Designs were rendered by the landscaper / hardscaper, and are included below. While the porch is undoubtedly structurally sound, I do feel in hindsight there were multiple instances when Bob could and should have alerted us "heads up, you should be aware that visually, this, this and this may look funky".   Examples: * the fact that the porch is crooked both north/south, and east/west against both the house and the hardscape. decking was laid TOWARD the house instead of AWAY from the house - end result was essentially a triangular "shim" against the screen door * the fact that the east railing was not positioned where drawn - this was communicated, and ignored (shown in photos - east railing was supposed to hit mark on wall indicated by red arrow) * the framing extension sticking out of the east side of the porch - not discussed, should have been alerted (see photo, indicated by red arrow) * the beveled railing, which is narrower than the base to which it is attached (?), and the railing ends, which reveal a channel / hole - how could Bob think to not alert us to this in advance? finished product looks sloppy / awkward. The bottom line is that it's incredibly disappointing when the first thing people say upon seeing the porch is "oh, it's crooked".  This could have been avoided, the railing could have been built per drawing and discussion, etc. In addition, the project, which I was told would take a week, was drawn out over two months.   There are migrant children dying at our borders - yes my concerns are infinitesimal in the grand scheme - but most contractors approach their work with a "let's make the customer feel good about the end product" attitude. Bob, instead, basically shrugged shoulders, and said "it is what it is". I would characterize his communication skills as deficient at best, negligent at worst. When I brought up the above set of concerns, Bob threatened legal action. I have now paid in full, as life is too short, and we have no time for or interest in a protracted battle. But, we have a crooked porch.

He came over on a Saturday morning to look over what we had, and it was immediately apparent that he knew what he was doing. He offered to hang two sconces then and there, and they look fantastic. He came back the next week after we figured out where we wanted to place a few pieces of art, and he got it done quickly and efficiently. It was like he was never there, and our pieces were magically hung! I also asked him at the last minute if he would replace an old light fixture, and he did it without any issue. I can't say enough good things about Mark. He did excellent work, for a fair price, very quickly. He is easy to get a hold of and very responsive. Working with him was a nice reminder that not every handyman on the north shore will do sub-par work for an outrageous price. Glad we could use him before the secret is out and he gets too busy!

His prices were fair compared to others and he even picked up all the trim from the supplier about 20 miles away. Great work, would definitely use again.

He quoted me 1600 to 2000 to paint approximately a galley kitchen and 3 average walls with 2high ceilings. He said he would have someone help him. said it would take 4 days. He was also doing doors and trim. When he came the next day he was alone. During the course of the 8 hrs he was to work he left twice the first day worked a half a day the Second day. When came the. Third day he said he had to leave early again. That's when I told him finish the walls and forget the trim and doors and go! I Had to tell to him to-paint the wall twice because first coat did not cover and he still didn't do it right! I had to get someone else to finish up! He even had the nerve to say he should have charged square footage the second day he came after he already quoted me. He's a nice Man but not a HandyMAN! Had to clean paint off of floor and fireplace Maybe he does other work better on other things and I'm sorry I had to post this but very upset over the end result and the additional cost it cost me and stress

We picked out all of our own fixtures (sink, toilet, towel hooks, mirror, lights, tiles, paint, grout, etc.) and sent Rick copies of the receipts so he knew exactly what we were getting. This helped him provide an accurate estimate and plan accordingly. Since this is our only bathroom, having access restored quickly was a top priority. While the project took some time due to planning, subcontracting the electrician, installing a brand-new window, reglazing the existing tub, and working around the holidays, Rick made sure disruptions were minimal. The toilet was only unavailable for 24 hours and the shower for just three days total--impressive given the scope of the work! The craftsmanship was excellent, and everyone involved in the project was professional, skilled, and trustworthy. We felt comfortable having them in our home, and the end result was fantastic. Rick is highly responsive--he always kept us updated and answered every question promptly. We'll absolutely be using Hamill Homes again and have already recommended them to friends.
