I'd gone to the same watch shop in the College Area for several years. When the owner changed, I continued to go for several more years because there are not many watch repair shops around. After being burned on a Chase-Durrer, it was time to find a new shop. I have a small collection of watches, which are not luxury but certainly of elevated utility-style watches. All less than $5k, but all daily wear watches for austere environments. This guy recognized my watches on site sufficiently, he knew the model of the movements. In fact, he was the first to be familiar with an unusual limited edition Swiss Oakley enough, he made some storage recommendations because it has multiple batteries. I was genuinely impressed after having brought my watches to several places for service over the years. I have a good friend who is very much in to luxury watches and will be referring him. We have been going here for years and getting speedy service with a smile on each visit. A few days ago we stopped with my wife's watch which had stopped. And once more the owner smiled while holding up an identical watch which had arrived several hours before. He quickly changed the battery and we were gone in less than 15 minutes. They have some great vintage wall clocks I have been checking out and would love to own that 'schoolhouse' 8 day clock hanging on their wall. With a little time to save some money it will be mine. I found About Time through Yelp. I chose this establishment due to its reviews. Thanks fellow Yelpers for pointing me to a great repair store. Mo was extremely friendly and quick. I dropped off a tile piece that had the hands for a clock and the mechanism removed late in the day and it was ready to be picked up by opening the following business day. Mo installed a new mechanism as well as similar style hands to complete the clock. I was thankful that he also added a hook piece on the back to allow for the clock to be hung. The cost was a little higher than I expected but the workmanship was great. My dad was very happy with the end result. The store is located on University Avenue at Richmond so the street is busy with traffic. You should be able to find parking on the street but be prepared to pay for parking as the meter maids come by frequently. If I have any future needs related to clocks or watches, I will be coming back to About Time. Thank you Mo! read more

Oh my gosh - this is an amazing business operation! I couldn't believe how fast the service was. I brought 3 watches to replace the battery - before I finished asking about replacing a scratched crystal face on another watch, the other person had already finished. This was unbelievable!What I valued the most, besides the efficiency, is that they don't care what brand name of watch you have compared to all other places which charge a higher amount for battery based on the expense of the watch. I found this store by searching positive reviews for a jeweler to repair my watch. I spoke with the owner Mo over the phone. Very honest and caring. I have a vintage 1971 King Seiko automatic watch that is in need of a movement repair. He took his time with me and explained the process of what it could cost. He was extremely honest and kind as he told me my options with this watch might not be worthwhile in getting it repaired as the costs to replace/fix pieces within this old movement could be more expensive than the value of a working watch. First and foremost, my first trip to About Time convinced me that I'll never go anywhere else for my watch repair needs. Mo, the owner, has my business for life. He's professional, courteous, and good looking to boot! You can stop reading now if you want. -smile- Before I tell my story, let me address some of the issues I've seen people here on Yelp write about. 1. People say About Time is hard to spot. I found that not to be true at all. Yes, it's a little cubby hole shop between two other businesses but the signs outside are PLENTY large. You'd have to be blind to miss them, especially knowing it is between Richmond and Normal St. on the South side of the street. 2. Parking. Street parking is metered. Of course sometimes it may be tough to find a place to park, but hey, it's in Hillcrest, so expect it. Going to this business is well worth dealing with a possible parking issue! (See *** below) OK, onto my story. I have gotten sick of watches requiring battery changes, especially seeing as the price for changing them has skyrocketed over the years. I finally decided to get myself a nice automatic watch. I bought a Bulova 96R122 watch from a Craig's list ad, because it was much lower in price than I had seen it elsewhere. I was a bit disappointed that it did not have the diamond case I had seen in every photo I found of this particular watch. Quite by accident I found a case on ebay and bought it. I also had attempted to remove a couple of links from the bracelet and failed miserably! Needless to say, I needed to find a watch repair shop, so off to google I went to find local places. After finding a few I started reading reviews. About Time, and Mo, the owner, topped the list in a HUGE way, so off I went. We parked in one of the parallel parking spots on the street, and walked in. Mo greeted me and instantly I knew why so many of the lady reviewers say he is easy on the eyes. -smile- ********After I showed Mo what I needed, he quickly asked me where I had parked. I told him and he double checked that I wasn't parked in one of the spots directly in front of the shop, that are not parallel. Apparently those spots appear not to be metered because the meters are in a group, not in front of each space! Mo wanted to make sure I didn't get a parking ticket. Now tell me, how many business owners will go out of their way to keep you from getting an expensive parking citation?******* We were in his shop no more than ten minutes. He removed the links and changed the case in record time. He checked the size. I said I'd like one more link out. He recommended that I don't do that because a person's wrist changes size throughout the day and chances are it would wind up too tight. I wanted the link out anyway and so he did what I asked and said if I changed my mind, come back and he'd put a link in, no charge. He handed me the extra links, pins and the old case and told me to keep the links. I was very pleased that he did the work right on the spot because I thought I would have to leave the watch there and come back in a few days. I was also expecting to have to pay more for his services. I expected $40 to $50 bucks to disappear from my wallet. It came to $30 and that too pleased me! While we waited for him we eyeballed around the shop looking at the selection of watches he had for sale. Yup, he's got some nice stuff! The bottom line is, Mo is a watch professional, unlike jewelry store personnel. He does good work and has reasonable prices. read more
