Please reach back out as I was promised I would be contacted last week; yet never occurred. This is in reference to the attendance policy and Being ALLOWED to attend PTSD Groups and Mental Health Therapy under the Americans With Disabilities Act. Your advisor Anthony Keian has stated WE ARE NOT Allowed to do so due to a 90% attendance requirement. I don't know if he speaks for the college or if the college will verify that we veterans; under veteran funding; are being denied access to our mental health care in accordance to an attendance policy. Please contact me back asap so all of the veterans I am sending your way can know if we should attend this boot camp or if we have to go elsewhere due to being unable to attend our lengthy far out scheduled appointments!?! Some NEED these appointments because if one is missed than they might not be here on this earth the day after...This shouldn't be hard to accommodate. Update: The school has gotten back to me Veteran affairs medical appointments are allowed attendance though it is strongly encouraged to schedule later in the afternoon appointments or prior to beginning of your course so material is not missed!

I went to the School of Visual Concepts for a day-long workplace training on content strategy. I'd…read morenever been here before, but would definitely go again! The school is located in a busy, high-traffic part of South Lake Union. There's a paid parking lot across the street, but it was also easy to get to by bus. The building is fairly large, with several classrooms and conference rooms. It's pretty minimalist, but the letterpresses and type trays are cool and fun to look at, and the hallways display interesting student work and large-scale steamroller prints from the annual Steamroller Smackdown competition they run. They also sell letterpress cards made in-house, with some cute designs. Our training was from 9-4, and while I knew they were providing lunch, it was a nice surprise that they also offered breakfast: bagels, donuts, coffee and fruit. They also had an excellent snack bar for grazing throughout the day, with chips, trail mix, fruit snacks and cookies, plus coffee and tea. The bathrooms were conveniently located, small but clean and well-maintained throughout the day. There were several other events running at the same time, but the facilities were well maintained all day long. Our presenters were an in-house instructor and a guest speaker, and they did a good job keeping things interesting over a long day, with videos and activities to break up the speaking. That said, there were some downsides. Our group of about 50 was really too big to fit, even in the largest room, and the people on the edges of the room had a hard time seeing the monitors. The large meeting room is almost all floor-to-ceiling windows, and even with the blinds drawn, there was a lot of glare; combined with a slideshow that was white text on a light blue background, it was very difficult to see -- which wasn't ideal, since our activities required seeing what was on-screen. The street outside was high-traffic, including frequent buses, and there was some sort of construction project going on in the parking lot that was quite loud and distracting. Most of this, I think, can be chalked up to a group that was too big. However, we fell behind almost as soon as the training began, which threw the schedule off -- we didn't get a break until after 11. Lunch was scheduled for 1, which felt kind of late, though at least we had the snack buffet to work on! Overall, I liked the facility, and most of the issues we had came from being too large of a group for the room we were in. They offer letterpress and hand-lettering classes for individuals, and I'd really like to come back and try one of those. I feel this is so important -- without a learning *community* learning is difficult. I took a full day workshop on visual meeting facilitation. I have tangible and valuable skills from just one short day here and am looking forward to applying what I learned in my work!! Also - free breakfast and lunch! Only gripes/suggestions: 1 - when doing name tags it's nice to get into the habit of asking students to state/write gender pronouns, SVC doesn't seem to have a policy around this but I think it would be appropriate 2 - this might only be specific to my instructor, but I think more could've been done to set ground rules for class at the beginning (like how/when to ask questions). there were a couple students in my workshop who ended up dominating conversations. this is really common with extroverts who quickly jump in with comments. But sometimes implementing a policy of "if you just spoke, wait a bit to see if someone else has something to add" can be helpful and encouraging to more quieter types/internal processors in the room. I also had a list of questions i wrote down expecting we would have time to ask questions at the end, but we ran out of time. So policies around class participation could be helpful! I enjoyed the more interactive parts of this workshop especially when we broke into groups and had more time to chat with each other and apply what we were learning. Highly recommend classes at SVC, I'll be back when my wallet lets me!

I finished with the base product management school class earlier this month, and overall it was a…read morepretty good experience. The quality of the class seemed to vary widely depending on how many people were in the class. The online classes seem like they accommodate a lot more people than the in-person sessions, so depending on what kind of experience you want from the class, it would be an important factor to consider when registering. I registered for the in-person class in Seattle, which only had 5 people. Due to the smaller class size, the instructor, Mark Tan, was able to customize the syllabus a bit to what we wanted to learn and we even got the opportunity to hear from other product managers from different companies. The only drawback to the class was that sometimes the final project seemed a bit out of sync with the class material, and there were some points during the course where we could've benefited from a more in-depth dive into things, but I think a lot of those gaps got filled in towards the later half of the class where we had a little more flexibility in planning course content.

Tarun offered real-world insights into the topics and often engaged the class to go above and beyond with our work. I came out of the class with applicable knowledge that I am now applying even in my engineering role. Tarun is a great guide for the Product Management space and offers great material to keep growing and pushing forward even after the certification is over! As for the downsides of the class, there weren't many, but these were the ones I thought are worth mentioning. The learning management system that Product School uses seems pretty dated, I'm hoping they come through with an updated format as I feel that it did detract a little from the learning experience. The other would be the choice of communication from Product School. Their Slack plan often has messages disappearing due to message restrictions. Be sure to keep your own notes and copy over any pertinent information from the Slack messages! Despite those minor inconveniences, I felt that Tarun overcame these difficulties successfully and was able to create a great learning environment for the entire class. He really went above and beyond in the transfer to online classes through the quarantine (such an unexpected scenario was handled swimmingly). I definitely trust Product School with the talent they choose for their classes and imagine that other classes emulate similar experiences (but definitely try to take Tarun if you can).

I really appreciated having internships at the end of the program and that the culture is inclusive. I would've liked to have covered more material in the C# portion of the program, I feel as though it was a little slow paced and repetitive, whereas the React portion felt crammed with too much new material on top of Career Services assignments and capstones. Overall though, I feel liked I learned a lot through their curriculum and that Career Services helped better prepare me for job interviews and applications. I would absolute recommend this bootcamp to friends, especially those who have some experience with programming as it will probably benefit them in the long run.

I really liked the structure of the classes and the ample resources available to us. The instructors were very accessible in the Discord channel and it was fun to work with people online. I had problems sharing my screen in the beginning and Cathy told me about hooking directly into the ethernet cable instead of using wifi. That did the trick. It was also very hard to see other people's screens because the print was so tiny. I invested in a 32" smart tv and that solved that problem. By the time I got everything together and was comfortable with everything, the class was over. I had a problem pairing with someone who kept their mic off in order to read the lesson. I had already read the lesson and didn't know what to do with myself. I should have contacted the teacher, instead I left the room with that person without an explanation and joined another group. I apologized to this person, privately after some thinking. That was my own personal problem and had nothing to do with Epicodus. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time, that I am amazed. I learned about the basics of coding, hooking up hardware, communicating online without visual cues from other classmates, as well as new apps that I have never heard of. When I think about the scope of what was accomplished in the Intro class, I give high marks to Epicodus. Thank you for offering this class for $100.
