We had a bad experience with the agent we were assigned and requests for help with brokerage owner didn't result in any meaningful assistance. We eventually decided to move our business to another brokerage, which was also a very challenging process. It was like dealing with the Department of Motor Vehicles in the former Soviet Union. I was rather expecting the independent broker who originally put us into this policy to contact us and either provide an explanation or offer to shop around for a new homeowner's policy. We never heard from her. So I emailed Kinneman Insurance, and the owner put me in touch with Kevin Pennington, who is a very energetic, knowledgeable, and dedicated agent. Over the next month he shopped with different insurers to get us a better rate with the same or better coverage. He answered every question, responded to emails and phone calls very promptly, and was so personable yet professional in his manner. After a lot of work on our behalf, Kevin put us into a new homeowner's policy that costs significantly less than our previous policy, yet provides more comprehensive coverage. I feel we were in the best of hands with Kevin, and it was a pleasure doing business with him. We look forward to having him meet our insurance needs for a long time to come.

Today I got a call from them saying that our homeowners insurance was cancelled and that we are currently exposed without insurance! They said that two notices were mailed by Erie to our home but they didn't receive payment so they canceled our coverage. We have always faithfully paid our premiums when bills have come for the last 20 years. I don't know why we didn't receive their notices in the mail but I told Boizelle that it is a horrible policy to not receive a phone call about this BEFORE TAKING THE STEP TO CANCEL OUR POLICY! The first phone call was after they canceled our policy! We certainly would have paid immediately if notified by phone that it was necessary to do so. I would have even been OK with automatic payment via our credit card in order to stay covered. Bottom line, they said that to get coverage again we'd have to start from scratch by getting one of their people out to our house and drafting up a policy as if we were new customers. This is a boneheaded policy. Being left uninsured by surprise is a big deal and a poor way to treat a loyal customer. I know that there are better insurance companies out there that wouldn't have such ineffective practices. At least I know some good questions to ask other potential insurance companies before I give them our business.

This was despite all of the efforts that Logan had already gone to on my behalf to offer to me less expensive auto insurance. He counseled me that it would be better for me to wait a couple of years to have some excessive claims drop off of my homeowners insurance (that my auto insurance was bundled with), before I consider making any changes.
