Typically their work is quite good but they showed up to replace loose hot & cold water knobs in my…read morebathroom and broke the chain to the tub/shower drain when they removed the faceplate during the job. That's all well and good, it probably happens all the time, but they left the job without telling us it happened! So for over a week my tub would not hold water as there was no drain stoppage happening. Had to call them again. They came back, admitted it was their fault but still made us pay to replace it a couple days later. To this day it still won't stop draining. Even after they supposedly fixed it and made us pay. I have to use a rubber stopper disc. Didn't want to call them again and pay even more money. So I guess I just have a broken bathtub drain until I call a different company. The drain worked 100% fine before they did their original work. Had things been handled differently I would feel that the issue was resolved fairly. However, I believe that they should've paid the small replacement fee themselves considering it was their fault and they inconvenienced me by not reporting the broken drain during the original job. I also feel they could've done a better job of fixing it because it's still not the way it was before they originally broke it. I cannot recommend them based on these issues.

Mr Sweeney answered the phone and came to my house immediately when I heard a very loud noise in…read morethe bathtub when the washing machine was draining - I can only describe it as: "Glub, glub, glub." I was terrified by the thought that sewage would come pouring into the house. I know someone who had that happen and it was a nightmare. Mr. Sweeney had the most up to date equipment available. He ran a camera down through the toilet to see what was happening - and it was bad. The roots of a massive cherry tree had gone into the pipe and clogged it. When the backhoe started digging, they found a full septic tank the house was built in the 1950s. Unbelievable. It was just left there when the house was connected to the township sewer system. The full septic tank sat there for decades apparently. We had no idea when we bought this house 3 years ago - maybe the previous owner didn't know - or maybe they knew and did not disclose it. The sewer pipe zig zagged across the yard to avoid the septic tank! It's surprising this crazy mess lasted as long as it did. The tank was pumped out and broken into pieces. Mr. Sweeney did not increase the cost !! So now we have a proper sewer pipe to the township system - and the full septic tank is gone. I am so grateful to Mr. Sweeney, his son and his crew for helping us. And he is an incredibly nice guy! He briefed us every step of the way. Sweeney's Mechanical is absolutely the best !!

I contacted Hirschberg because I had used them previously for a couple of small jobs. This time I…read moreneeded a toilet fill valve replaced, a hot water faucet repaired, and possible insertion of a bidet wand on one toilet. I had the fill valve purchased new from Home Depot as I thought it would save me money to have my own new part. I also had the bidet wand. As is typical for some companies today there was a charge to come out--not to be applied towards my bill. The young man came in to see what the work was and then out to the truck to call the office on pricing. I told him/showed him, the fill valve I had purchased. He told me they will not use customer provided parts. I asked him to ask the office again about this policy , he did, and nothing changed. His pricing for these 3 jobs was over $900. I told him I wanted parts and labor to be itemized. Answer was 'we don't do that', 'we have flat fee pricing'. Between the cost and their refusal to use the new part I bought, I told him to only handle the fill valve part of the job however I insisted on an invoice with parts and labor itemized. Again, they refused to do so. I called the office to speak to the service manager, and he again refused to comply with my request, again repeated the flat fee pricing. In the end I got no-where. I asked to see the box the new fill valve came in--no surprise--same company part as what I had purchased. Cost for the 11 minutes max it took him to replace the part? $373.12 to include the $79. arrival charge. Did not get an itemized bill. What are they hiding? Knowing cost of parts and cost of labor is a routine and reasonable request of a customer, and many companies automatically provide this information without being asked. Addendum: I had the other 2 parts of the initial job completed by another company for $265.00 and automatically received an itemized bill. Note that even combining the two companies charges, the total is not close to exceeding $900 which Hirschberg quoted when they job costed initially.
