After the tornado hit rome ny in July of 2024, I hired a contractor to repair the damage. Per my…read moreinsurance company the damage totaled roughly 56k. The 1st contractor, Chad Webb representing Dixon Home Improvements, frauded me out of about 30k. The work that was completed was poor craftsmanship, which I complained several times. He said we'll make it right. My garage was demolished 0ct 18th 2024, its took 6 weeks to come back after 1k worth of wood was purchased to start the framing and building the walls. They were built and left on the ground covered in a tarp on November 30th. That was the last time they came to my house. He ignored my calls/texts/emails. In early December Steve Dixon contacted me stating we let chad go(BIG LIE) we'll have another contractor finish the work. Dixon Home Improvements and Chad Webb are con artists amd prey on the vulnerable. 3 others in the area were scammed as well. DO NOT HIRE!! Oh he also is claiming Stolen Valor.

Steve will tell you repeatedly that he stands behind his work and will always make things right. He…read moredoesnt. He put a shed roof on the front of my house, rebuilt a deck and put a new roof on. I dealt with the fact that he dragged out the project for months and left me in construction for a long time, but when he wanted to be done with it, he rushed through and did things hurriedly. There wasn't respect for my property as I had a brand new concrete driveway and they took no precautions to preserve it. The owner even left an oil stain on it from his leaking truck. The clean up daily consisted of them packing their tools and leaving. There were nails throughout the yard and driveway that we cleaned each night and swept their mess from the day. Steve Dixon is not professional in his respect for the homeowners property. Additionally, if you, as the paying customer, bring something to Steve's attention that you'd like addressed or question or fixed he literally yells at you, swears and leaves or hangs up if you're on the phone. He yelled at my 80 year old mother when she brought to his attention there was a color difference in something. I've never seen a businessman have tantrums like that...and disrespect!! Steve Dixon doesn't finish the details of a job. I have two places where my roof is exposed to the elements, an unfinished corner in the soffit, an unfinished edge under my porch roof and a gutter not attached to the downspout. The room where he left the roof exposed had water damage and a leak inside. Steve came and shoveled my roof and told me I had inadequate roof insulation that caused ice damage. Never had it before the roof was done. Do not use Dixon Home Improvements for your next job. I wrote a positive review previously before fully checking everything out. You will also pay a lot more than the original contract. Beware!

David Rivera was hired through Handy.com to install a new door. He damaged our new door before he…read morerealized that it would not fit. At that point, he estimated it would cost 525.00 to rebuild the door frame to fit the new door. We stated we would return the door for the correct size, but he stated he damaged the door so it couldn't be returned. He did not offer to replace the door he damaged. When he returned, he had nothing to build the frame up. All he had was a used door that he told us was new. He put in the used door wrong. It has to literally be slammed to get it to close. The door will have to be replaced. He was suppose to sell the new door and give us money back. It has been over 4 months and we have heard nothing from him. Handy.com did refund us the money we paid them. He was not suppose to charge us anything and was supposed to go through handy.com. He did none of this . We feel like we were really conned by this person. It ended up costing over 1000.00 for the door and it was so poorly installed that we will have to replace it. We have tried to get NYS consumer protection involved. This company doesn't even have a legitimate address. So, they have only his email if it till works as a means to contact him. He has his home address listed as the same as his business address - which is not a real address. Would never recommend working with this individual or having him do anything with your home. We feel like we were really conned by this person, and Handy.com has failed to give us the support that we needed to resolve this problem.
