When the phrase "hidden jem" or "best kept secret" were coined, they very likely were based on Academy Cafe. Located at the very historic Los Angeles Police Academy, this cafe is near perfection for me: great food, great service, great price, great location. The cafe is frozen in authentic mid-century design. It's immaculately clean and well cared and you can see the pride in everyone who works there, and even the patrons. They have very traditional toast bacon egg choices, and healthier options as well. Something for everyone. Be sure to check out the historic images on the walls, walk around the gardens and don't miss the gift shop!! Pay attention to the hours because Academy Cafe doesn't cater to the weekend brunch crowd. I'm just sorry I missed out on Academy Cafe during my first 25 years in LA. I promise the second 25 will be different. Waffles anyone?!!

THE OLDEST DINER IN LOS ANGELES Came here for their famous and unique menu items. This place has been here for almost 100 years, just mins away from DTLA. I ordered their secret menu item Meatball and Sausage sandwich for us. Since I was on Keto, the owner/Richard, said No Problem, I will make it as close to keto for you.... He the explained to me that they source their bread from Philadelphia, which I thought was super unique. The bread is definitely the star of the sandwich, it's soft and at the same has substance to it. Compared to Eastside Deli, Academy roll was superb. The meatballs and sausage combo is off menu item, you will have to ask for it with secret hand shake. It comes with the best seasoned fries or fruit for $13.95. Best deal in the 213/323. The service was outstanding as always, very attentive staff, always filling your water and napkins, since the sandwich is very messy with the sauce. Overall, it's a great dining experience at the oldest diner in the Los Angeles.

Unique and nostalgic atmosphere. Best tater tots and bacon I've ever had. Great dinner style food with plenty of menu variety, generous servings and friendly staff.

The safest restaurant in town. We went on a weekday during Thanksgiving break. My little guys want to be police officers and there is always at least one officer that will give them badge stickers. Different LEO come to this restaurant. There were sheriffs, some leadership, SWAT officers, and as we were leaving about 10-12 K-9 handlers were having a breakfast meeting. I went with my sister and her kids. The restaurant has an extensive menu and they serve generous portions. Friendly and attentive service. The restaurant is decorated with pictures dating back the the early 1900s. Almost a mini-museum. Safest restaurant in town.

The Academy Cafe is a convenient place for a decent meal. It's located on at the iconic Los Angeles Police Academy. The interior of the cafe feels like any normal cafe, but the decor on the walls takes you back in time! You can see old historic pictures of what LA City used to look like during simpler times. The workers are friendly and you can see everyone working hard. The service is fast and you're probably in the safest care in the city as it's filled with police and firemen. It truly is LA's best kept secret.

Took my 82 year old Aunt here for her birthday along with her 85 year old sister. We had a great time and they got to eat with cute cops. The food was delicious burgers, blts and pozole and delicious garlic fries. They brought an ice cream sundae for her birthday. parking is a tad confusing we did stop at the gate house and the directions to the cafe or not clear we had to ask twice and there are stairs. The gals managed it and it was a good pre lunch workout. don't miss a stop at their great gift shop when you're finished it's just next door. It's a great bit of LA history and the rock work is beautiful.

Nice cafe with vintage photos. Nice portions at a decent price. Most importantly the food tastes great.

An excellent little diner. Great, friendly staff and the customers are usually smiling & friendly too. I love the burgers here. I'm a big fan of bacon and I'm sooo happy when they bring my burger and there is enough bacon for me to snack on first (and still have enough left on the burger). Breakfast and lunch only (they close at 2pm). As others have mentioned, I suggest stopping in the gift shop for L.A.P.D. shirts, hats or a badge for the kids. The diner & gift shop make a great stop for out of town guests.

A private dining/meeting room off the main dining area.

The café is located within an apartment complex and offers underground parking, which the coffee shop validates the first hour is only $3. Street parking is also available. You follow the café signs to an elevator, and once you arrive, you're welcomed into a moody, beautiful space. DOGS ARE ALLOWED which is awesome. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor area feels like a balcony terrace combo with a small but lovely view of the LA skyline. We sat here and our doggo enjoyed a nap in the sun. It's a great spot to work, study, or catch up with friends without feeling cramped or rushed. The staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and friendly. They offer a nice variety of drinks, and we ordered an iced matcha latte and a hot Madagascar vanilla latte. For pastries, we chose a guava madeleine and a cookie butter madeleine. Everything is made fresh, and they actually whisk the matcha for each drink, which really shows in the quality. Our drinks came out quickly and were delicious. I loved my matcha, and my husband really enjoyed his latte. The pastries were also great, especially the cookie butter madeleine. This café is dog-friendly, which is a nice bonus. They only validate for 30 minutes, which honestly feels short given the setup. The vibes are immaculate though. Excellent music selection and sound quality -- it made the space really easy to focus in (unless you hate music). That alone elevated the experience a lot for me. I went on a Monday around 5 PM and they had no food available, which was disappointing because the kimchi fried rice sounded amazing. I ordered the matcha, and it was genuinely excellent. The foam had a slight saltiness to it that paired really well with the drink, and the matcha itself tasted high quality. I wouldn't change anything about it. My drink came out to around $9 including tip. Overall, I really liked this place and would probably come here often if I lived nearby. Between the expensive parking, limited outlet-to-seat ratio, and lack of food during my visit, I'd give it a solid 4/5.

It was really interesting that one of the Americanos was made with Ecuador Los 4 Mundos beans, and the other was made with Colombia El Diviso. The coffee here is all delicious, and the staff are incredibly friendly, which I really liked. However, the chairs were quite uncomfortable to sit in, and the Vanilla Latte was still pretty sweet even though I ordered it "less sweet." Still, the coffee tastes so good and the staff are so incredibly kind, so it's a really great coffee shop. P.S. A funny thing: They had dog treats in a jar. I immediately thought of my boss's absolutely super, incredibly cute dogs, so I asked for an empty cup and packed some treats to bring to the office for them today. But when I finished my coffee and was heading out, I totally forgot and accidentally threw the cup of treats away along with the empty coffee cups. OMG. (But seriously, all dogs and cats always absolutely love me. Hahaha. When I get to work, my boss's dogs come over wagging their tails and greeting me so excitedly--they are just so, so adorable. And as for cats, there's a stray that I've been feeding every single morning on my way to work for over 4-5 years now. She currently lives at the Buddhist temple I attend. Every day when I go, she follows me around everywhere. She absolutely loves it when I scratch her back with a brush, and when I'm done and try to leave, she taps my foot to tell me to scratch more! It's just so totally cute and lovable. It's a completely white cat, and so incredibly pretty.)

I stumbled across their Yelp page when I was visiting from out of town and checked the Instagram for their hours on a Saturday afternoon and was happy to see they were open! I am a sucker for pop-up coffee shop/cart concepts so I had to check it out. The pop-up is easy to find, it's outside facing into the parking lot, and they had a cute A-frame sign out by the street side. There was no line, and I ordered and sat down at one of the tables out front. The service was so warm, and I believe the shop is owned and operated by one man on his own! He was an absolute delight to meet, and he brought my matcha latte to me at the table when it was prepared. He suggested I get the cream top on it, and boy was that the perfect recommendation. I would say I'm a little bit of a matcha fiend... I think I got a matcha latte at 3 different places this day... and this one far surpassed the others. I think it was one of the best matcha lattes I have ever drank to-date. It was perfectly green, the matcha quality was phenomenal, both taste and look-wise. The texture was just right, perfectly creamy with barely any grittiness. The cream top only added to the drink, and didn't take away from the matcha flavor at all, which I feel like has happened at other places for me. I'm dreaming of this matcha latte days later, and need to go back to Kokoro No Coffee as soon as I am in town again. This was a spectacular find, and I hope this spot gets all the love it deserves! There is truly nothing like a great business ran by a great person and you can tell there's so much intention put into this concept. Highly, highly recommend and I could not sing praises more!
