i got wrongl accused of stealing something that I clearly didn't I got out of the bathroom from taking a shit and had 3 employees sitting their waiting for me and trying to interrogate me for som a didn't do then they were saying how my face was red well that was because I was taking a poop. Always a great variety of sporting equipment. My husband finds what he needs in store 9 times out of 10, but getting an associate to help can sometimes be a chore. The store is always clean, and so are the restrooms. read more

Recipient of a gift card for my birthday!!! Have shopped in B'ham for some great deals on golf balls. So Im excited to be here, especially with a gift card. Upon gracing the door things start downhill. Few employees to help and only one check out line. Golfing supplies have gone from few and far between to next to none. But did find a good deal on a retreiver in a box in the corner!!! Rest rooms a mess. Came close to picking up for them ....but nahhh. One cashier still checking people out. I am not sure what the disconnect is in this store. Your sole job is RETAIL. You'd think that would be the focus. Hardly the case here. None of the employees are interested in selling anything but conversations with each other. Customer service is non existent and the store itself is a mess. Items laying all over the floors from the shelves. If there was a negative star option, that would be your official rating. Close it up because nobody cares. I just reviewed some of the other posts. Patrons have been complaining about the exact instances since 2010. Here we are 10 years later doing the same thing and expecting different results. INSANITY! I buy a lot of ammunition here. They always seem to have what I need for the most part. Last summer we bought a couple of Kayaks and a canoe. Their prices were better than Field and Stream/Dick's Sporting Goods. Academy is still a full supporter of the 2nd amendment whereas Dick's has lost my business forever. Did business with Academy for many years (through Chris at store #0065) as they broke the rules to give me gift cards in exchange for their sponsorship. A few weeks ago i called Andy (at the same store) and he said Academy was no longer interested. I told him I was willing to pay $1000 and they still stated that they wouldn't approve, denying me the purchase. Furthermore when I said Chris followed through with a set amount for prior tournaments. Chris told Andy that it was way below the amount that it was generally set. Andy is dishonest and not a business man. read more

It was the Sunday before the 4th of July. My sister purchased a grill with install. I picked it up for her at the location on Airport Blvd near Schillinger. During loading, the workers damaged the inside of my 2022 Cadillac XT6. I've only had it for 3 months. I filed a claim with Academy and received a call today saying the claim was denied because the worker said "my truck was already damaged". I was devastated by the call and denial, not just because of the money ($600) but because Academy did not take accountability. They didn't think enough of me as a customer to do the right thing. I wonder why? As I read other reviews from African Americans, I get the idea that we are being racially profiled and treated accordingly. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT ACADEMY EVER AGAIN. I might just be one customer, but one can turn into thousands. If you continue to treat your customers this way, especially over a minute amount of money like $600, you will be out of business soon. read more

Very Disappointed with Academy Sports. Hours state 8a to 9:30 or 10p. I Can't even get a manager on the phone. Currently on hold. Love this store...went to the Foley store and I asked where all the Saints stuff is bc i only a tiny area where the Mobile store had a whole wall. He told me " this isn't really Saints territory"... Asked him where he was from, he said Foley... Told him he must be dreaming bc Saints fans are all over here. He told me i was wrong and that is mostly a Mobile thing..... Someone needs to open a big sporting good store in Mobile to give them some competition. It wouldn't be hard. How many times have I been rubbernecking to get help, or on my very tippy toes trying to reach a particular shoe size while 2 -3 employees stand there socializing not even offering to assist? Too many times to count! Sometimes they are the only place I know where to get some sporting equipment otherwise I wouldn't bother. I don't like Academy as much as Dick's Sporting Goods but I don't have many choices here in Mobile...this is about all we have.

While the store is kept clean and tidy for the MOST part, the cashiers usually tend to be more interested in talking to one another than in saying "hello" or "have a nice day." That actually says a lot to your customers about a place and the sort of people that you hire. Either replace current checkers with some who have a modicum of sense, or start up a training day and get the ones you have now properly schooled. Checkers in question worked yesterday at around 2 PM (2/28/2016) - one at first check out closest to the door and another female employee at the customer service desk....yapping back and forth to each other instead of being considerate. read more
