We came to see Russian Circles, a three piece instrumental metal band from Chicago, and tickets were a bargain €14.50 - I guess due to its small size the venue only caters for lesser-known acts. Downstairs through the double sets of doors it's almost entirely dark which really set the atmosphere for the gig. The place gets packed out and views can be limited if, like us, you turn up after the supporting act has finished and are on the mezzanine level surrounding the stage. The amount of bodies down there means it gets hot and sweaty, but you can escape to their small bar for a drink. Don't be surprised if two medium-sized Kronenbourg beers cost you the same as the entry fee!

The barman told me that the tiny piece of baguette (the size my thumb) was for his real customers. I guess having a drink at his bar does not make me a "real" customer.

I was later let back in by another security staff member who tried to gaslight me into believing the door was ajar. It was not. I saw it turn in slow motion as I was wiping my blood from my crotch and these two disgusting individuals were standing there shouting at me. Only reason I went back in was because there was no way to get anywhere safely at that time and I had a flight the next day. When I had to pee next I had my camera ready but they only did that once.

In my head: EEEEEEEEKKKK!!!!!!!! From my mouth: Oh, yeah, I mean, whatever man. Cool. He played at La Machine du Moulin Rouge (Like, inside the old Moulin Rouge!!!!) Observations at La Machine du Moulin Rouge: All the bar staff wore these cute, incredibly French stripey t-shirts. The drinks were an extraordinarily reasonable 4 euros a pop. I learned about a new drink. It's called mojito a la champagne. It's a mojito, but you put the champagne where the soda water used to be. You should get it. I also learned that "tequila" is also "tequila" in French. I love the cramped, super uncomfortable smoking room at the front where you can squeeze yourself against an ungodly number of attractive Frenchmen. I was asked if I had MDMA maybe 6 times in 2 hours. French bouncers are maybe the nicest bouncers in the whole entire world. French gigs are maybe the smelliest gigs you will ever go to in your life.

Technical staffs expertise was unmatched, and security kept us all safe, while also keeping us out of the elevators. Sanitary and coat reception teams could have done better, as the toilets constantly ran out of paper towels, and 15 minutes of lunch was wasted waiting for a coat. We especially loved the curved tv screens in the Hall, and the executive and expensive feel of the interior.

That's a very uncomfortable feeling. It's not like that in Europe. Live music, even at the smallest clubs, attracts all ages and nobody gives a rip how old or young you are. Les Disquaires is non judgmental, and I had a great time listening to Nøgus, a young R & B band with a great lead singer who looked more like an accountant than a soul singer. Staff were amazingly polite and respectful. Drinks were strong and cheap. There ain't nothing fancy about Les Disquaires, but it's a rock club. Who wants fancy? Oh, there was no cover.
