I started receiving treatment from Dr. Bates in June and she's helped tremendously in resolving the pain I was experiencing in my lower back. The pain was severe enough at the start that I seriously contemplated getting a cortisone injection. Felt like a knife in my lower back whenever I would stand after sitting. Sharp pain is gone and the back adjustments via the actvator method are working. Looking forward to progressing more and continuing with the exercises she has recommended, including lots of stretching. Dr. Bates definitely has a recommendation from me. read more

I have been going to Dr Bates since 2016. She was able to restore range of motion in my neck and shoulders. I no longer have pain in my lower back and my posture has improved. She also does nutritional analysis and was able to support my body to help my body heal from what I found out later was a UTI. She gave me supplements to help my body fight it and I felt better in a few days. Dr Bates really cares. She came to the funeral parlor to comfort me when I lost my husband. She gives back to the community as well by donating a portion of her business income to local charities. read more

I agree with the other review on this page - for a place that I had voluntarily entered, they were trying very hard to sell me on chiropractic care - to the point that I doubted how effective it really was, if they put so much effort into selling it! I also found Dr. Bates to be extremely rude to her secretary. Nearly every time I came in, she would snap at her and berate her in front of patients. It made me tense and uneasy. Dr. Bates continually suggested treatment that was not realistic with my busy work schedule (at the time, I worked 3 jobs - one teaching, one hostessing, and one as a waitress - all three on my feet and in view of the public, so hours with an ice pack strapped to my back was not going to work!). I was not happy with her care. I went for as long as my insurance covered it, and then I stopped going. read more

I originally went to Dr. Bates with lower back pain that has been ongoing for approximately 3 years. Each morning I would awake to extreme discomfort just getting started with my day. Add to that the discomfort of sitting at a desk all day. It was awful! Dr. Bates eased my pain with in the first week. The thing about chiropractic treatment is that you have to stick with it for an extended time in order for it to do any good on the body. Some people see that as "selling" but the truth is that if they did not explain the amount of time it takes, few people would complete the treatment. My daughter recommended ne to Dr. Bates. I was sceptical at first. The none evasive treatment and teaching me the importance of exercise has been great. She pointed out a lot for me to think about. I know hold my head up and look forward when walking and every time I realize that I am slumped over I immediately pull my shoulders back and neck in. Thank you Dr. Bates. Pay attention to the people on here saying this "business" pressured them into treatment and was rude. The bottom line here, "Give me your money". The treatment and well being of a patient seems to be an involuntary by-product to the almighty dollar instead of putting the patient first. Dr. Bates (I use Dr. loosely), felt it necessary to threaten us with a passive aggressive letter threatening to send us to collections. This wasn't a case of not wanting to pay. This was a case of waiting for insurance to go through their process. My insurance told me I wasn't responsible for a certain amount, but ole doc felt differently. Currently paid them off to shut them up. Sad business when you voluntarily look to your insurance company to be your advocate. There are far better choices out there than this place. read more

I am not planning to return to this business. Although the adjustment I received felt good and seemed effective, being subjected to face high-pressure sales tactics in a health care setting really rubbed me the wrong way. I came in for an initial evaluation, which was fine, but I did notice that everyone seemed to be trying awfully hard to convince me of the value of chiropractic care considering that I had voluntarily come to them. Then they had me come back for a "Report of Findings" where the doctor went over all the results of the tests from the evaluation and discussed a plan of treatment. She recommended that I get adjustments 3 times a week for 3 weeks, then 2 times a week for 3 weeks, then once a week for 3 more weeks, and announced that I would be receiving my first adjustment that day. I had no advance warning of this. She also put on the pressure to schedule my attendance at a wellness seminar that did not seem to be directly related to my treatment, suggested that I bring my husband to the seminar with me, and did not want to hear "I need to check my schedule" as an answer. This was despite the fact that the only options were weekdays at 6:30 AM (!!!!), lunchtime, and 5:30 PM. I work a 9-to-5 job in downtown Baltimore (half an hour away with no traffic) and don't go *anywhere* before 7 AM, so none of these were remotely convenient. I should have left then, but eventually she backed down and I went through with the treatment for that day. As I said, the adjustment itself went well. Then they moved me to another room for electronic muscle stimulation. That was fine too, except for the religious radio station that was playing (this was the official office music, not just someone's desk radio I was overhearing or something) and the secretary coming in while I was facedown on the table to ask - again - about scheduling the wellness seminar and my future treatments. Again, I advised that I would have to check my schedule. When the treatment was over, I went to check out and was again pressured to begin the plan of treatment as soon as possible; i.e., the same week. The only appointment options were weekdays 7-5, and the treatment would cost almost a thousand dollars out of pocket, even with insurance. When I raised my concerns about finances and scheduling and suggested that I might need more time to work that out and make a decision, I was given a lecture about taking care of my body and not being able to improve without consistent treatment. ***TLDR: Their office hours are inconvenient for anyone working a traditional 9-to-5, and the doctor and staff are extremely pushy about getting you to make snap decisions to sign up for expensive courses of treatment. Even as someone who came into this actively wanting to receive chiropractic treatment, I was really unhappy with this practice and don't plan to go back. read more
