I just had the director of Access Careers in Hempstead, Mini, hang up in my face when I called to complain about the conditions of the school. I've already been a CNA for years and was looking to recertify. This is probably a waste of time, it usually is for bad businesses that don't want to spend any money, just mill out people and make money. If you're going to sign up for Access Careers in Hempstead, here's a couple of things to look out for before you make the commitment and spend the money. The population of students in my class mostly worked during the day and came to school at night. If you are one of these people trying to save money to scrape together the money to attend this school they accommodate you as such, like you're poor and you're lucky to be there. You will receive such amenities as not having the lab supplies you need every time you have to go in there. Now the director Mini, turned it on the teacher, which true it would have been helpful, but, it was obvious that she had never checked in with her operation like a director/ supervisor is supposed to. That's 101 supervisor stuff. It's Mini's school. She blamed one of the only good employees she had for everything, my teacher one of them. The classrooms and bathrooms are dirty, the desks cheap. They're those metal fold up chairs for picnics with small writing surface over one of the arms. Your uniform will be a plastic shower curtain with the Access insignia. The building smells disgusting. There's no sanitary receptacles in the bathroom, but the toilets will overflow if you drop anything in there. There is a letter in all caps written to students to keep it clean with picture of a clean toilet bowl next to another toilet bowl with urine in it at flies swarming around it. Charming. The director told me she uses that bathroom also, she doesn't seem to think it's gross or smells bad. How? She proceeded to ask me why I'm just opening my mouth up about it now. Blaming me now. I wanted to finish the six week program and move on, they had my money. I'm glad I didn't speak up, it was in my best interest, the response I received today was deflective and defensive . Many things need to be fixed. I called the director to give my feedback, but, she didn't take to it well, hanging up on me. I think you have right to know that stuff now. I think you should know she is aware of the unacceptable state of her school. If she does something about it, good. She is aware though, so if you have a complaint don't let her tell you it's the first time hearing it and she's just shocked to death that no one told her. Don't ask Leani for anything, she's mad you asked. Also say goodnight to her when she says goodnight to you or she'll come back and reprimand you like a child whether you're mid chew or not. Don't ask Mini for anything either, she will not take responsibility for rigged together operation Access is. Like I said I've been a CNA, I paid 300 dollars less, and it was a great experience. My school was clean and everything. The school is the way it is because of choices. The trashes in the classrooms were always overflowing, and a lot of times it smelled and it smelled up the classroom. I used to just take it out, the garbage pails smelled so gross. Ultimately, everything was everyone else's fault except Mini's, the director. She didn't notice the classrooms were dirty. It's the cleaning crew's fault. I was there for 6 weeks, the lack of noticing how gross the school was was there way before I got there. The labs not having the materials they needed, not a lot of noticing going on until I just brought it up apparently. Today, today was the first time the dirty school will be noticed as being dirty, the bathrooms will be noticed perhaps as being absolutely disgusting today. Mini never noticed before. She blamed her cleaning crew. The teacher was asking office workers for supplies, she was unaware until today. She blamed the teacher. She blamed me for not doing all the noticing she should have been doing herself. It's her school. I've been a boss of huge projects, in charge of 40 plus people. Their success was my success. You have to take responsibility for what goes on under your supervision and do your best to make it better, not keep it status quo. I was fond of my classmates, they all worked hard and were trying to better themselves. My teacher Mrs. Herbert had been nurse for many years. I was a CNA for many years, she did her best to try and emphasize the importance of maintaining the dignity of each resident and to empower us to do our best and take care of ourselves. Honestly, I'm furious. If you can find a better school with better conditions with people who take responsibility for their short comings and make changes. Do it. There are good schools, Access Careers in Hempstead is trash. Good luck everyone, you deserve to be treated well, no matter what tax bracket you're in. read more

I told my CNA here, and to be honest, the experience was so so and very annoying. The teacher I had did not explain the skills nor the material for the course very well. I had to go home and re teach myself. The overall experience was very stressful. Due to the fact of this, one bad experience I decided to give the school another try when trying for my EKG and phlebotomy and that was a disaster too. The lack of communication between the teachers'and students' and administration's staff was horrible. Multiple days were missed, and miscommunication about makeup days was floating around cause confusion everywhere. Classes were way behind schedule. I do feel like if I am paying so much money. A solid schedule and attitude from staff should be provided. read more

I enjoyed going to Access Careers, had the privilege of having a great instructor Ms. Danielle Maness-Williams for PBT(Phlebotomy Technician) class. Full interaction of well described and dynamic comm and experience. The school part of administration will work with you if you aren't eligible for financial aid to make a payment plan of a required amount. I did not get a grade from a teacher that was acceptable or a test that even made any sense out of the three we took, our diplomas were not given to us for nearly 4 weeks, and they lost many of the girls transcripts we could not get jobs, and we did not have enough sticks in phlebotomy or not taught the hand in order to be able to apply for a job or take the state exam. I had to threaten an attorney in order to be able to finally get my diploma which I paid for in full and earned properly my grades as well. The teacher never extended the grades to us afterwords, the school is disorganized and backwards. Please save your money! Their accreditation is going to go out the window ASAP, if this is taken down for any reason, it is cross posted and spoken to the state and Albany. Buyer beware!!!!! Look elsewhere Ms. Tracy holds a personal grudge for those she does not like and then asks for positive reviews and continued sign ups for classes she has no business teaching. She hands out EKG test...when you're in a phlebotomy class not OK.... When you pay money you expect results, no matter how disorganized or who is let go or what teachers they decide to hire it's their business to take care of the school itself plus at night the vending machines are turned off it's dark and there are no places there to make sure and protect your safety. The phlebotomy class that was promised did not deliver 12 hours because the teacher could not get there in the time that was allotted so we missed two hours of every week without any refunding, which is a total of 12 hours that are lost of a 60 hour class. All of these things are dangerous when you put somebody out in the world of the medical field and don't eat some properly had we had those 12 hour she would've been able to teach us the hand and give us a proper amount of education we paid for upfront! The evening folks are forgotten completely again buyer beware!!!!! read more

I graduated from the CNA program in August of 2017 while I was about to start my senior year of college in a non nursing degree. I started NYUs accelerated BSN program in September! Thanks to obtaining my CNA certificate from this program, it boosted my chances of getting into the program at NYU. Also I had a head start on many of the skills and clinical experiences at NYU because I became a CNA at access careers. I graduate next December with my BSN. My instructors at access careers taught me many things that I was able to take with me into NYUs BSN program. The faculty also is very helpful and help you during and after the program at access careers. Took the CNA class here, wasn't worth the money. They market getting jobs at rates that nobody in my class was able to find, they lied about administrative things during classes to get students to just do what they say without thinking, and half the classes my teacher just didn't show up. The class sat there for over an hour before we were just sent home and then never offered time to make up hours; in addition, we were then told we had to find time at the end of the course to make up those hours during other classes when many of us had work causing a major delay in finishing the class. Favored students were prioritized in getting clinical rotations right away in nicer facilities and others didn't get them until months after the class concluded. There was also no information about the clinical rotations given at all, no expectations, contact numbers, hours, rules, nothing, barely an address. I don't recommend the class, it's overpriced for what it does. read more

My experience with Access Careers was okay... the atmosphere was good, but I felt like I didn't learn for my money's worth. Everything was rushed and the whole class basically failed and we were all given 10 points so the teacher didn't look bad. I never learned about specimen processing for my Phlebotomy tech class. I got my certification in 2016 and till this day I have gotten no help from this school finding a job. It was an okay experience but I definitely feel like it was a scam. read more

I completed the medical billing and coding class here and it was not worth the money. First of all, the computers provided barely worked even though they were necessary to complete the course. Secondly, some of the staff members were very rude and you could tell the woman who runs the facility (Minnie), only cares about money. They are quick to remind you when you are late on payments but do not respond to concerns about the program. I would say save your money and get your certification somewhere else. read more

it started with Josh at Access Careers in Hempstead. He gently suggested that I just do it already. He was right. School was an easy process from beginning to end. I met some wonderful people at Access. The support staff is amazing. I had a terrible time with the MA program. I've never seen a school that is THIS DISORGANIZED. Most schools have Canvas or Blackboard to keep students updated. There have been constant changes in instructors, a week out of nowhere where we unexpectedly have no classes, exams out of nowhere, and constant changes in assignment dates. In addition to uploading assignments through email and not through official submission systems e.g. Canvas or Blackboard. A situation that angers me the most is that I signed up for the DAY program for the MA program there have been 2 weeks where I must attend lab sessions at NIGHT when there should be DAY time instructors to teach lab skills. I had to shift my schedule just to accommodate the night lab skills when I should have been going through the DAY skills. For graduation, you should be able to graduate at the time you're given. I started the MA program on 9/20/21 and should have graduated on 4/28/22. Instead, I graduated about 2-3 weeks after. I had to extend my housing, explain the situation to my landlord, and got financially burdened. I shouldn't have to be delayed from my graduation due to the poor disorganization of the school where they couldn't schedule me an internship in a timely manner. There is also a LACK OF COMMUNICATION. In two instances, there was a week when we scheduled to have class and they never bothered to update me about the sudden cancellation of the entire week. Instead, I had to learn this through a classmate. Additionally, there were times when my class and I needed an access code for Zoom, and the codes provided did not work. We then call the school and ask them for the access code. When the code did work, we found ourselves without an instructor. We called the school about this issue, and they were annoyed and didn't want to be bothered. They kept me and my classmates out of the loop. Whenever I had an important matter to address to Ms. Mini+ Mr. Harry, the owners of both campuses, I was told they were on vacation or had a family emergency. The school does not care about its students and only collects money and tuition. I wouldn't be surprised that they will just keep getting away with it. Another incident that truly angers me is my first internship. For internships, 300 hours of clinical hours are needed to graduate. Venus is the coordinator for internships and had to pick the first internship. Not only was I delayed in starting my internship, but I was also robbed at the site. The school sent me to a place to get robbed. I asked the owners of the schools if they could help me financially with the situation because I needed to pay for tuition. Unfortunately, I never heard anything from them whether I tried via email or the phone. The typical response is, "they're on a family emergency or family vacation." It really appalls me that they would ignore a student's concerns when I was robbed at the place where I should have been learning. During my first internship, I was exploited and abused by the doctor+supervisor ever since the robbery incident by one of their MAs. Both the doctor+supervisor tried to avoid it by giving me problems for me to leave ASAP from their practice. After explaining the situation to Venus she told me I needed to find another site on my own. I am disappointed by the lack of care due to the school's policy of not helping students find another internship when I wasn't at fault for being robbed. My other classmates had similar problems to this when they picked out their first internship site and Venus wouldn't allow them to. And there were also classmates that had to pick out their internship on their own. This shows a lack of care for students because they should be allowed to pick their own site that is within distance, specialty, and hours available that they want. Oftentimes, internships are unpaid. There are some other MA programs from other schools that require 160 hours. 300 hours seems to be exploitative enough for free labor. There have been instances where some students have gotten paid internships if they search for them on their own. read more

Access Careers was an amazing experience. I was in the medical assistant program, I did plenty of hands on experience like doing vitals, EKG and phlebotomy just to name a few. My teacher was Mr.Delano and he helps so much especially on topics you might be have trouble in. Ms. Mini the director and Venus who's in charge of the medical assistant program was there every step of the way, from the very beginning to the end and make sure everything runs smoothly. I also did a 300hrs externship at a medical office and I gain so much experience and got hired right after with them. The whole staff was just completely amazing, great school if you want to be a medical assistant. Dont think, just do it you wont regret it! read more

I would definitely recommend this school. I really enjoyed my Phlebotomy class with Prof Johnson. I took the course over the summer and was a little nervous because I was unsure how class would be under the Covid guidelines. The school took all the measures needed for our safety as well as making sure that we still got the skills needed. Prof Johnson took her time to teach our class the skills needed to be great phlebotomists. Ms. Farisa was the lecture professor and she was also wonderful making lectures concise and straightforward. I took the phlebotomy class which at first seemed straight forward like it followed all state teachings and guidelines, however when it came time to take the test many of the things that were taught were NOT on the test. Many of the things my teacher said I didn't need to worry about were exactly what I needed to focus on. Things like the aseptic method were not taught, which cleanser you should use for different patients, what test tubes need to shielded from light, how long you should chill a specimen or put it in the centrifuge. The people working within were cool and organized however their curriculum did NOT match up to the state test, in hindsight I feel like I wasted over a thousand dollars and got a half-a**ed RUSHED crash course education on phlebotomy. If you want a job in this field please DO NOT go here, if you want a rushed quick quick type of thing then by all means this is the place. read more

I completed the EKG class this past June. I have a bachelors degree and feel that I'm a dedicated student. After applying to Northwell Health and taking their EKG assessment (or rather I say "attempting" to complete it) I quickly realized that I was very unprepared despite studying for hours before the assessment. The class itself had a great atmosphere and encouraged studying for improvement, but I personally feel like the teacher taught to the national exam and nothing more. Employers look to see if you can interpret strips and I do not think nearly enough time is spent on that. Of course, five weeks for a class is never really "enough" time to master anything, but I really do feel that interpreting strips should be a more thorough process in class. Hopefully I can find a job soon, I'm a little worried to say the least. read more

Access Careers was an amazing start to my career in the health field! The CNA class I took made me more than prepared to take the state test. After passing the state test I began working in nursing homes. My experience now has put me ahead in nursing school, since I now know some skills required. Great place to take the CNA class and get your certification. I just passed my NY State exam! The teachers are helpful as well as the staff. I feel like it could've been a little more hands-on. SOME of the "teachers" are something else though. You can either get a really good one that's all about the program or you get a dud and you end up having to teach yourself everything anyway.
