right, you're just taking advantage of people who don't have a choice. So you are expected to take your senior pics here before you are even a senior, otherwise pay 85$ (for TWO photos) + 15$ for retouch, plus taxes and "any additional fees". No thanks. read more

I was required to take senior portraits at Ace. The photographer was nice, but the person working in the front was absolutely horrible. He refused to look up when he talked to us. He was not respectful at all and it seemed as if he didn't want to be there. read more

Lesson learned here! Needed international passport photos and drove to town to Ace. I should have asked more questions on my initial call to them, as regards to parking (down a one way side street) and the cost. Arrived there after a long drive and no parking until I called them in frustration. The cost was $40 and they can only print 9 photos -not the required 2. I paid them the $40 as I needed my passport renewed. THEN, I had to come back in 2 days to pick them up. Yes, I did complain after finding out that their competitors in the next block do them for $15 and takes 15 minutes. I did call the competitors for the facts. My complain fell on deaf ears. So $40 plus 3 hours of commuting back and forth, for 2 passport pictures. Now what would anyone do with the other 7 mug shot like photos? Moral of the story here is to simple ask more questions to get the facts before you do business with anyone. read more

I remember going to Ace Portrait Studio on King Street for my Senior Photos 30 years ago! The Yee family business was courteous and efficient. We got to choose fluffy white fur or black lace... wow, I am dating myself. My mom and I always took Christmas card photos at Ace. When I was engaged to be married, I found out that my fiancés family went to Ace Portrait Studio to take their family portraits too. By that time, Mr. Yee's son Reggie was doing the wedding photography. They offered a great package and Reggie even help us with the time schedule for the wedding day! He made the day really fun and our photos were fabulous! Now Reggie uses his artistic ability with high tech computer equipment for wonderful custom photos. We continue to patronize Ace Portrait for our family and business photos. We are so happy with our son's senior photo. It has a 2 photo overlay with his school colors as a complementary back ground. We HIGHLY recommend Ace Portrait Studio. They recently moved just down the street and have a new studio (King Street just before Keeaumoku). read more
