We were greeted by 3 staff members (apologies I don't remember their names). I initially thought this was just a venue to smash stuff but it was explained that this is a mental health venture aimed at spiritual healing. After signing the waivers and donning our PPE, we went in. The wooden structure isn't huge so you cant get running starts or make any long over hear arm movements, but it ended being just the right amount of space to get your smash on. Initially I was caught up in the novelty of smashing things, but a point in time came where that novelty faded and I found myself tapping into an aggression and emotion I did not go there with. It wasn't until I stood there out of breath with my hands sore that I truly understood what this place was for. That session provided a space and avenue for me to truly let go, for just a little bit. If you haven't done that recently (or ever), you need to book a session to understand what im talking about. A challenge was issued to me to put in work on the water heater and I made a decent hole in it but that thing was tough. They sure don't make em like they used to.

The site was well furnished with safety gear (goggles, gloves, etc.), tools (bats, sledgehammers, etc.) and objects to smash (microwave oven, water heater, glass bottles, etc.). It was stress relieving and fun with the opportunity to damage and destroy inanimate objects in a normally civilized world. I definitely recommend if in the DMV area.

You get out and there's no signage directing you anywhere. There's a sign with rules and a box with AHS pamphlets and a rough map of the grounds, but there's zero guidance on how best to navigate the property. There was no staff around - except for a couple volunteers weeding garden beds. It didn't seem as if you could enter the beautiful house. We were left feeling a bit like crashers ambling about looking for a party to crash. The grounds out back with that staggeringly beautiful view are gorgeous, to be sure. There was a large marquee pointing to the one thing that springs to mind when you're back there - what a great place for a wedding. BUT- for an organization focused on horticulture - there is a shocking amount of green lawn in the front and back. We thought it was a golf course when we first turned in! I mean, how about some large meadows with wild flowers for pollinators??? A large pond or 3 for amphibians, birds, pollinators??? No signs anywhere educated us on the planting scheme or the individual plants, trees, shrubs, etc. This place just seemed like a really beautiful old estate -- a beautiful special event venue. Not a site for a premier horticultural society. We were disappointed. It was free, so I guess that's something.

The woman staffing the building (which is full of art for sale and partially open to the public) was helpful and kind. And the flowers, trees, bushes and landscaping were fantastic! I couldn't believe that this place was here and I never saw it in previous visits to DC/VA. Would love to bring a better camera for better photos but the iPhone had to do today. Highly recommend a couple hours spent here to calm the nerves and enjoy time in nature.

He even met me at Springfield Plaza for the drop-off, and when he drove off, I thought "I just gave my laptop to some guy off the internet in the Panda Express parking lot." No worries, because I went to his home for the pickup, and he hadn't left town with it. I've since upgraded to a Toshiba Chromebook as my primary laptop, but that 12-year-old Macbook is still alive. I called Daryl earlier this year when I was having problems with the Toshiba, and we talked over some options for bringing it in, or possibly fixing it myself. He gave me some good suggestions, and said he'd do the repair at a reasonable price if I ran into trouble. I ended up tracking down a very minor problem and taking care of it myself. I wish there were more people who are as pleasant and helpful as Daryl. I have complete confidence in him.

I gave dude an external hard drive full of thousands of travel photos into which he was to transfer…read morephotos from a failing thumb drive. First, apparently, he DELETED ALL OF THE PHOTOS I HAD ON THE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE. I hired him fix a thumb drive gone bad; lots of travel photos that I wanted to keep. I gave him an external hard drive to put recovered photos on. I already had a slew of travel photos on the external drive as well. Aside from accidentally charging more for the deposit and more for the remainder of the payment, I just realized that he deleted ALL of the photos I already had stored on my external drive. I had travel photos from Iceland, Greenland, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Italy, Greece, Colombia, Egypt, and Jordan. Gone. All gone. I'm trying to recover these files now on my own. Something I wish I did the first time. Why in the world would you just delete 10 folders holding thousands of photos? As far as I'm concerned, dude just walked into my house and set fire to all my photo albums. Worse, I have no "negatives" from which I can reprint them. Gone forever. Thanks a lot.
