THE SHORT: ABC is a one man shop. The owner/operator, Freddy, has literally grown up in the business. While the majority of his work is with designers on commercial orders (hotels, restaurants, etc.), if you're lucky, he can squeeze you in on the side. We used him to make us a window seat for our bay window and we are very pleased. We would recommend Freddy highly for all your upholstery needs. THE LONG: We found Freddy on Angie's List where he was "A" rated, and the reviews indicated his pricing was very reasonable. We had him come out to our house to survey the potential job and he quoted us a price of $225 for the seat, which is about 10 feet long. Once we agreed to hire him , he measured the available space. A couple days later, he cut a plywood template at his shop, covered that with a high quality foam (not the crap they sell at JoAnn's) and wrapped it in a fabric, which we supplied. He also put buttons throughout to reduce the risk of the fabric getting loose over time. When he called to tell us the seat was ready for installation, he mentioned he had extra fabric leftover, so we also had him make 4 small pillows to match at $20 each. Roughly 10 days after we placed the order, he arrived at our house on time for our scheduled appointment and installed the seat which fit perfectly. All in all, this was a very stressless vendor experience and, as someone who has dealt with probably 50 or more vendors over the past 3+ years of extensive home renovating, I found it to be a pleasant change. read more

Called ABC Upholstering for a quote to replace seven foam cushions on my sectional. I inadvertently provided incorrect measurements--one inch off on the thickness. However, the owner (I believe his name is Freddie) still charged me the quoted price after obtaining the proper measurements. I'm one of those people who when exploring service providers often takes the time to read online reviews and then, after that research, I'm surprised by how past reviewers could have had the experience they had compared to my own -- for example, a set of 5 star reviews coming in has too often left me with a feeling of 2 to 3 stars going out... Well, that's not the case here!!!! Exactly as explained in the many 5 star reviews, Freddie's work for us -- re-upholstering 6 dining room chairs, giving them new cushioning, and scotchguarding from the kids -- was so informative, excellent, quick (granted, I happened to catch him just out of a big job and he had an opening, but my offer to pay in full upfront had my job unexpectedly turned around in a day and a half, whoa!), and Freddie is just so pleasant and professional that it was almost hard to believe. Freddie is a highly skilled artisan who learned the craft from his late father and uncle. This immediately made me feel like I was in seasoned hands. I cannot express how appalled I am over the professionalism of Freddie, the owner of ABC Upholstering. A month ago I looked at the internet locate an upholsterer to make a fabric change to 2 perfect condition chairs. I found ABC Upholstering and was impressed by its 5 star rating. I spoke to Freddie and I emailed him photos of the chairs and he quoted me a reasonable price for them. I looked for 2 yard material for each chair and after 2 weeks I called Freddie back to affirm the quantity of material. He remembered me and everything seemed to be a "go". Two days later (on a Friday) I called him to schedule a drop off of the chairs. He stated on Wednesday because he had a lot of work and needed to catch up. He further stated, and for which I commend him for, is that he was caring for his mother suffering Alzheimer's disease between late morning into the early afternoon hours for which he would not be available. However, that did not prevent me from using his services. I scheduled my appointment with him for approximately 4:00 p.m. Wednesday. That Wednesday I left work early, went home, lifted the 2 mid heavy weight chairs, placed it and tied them down unto my truck. I then took the 20 minute trip to of ABC Upholstering in Canoga Park for my appointment. I attempted to call first but a fax line would activate instead. When I arrived I knocked on the door of ABC Upholstering and Freddie answered and I told him that I brought my 2 chairs. Immediately, Freddie stated "I am not interested" and that he was behind and busy with his mother. I was taken back by his statement considering the effort I took to take my chairs to his facility. He had my email and had opportunity to cancel his work prior to my efforts but did not. I found that to be very unprofessional and discourteous. I would not recommend this upholstery facility to no one based on Freddie's unprofessional and unpredictable behavior. To have a customer take the furniture to Freddie only for him to rudely reject performing the work after arrangements were made, is disgraceful. read more
