They had my order ready when I got there but I had no instructions of what to do once the order was ready. You pull into the pickup spot and call them, no need to go inside. read more

Always a great variety of sporting equipment. My husband finds what he needs in store 9 times out of 10, but getting an associate to help can sometimes be a chore. The store is always clean, and so are the restrooms. read more

Recipient of a gift card for my birthday!!! Have shopped in B'ham for some great deals on golf balls. So Im excited to be here, especially with a gift card. Upon gracing the door things start downhill. Few employees to help and only one check out line. Golfing supplies have gone from few and far between to next to none. But did find a good deal on a retreiver in a box in the corner!!! Rest rooms a mess. Came close to picking up for them ....but nahhh. One cashier still checking people out. Finally get to register and they open another. All threw the store they are shrinking inventory. Getting ready to fold??? Lowering inventory due to month end. I gotta find how to spend my gift card before its too late. read more

Everything is in order the store very clean they just out of ammunition. We are in some extraordinary times we all need to pull together. We should take a page out of Frances book and shut down to keep the virus from expanding. read more

I am not sure what the disconnect is in this store. Your sole job is RETAIL. You'd think that would be the focus. Hardly the case here. None of the employees are interested in selling anything but conversations with each other. Customer service is non existent and the store itself is a mess. Items laying all over the floors from the shelves. If there was a negative star option, that would be your official rating. Close it up because nobody cares. I just reviewed some of the other posts. Patrons have been complaining about the exact instances since 2010. Here we are 10 years later doing the same thing and expecting different results. INSANITY! Why didn't I read the reviews before I entered the building. Shame on me! read more

I buy a lot of ammunition here. They always seem to have what I need for the most part. Last summer we bought a couple of Kayaks and a canoe. Their prices were better than Field and Stream/Dick's Sporting Goods. Academy is still a full supporter of the 2nd amendment whereas Dick's has lost my business forever. My biggest problem with this location is sometimes the cashiers can be a little on the unfriendly side. Not really rude, but not really nice either. read more

Normally I enjoy shopping at Academy but getting some help was a hunt and the most disappointing thing was them tagging things with the wrong price. So I was sticker shocked when I was ready to pay for all my items. Purchased any way because I needed it. Over all nice location but this isn't my first time experiencing this here. Just be aware. read more

Academy Sports + Outdoors - Wrong price with item - Shoe Stores Near Me - Mobile, Alabama

Did business with Academy for many years (through Chris at store #0065) as they broke the rules to give me gift cards in exchange for their sponsorship. A few weeks ago i called Andy (at the same store) and he said Academy was no longer interested. I told him I was willing to pay $1000 and they still stated that they wouldn't approve, denying me the purchase. Furthermore when I said Chris followed through with a set amount for prior tournaments. Chris told Andy that it was way below the amount that it was generally set. Andy is dishonest and not a business man. read more

It was the Sunday before the 4th of July. My sister purchased a grill with install. I picked it up for her at the location on Airport Blvd near Schillinger. During loading, the workers damaged the inside of my 2022 Cadillac XT6. I've only had it for 3 months. I filed a claim with Academy and received a call today saying the claim was denied because the worker said "my truck was already damaged". I was devastated by the call and denial, not just because of the money ($600) but because Academy did not take accountability. They didn't think enough of me as a customer to do the right thing. I wonder why? As I read other reviews from African Americans, I get the idea that we are being racially profiled and treated accordingly. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT ACADEMY EVER AGAIN. I might just be one customer, but one can turn into thousands. If you continue to treat your customers this way, especially over a minute amount of money like $600, you will be out of business soon. read more

Had to make a return today. Easy process. Quick service. Love the deals and the customer service.

Walked In the store today with three employees right near the door with no greeting. I smiled but still nothing so when I left I ignored all of them. There was a floor staff who was very helpful and polite near the shoes read more

Got there at opening. Picked up 2 packs of hooks and a pack of gulp. First on line at the register and it took her 5 minutes to ring up my stuuf and put it in a bag. Im not exaggerating. If you dont like or want to do you job, do us all a favor and quit read more

Long story made short. They were supposed to order an item for me, but some one dropped the ball and the item was never ordered. One of the management team, Billy, handled the problem quickly and to my satisfaction. Would have been 5 stars had the staff just done what they said they would do to begin with. read more

I stopped shopping at this store. The Employees are rude, Do not want you bothering them. And management clearly does not care.

Very Disappointed with Academy Sports. Hours state 8a to 9:30 or 10p. I Can't even get a manager on the phone. Currently on hold. I was at AS at 8:05 only to find out, they OPEN at 9a... not what Yelps hours state. So frustrating. Can someone at AS at Airport BlvD PLEASE FIX THE HOURS. I've been holding for 20 minutes for a dang manager.. WHAT TIME DO THEY OPEN ON SUNDAY? NOT A FAN of AS but I need to swing by there. GRRRRRRR read more

Rude, negligent, and just didn't seem like they didn't want to be bothered. Wrong up wrong price, had to go back and take picture of sale sign and still didn't change the price. Not getting my business after this. read more

Love this store...went to the Foley store and I asked where all the Saints stuff is bc i only a tiny area where the Mobile store had a whole wall. He told me " this isn't really Saints territory"... Asked him where he was from, he said Foley... Told him he must be dreaming bc Saints fans are all over here. He told me i was wrong and that is mostly a Mobile thing..... I was irate to say the least. Drove there from Daphne bc i wanted to keep my money in Baldwin county. I will go over the the Airport store from now on. They have ordered stuff and shipped it to my house read more

Visited this morning...no help with service, questions, despite what seems like a plethora of people. Someone should tell them to help the customers. Left without my questions answered re exercise bicycles. I know why they are failing. They have forgotten they are a store and they need to provide the minimum courtesy that customers will demand. This store badly needs a management change or it will close. read more

Wow...why even shop here? Terrible customer service and bare shelves. Avoid at all costs.

Someone needs to open a big sporting good store in Mobile to give them some competition. It wouldn't be hard. How many times have I been rubbernecking to get help, or on my very tippy toes trying to reach a particular shoe size while 2 -3 employees stand there socializing not even offering to assist? Too many times to count! Sometimes they are the only place I know where to get some sporting equipment otherwise I wouldn't bother. I don't play sports - never have- but my children do, and it would be nice to have a customer service oriented sporting good store that could make recommendations before I spend money on these things. read more

I don't like Academy as much as Dick's Sporting Goods but I don't have many choices here in Mobile...this is about all we have.

While the store is kept clean and tidy for the MOST part, the cashiers usually tend to be more interested in talking to one another than in saying "hello" or "have a nice day." That actually says a lot to your customers about a place and the sort of people that you hire. Either replace current checkers with some who have a modicum of sense, or start up a training day and get the ones you have now properly schooled. Checkers in question worked yesterday at around 2 PM (2/28/2016) - one at first check out closest to the door and another female employee at the customer service desk....yapping back and forth to each other instead of being considerate. read more

Horrible service, waited 45 min for someone to cut arrows for me, then I was told no one would be coming in to cut them after 5 people including a manager said someone would be in shortly to do it. Horrible service. read more
