In the early morning of Oct 16th, Mom quietly went to sleep. One call to Kevin at the funeral home and everything went smoothly for our family. Mom was absolutely gorgeous. Every little detail (some of which I didn't even think of) was flawless. The care, professionalism and personable job he did was amazing. I will never be able to thank the funeral home enough for taking me from a total bewildered state to one of peace and comfort. I will be forever grateful.

We enlisted the help of Collins in the summer of 2011 when my mother in law passed away. Never…read morehaving planned a funeral before we went on the website to view prices and see options. The family was in a poor financial situation as a whole and there wasn't any life insurance. We all discussed beforehand that we wanted a basic, no thrills burial. At the time of her passing we had the nursing staff dress her for the funeral as we decided against embalming as a money saving measure and because the family as a whole weren't sure how they felt about it. We also didn't plan on having a viewing of any kind, just a simple graveside service. Upon calling Collins we were shocked that during the initial phone call for pick up embalming was brought up - almost like asking "do you want fries with that" but not having any experience in this area didn't know if that was the norm. At the consultation it was apparent that the prices on the website were not accurate. Everything we said about wanting simple, no thrills was disregarded. When we scrutinized the numbers and found things added in that we didn't ask for and questioned them we were made to feel like we were making the wrong choices. As a whole our family was often referred to as "you people" during the consult. In the end we couldn't afford their "lowest" number and felt like this was more of a "disposal" then a burial. We left leaving a deposit with the intention to find outside financing. I sought the assistance of a relative in the business that lives in another state. He explained to us the ins/out and what we can expect, what's legal, and what is not. At this point they were unable to get bank financing and had to work w/in our means. We knew we couldn't stay at Collins and informed them of our situation and told them we would have her moved w/in the next several hours. We found another home closer to us, Andrew Scheid, who not only treated us and our loved one with dignity and respect but was able to provide a better service then Collens for about 35% less. However when Scheid contacted them to make arrangements for pick up, Collins was not very cooperative and she remained there for another 2 days. Upon pick up from Collins the new funeral home said that she had been embalmed (this was against our wishes) but her outfit, the one she was wearing that we planned on burying her in was missing. She was picked up in a paper gown. W/out going into further detail we cringe at the thought of what could have happened those few days at the Collins facility. NEVER, ever would I think that a professional funeral business would treat their customers the way we were treated. It's now been over a year since this has happened and we are just now able to talk about our experience. If this review saves just one family from experiencing the same horrors as we did then we will be at peace.

The older gentleman was rude and belligerent. Because my husband passed away at home suddenly, we did not have a doctor to sign the death certificate, this man said to my son and myself that he was taking the BODY anywhere until we had a doctor sign off on my husband. He kept saying to us DO YOU HEAR ME. We were on the phone with Perry Point to get them to sign the DC which take a wait to get anyone there. He said I am leaving, I said you are going to just leave my husband in the bedroom dead, his reply was have someone come and take him to Baltimore (I guess he was talking about the morgue) and he left my son and I with my dead husband. I called Foard's in Rising Sun they came out right away and handle getting the death certificate signed, they were amazing. I wanted the community to hear just how Lee A. We physically lost two loved ones, and we would not go to anyone else but Strano & Feeley. The excellent customer service begins with the initial home call, taking possession of the deceased loved one (e.g., at home or hospital), then the intake meeting with the family. The clean calming atmosphere starts outside (e.g., fishpond) then continues inside with comfortable furniture and smiling staff to greet you. No matter which staff you receive for the intake meeting, they all conduct themselves with professionalism, care, and provided clear information on the various options. As a grieving loved one, I'd suggest you come to the table with your grief but an open mind and patience with your loved ones present with you and the staff. What I appreciated was for one loved one- we had all the answers prepared, for the other we were figuring out as we went along- staff provided time and space in the intake meeting for us to calmly figure things out. Having someone take notes in the family to compare with the staff's notes is always useful - they were always on point anyway but it's good to remember what you ordered and they will provide you a folder with information from the initial session as well. Any insurance or cemetery logistics were handled on the phone right away by the staff in the first session - which was amazing to watch them navigate the complex systems of care. We had a loved one cremated and another buried in a nearby state - the funeral home still took care of everything, just be sure to provide your photos, music and obituary timely. Nothing was overly complicated and if it was, they never showed it, just showed up for us in every way - we had no worries. When it was time to collect our loved one's things (e.g. urn or possessions not buried) they provide you with a beautiful bag of memories, some unexpected, that showed more care than we could have imagined. By the end of our grieving season this summer - this had become not only a funeral home but an appendage to our family. The staff will forever be a part of our loved ones' legacy. P.S. I would highly recommend the nearby Atterbury VFW - Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3420 for a repast and their regular caterer Ms. Lori. Everyone was such a blessing and joy to work with, and they took care of absolutely everything including décor and the food was delicious.
