The house is technically 4…read morebedrooms and 1 bath, but we only used the upstairs (1K 1Q) - the first floor has two small rooms with a twin in each; the bathroom is upstairs. Highlights: the kitchen is fully (and may I add perfectly) stocked to actually cook dinner in - lobster pots and crackers, pots, pans, knives, everything. They even provide the dish soap and paper towels...something we never get when we travel in the south. There is a washer dryer (again, there is soap) in the basement. Next, there are tons of books, DVDs, an XBox and even toys/books for little ones! Since we were flying this was key. There is also a crib, high chair and stroller. Other rentals up here don't offer that! The deck is great - lots of seating and a nice view of the harbor. They have some adirondack chairs down by the shore and a fire pit. You can walk to the marina (buy lobster from a lobsterman!) or into town in just a few minutes. Oh and there is AC...again many places up here don't have it and you never know if it will be 95 or 75 up here in summer...we've had both! It's about 25- minutes to get into Acadia National Park, which may seem far. But the town of Southwest Harbor is so quaint I'm glad we stayed here.

There's a split for both AC & heat, but with the flaps up we didn't need either. There's dishes, silverware, pots & pans, placemats...everything you'd need to enjoy a meal if you didn't want to venture into crowded and tourist-packed Bar Harbor. Their guest book was full of recommendations from previous guests which I read through the first night. It was fun seeing who visited where and there are LOTS of options in the area. No complaints other than the inconsideration of guests in the neighboring yurts who chose to ignore the multiple signs indicating the quiet hours. The owners, anticipating this, left ear plugs and a noise machine. The internet got a little wonky a few times, but being here was a good reason to get off the grid entirely so it was not an issue. They have a lending building with all sorts of books and left over items from others' stays. Overall, this was a venue which exceeded our expectations. For stays longer than a week I'd leave a couple more towels as they take a little longer to dry overnight, but otherwise, SUPER AWESOME stay. A full five stars!!

Never having been to Mount Desert Island before, I fell in love with our quiet "downtown" of Southwest Harbor which is an easy 3-minute walk away. We stayed in the A-frame, which has two rooms, a sleeping loft and a wonderfully cozy woodstove. I greatly appreciated that there was no garish TV staring at you. The wifi is a little uneven, but I sympathize since we have the same problems at home. Our cottage literally felt like home, with its green-friendly systems for compost and recycling, handy wood piles, and even a delightful tray of fresh-growing arugula lettuce on the deck which the owner invited us to help ourselves to. The place was spotlessly clean. There are little homey touches all over the properties showing the owner's care for the place. I can't imagine coming back to MDI without booking a stay at one of these cottages.

Other than that, this place is amazing and we'll come back and recomend it to friends and families. P.S. Bonus to the front row seat to the Harbor's 4th of July firework! The sunset and sunrise views are magical here.

It was the most luxurious place I'd ever stayed! Tucked off the main street in Southwest Harbor, this is a quiet little spot with well maintained grounds and amazingly organized cabins. Top notch bed and pillows. It's about a twenty minute drive to Bar Harbor, but it's easy and quick once you get the feeling of the layout. The "office" has extra swimming towels, movies, and books about Acadia. It's really awesome how the owners, Tom and Vickie, care about their customers. A downside was barely seeing the owners! We went in during their office hours but didn't see them. We received an invoice, and I was sad to not chat within our 48 hours of staying there. The 10am check out also was pretty brutal. You also clean your own cabin, which is okay, but we made breakfast and tea- doing dishes while packing up and paying the expensive price before 10? That was not great. It's pricey here, but it's so luxurious and beautiful, it's worth the splurge.
