My cousin suggested Mary Cay to me because I needed someone new to handle my taxes. The person I…read moreused last year didn't do a great job and I was ready to bring my giant pile of paperwork to someone and have them sort it all out. Mary Cay did that and more, and I couldn't be happier (or more relieved.) I went on the same day as my cousin and was totally taken by surprise at the "welcome board" she uses... it cracked me up! There was a big sign welcoming both my cousin & I by name, and you don't see that personal touch very often anymore. It at least let me know I was in the right place! I went upstairs and we laid everything I had on the table. Forms and forms and more forms. She took all of my information and then plugged a bunch of things in, which took about 30 minutes. What I LOVED about her services was that she explained what everything meant as she went along and I ended up learning so much just from the brief time I spent in her office. Her fee is reasonable, and what stood out to me was that it includes "anytime financial advice." I can call her or email her with questions about anything related to money throughout the year, and she'll be glad to help me. She also told me she thought it was great that I was taking charge of my finances and had everything organized, which made me feel ahh-mazing. The only thing better than having your taxes done early is doing business with someone you can tell genuinely cares about putting you in the best situation possible. I'll be using Mary Cay for many, many years! I'm crackers for Rackers.

I've never met Jan Roberg, but I spoke with her recently. I came upon her office's phone number…read morewhen I was researching some unnecessarily convoluted and asinine tax laws that would only happen in the US of A. I felt some stress upon discovering that I may (or may not) be fined for not filing something that until today, I didn't even know was a thing. But as I've learned from a lawyer friend of mine, "ignorantia juris non excusat." For future reference, an adult pleading ignorance (i.e. "I didn't know") isn't afforded the same levels of leniency as when a child does it. So I called Roberg Tax Solutions, because the local (Oklahoma City) tax advisers are either not quick at responding, or are not willing to provide any insight without seeing dollar signs first. I got her voice mail. I figured that was the end of that, but she called me back within five minutes. I have never before had the pleasure of speaking with someone who was so helpful with tax advice. Along with the advice, I caught a hint of her kind personality, and she helped ease some of my stress. It's disappointing that I had to contact someone from out of state to get the help I needed, but at least I got the help I needed. While I don't live in St. Louis, I almost wish I did just so I could deal with a fantastic tax professional like Jan Roberg.

I have referred at least 5 people to him and they are all extremely satisfied! I have worked with Steven for a decade now. He is extremely knowledgeable and helped me create my LLC too!

During our free consultation, Steve…read morewas helpful and considerate; however, thereafter, he failed to conduct business in a professional and trustworthy manner. When asked about his price, Steve stated he does not have a set price, as it's based on the amount of work needed to compete the return (this seems fair). Steve further stated I would not be locked in on the price once he reviewed my tax documents and provided a price. Steve called approximately 1.5 weeks later and provided an estimated return based on my documents as well as a price of $800.00. Based on my prior professional accountants I've used (who all charged $200 or less), I believed this price to be unreasonable. I asked Steve what is hourly rate was and what his workload was in hours (so I could reverse engineer his seemingly outrageous number). Steve failed to address my questions, stating he charges a higher rate for professional work (which is a clear evasion to avoid the glaring issue). I informed Steve I did not want to proceed with the filing of the tax return, since the price seemed unreasonable (as well as of his lack of justification for such a price). Steve attempted to gaslight me by stating the work was done (implying I owed him because of the work) - contrary to our prior verbal agreement (per parameters he set). Steve further attempted to gaslight me by making the rhetorical remark: "if that's how you want to do business, then come get your documents." (He offered to mail them too). This is widely unprofessional given our initial agreement. In summation - Steve is either new at accounting and justified (in his mind) the high price, due to an unnecessary amount of time he spent trying to figure out how to properly file our taxes (because he lacks the knowledge on military-related services and capital gains, two intricacies involved with my return). Or, Steve attempted to swindle me for more money than what his services were worth (compared to the market), because he was aware I was getting ~23k back in taxes charged incorrectly to my wife's military medical severance pay. In either case, Steve failed to be honest about his price upfront and hoped I would be manipulated to pay it after he was done reviewing. This could have easily been avoided if Steve was honest about his hourly rate and/or a percentage he charges based on the total tax refund. This clearly shows Steve lacks professionalism, as he is looking to get the most amount on money based on the circumstances (and is willing to lie and omit facts to do so). At the age of 32, I have never worked with an incompetent and untrustworthy accountant - until Steve. You have been warned
