I've not yet ventured so far as to eat here, but I have been upstairs for drinks. On the advice of…read more'the best mojito in town' I decided to take a friend along to test that statement. As you enter the ominous opening at the bottom and ascend the stairs you would be forgiven for thinking that upstairs was some terrible dive of a bar, where danger could be lurking. But no, quite the opposite. I was confronted with a rather glitzy bar area, the air of posh all around, and customers wearing distinctly dressier garments than the effective rags I now felt I was draped in. Embarrassment. My friend held similar sentiments. Anyway, off to the bar we trot. I ordered a rasberry mojito, which was the advised drink of choice, and my friend something with a star fruit in it. The mojito was not in fact the best mojito in Leeds. It was slightly too sour, very weak and not very rasberry. Perhaps I had a bad bar tender. My friend's mysterious cocktail was interesting - we mostly enjoyed the star fruit to be honest. So, having been relieved of nearly £15 we vacated, aware of the eyes looking down their noses at our tatty jeans, as we descended the stairs and on into the night. I haven't, needless to say, paid Chino Latino a secondary visit.

The odds don't look great for Chino Latino - both the Chinese and pizza restaurants to the left of…read moreit have shut down, seemingly without a whimper. And looking from the street, Chino Latino doesn't give off the impression of being very 'open' either. Oh, but it is. Chino Latino is the place to go if you like Asian food. Not specifically Indian, not specifically Chinese, not specifically Japanese - Pan-Asian, you know? No? Me neither. But I like it. The decor is gloomy, like the front, but it works. Kind of. The subtle lighting gives Chino Latino an almost glamorous feel, a restaurant that makes you feel like you could be anywhere in the world. That's special.

Yesterday the boyfriend and I travelled to Bradford for the media museum. Essentially I watched him…read moreplay computer games, both 3D and vintage. We then decided to pop over the road for a late lunch at Omar Khan's. It was about three and the place was empty, not surprisingly but also a bit awkwardly. It was a very cosy, quite posh interior and it felt a little as though we were pushing in. I hasten to add that none of that feeling came from the waiter who was attentive without hovering. He also earned points from me by putting us next to the radiator! We both opted for the early bird menu, a starter and a main for 8.50. I decided on aloo patties and a vegetable makhi, the boyfriend chose meat samosas and chicken rogan josh. This was a brave choice for me, i.e. not a korma, but it sounded mild. The starters were lovely, although sadly the boyfriend found a bit of plastic in his salad. It was an unfortunate moment, but the food itself was lovely and the waiter handled it well by giving us drinks on the house. This was a nice change from other responses I have seen from waiting staff when something has gone awry (my favourite being the waitress who when being advised of a silverfish ON the dining table simply squashed it into the tablecloth and then announced 'There are no silverfish in this establishment madam'!). With the mains, we both had an order of pilau rice and a garlic naan. It seemed a lot as it approached the table on a trolley, but it was just the right size. My curry was gorgeous, mild without being insipid with a nice quantity and selection of veg. The garlic naan was slightly crispy but not burned. I was very happy. I may even venture over again, though I may ensure next time that I take a book to carry me through the video game preview.

Yay finally a place that let me create my own curry! I can get my veg and chicken. Went here for…read morelunch with hubby and was happy with the options and food. Nice environment and could be a good date place.
