The Yelp app came to the rescue by suggesting we visit Greenfingers. On a Saturday afternoon, the place was buzzing with customers, both local and expat. They offer a ton of services here; everything from basic flower arrangements to landscaping, office decor, and weddings. In-store, you can also get small potted plants (like succulents) along with beautiful orchids. They have a good range of pots and vases, and we were easily able to find a medium sized, cylindrical fiberglass vase for the bamboo shoots we were looking to get. Pricing for the one we wanted was surprisingly affordable at $180! Afterwards, we took a quick walk to Graham Street, found a flower stall, and got our bamboo plants (8 of them for good Feng Shui!) I now finish writing this review admiring our beautiful new plant in our common area!

So, this morning we set ourselves to find a simple but pretty basket in Wan Chai. You can find a ton of places that are doing this right now, but it's not so easy to find the right one, as I've found that they look very similar and sometimes too similar. Also, in most instances you can pick what you want from a range of fruits and flowers but the baskets are all the same. As we came down from the Pak Tai Temple in Stone Nullah Lane, we saw this little shop and decided to give it a go. The lovely lady in charge seemed to be in a big hurry, arranging a huge fruits basket, which looked pretty amazing. We asked for a 'basket for the Mid-Autumn Festival' and she said, seemingly sorry to disappoint us that she had run out of fruits! As we were planning to make an order, rather than buying it on the spot, she said she could do it then! We asked for prices and even though they were fair (starting at 600HKD), we hesitated for a second. In the back of our minds, we had a DIY basket, which we considered more special and a nicer present for our great hosts. The lady explained to us that prices of fruits and flowers go up by as much as 40% during this time of the year and recommended us to try one of the stalls in the wet market, for which she even gave us a business card. Their baskets were amazing, and she also sells flowers for special occasions, but I'm mainly reviewing this place because she has really honest and helpful, and even though she was busy, she took the time to explain all that to us.

Well, after much trotting around, quite a few birthdays and anniversaries, and a lot of dead flowers and plants later, I have finally found Lovely Greenhouse, a great little store that sells good quality plants and cut flowers, but at a very reasonable price. Now I'm happy that Mrs L is happy - win-win all around...! The store makes up regular cut flowers bouquets and baskets, very much like the sort that you would give your mum, as well as wedding arrangements, and the specialist arrangements for events and openings (you know, the shop openings flowers that you often see around HK). They also have a small range of pot plants, mainly orchids, which are well tended and will last a few weeks for even the most talentless gardeners, i.e. me. On my last visit a week or so ago, I picked up one of these orchids for around HKD200. The brownie points from Mrs L was priceless, for the actual payment, there was Mastercard. Yep, credit cards and the like accepted. Even for phone orders. Personally, I prefer to visit the store. It is conveniently located in the MTR mall at HK Station, underneath the IFC Mall. The shop is kind of sparse, some may say minimalist, without so many displayed arrangements, with most wrapped up in the fridges, so it's good if you have an idea of what you want to buy before hand.

They also have several drawers filled with different flower sizes and colours that you can pick and choose to replace the pre-made floral arrangements given it's not too complicated. The girl who works there is the sweetest and should win some sort of award for patience. They offer some laser cutting options for small signs for their domes as well. My office was in the area and I would often visit their store just to see what was new and every now and then there would be a new product.
