Most unprofessional ownership, and incompetent company I've EVER dealt with!! I've been a customer for years. And ove the last year or two things went completely downhill. Our trash pickup became later and later each week and never on time. Up til the week I canceled it was averaging 4 days late each week. So I figured maybe they changed the day or something and I missed the notification. So I called the office and asked ( extremely politely ) what was going on? I explained to the owner im an organ transplant patient and can't easily keep taking my trash up and down my long drive every day not knowing when they'll be there to pick it up. And I explained my township won't alow it to sit more than a day this time of year for snow removal. Boy oh boy did that set the owner of ABC off!! He didn't care I was sick or handicapped at all. He just began screaming at me and told me to find another company and hung up! Wow I couldn't belive it. This company is nearly out of business luckily, we don't need people like this "servicing" our area. Or atleast pretending to. Avoid this company at all costs!! I started with ABC Sanitary because I wanted to support a local and family business and they advertise locally. I find the service generally dependable and I appreciate the recycling options. Customer service requests have been fulfilled and pleasant. I feel good about supporting them and I'm so glad they don't have required trash containers. A lot of equipment failures and late collections. One of the more expensive options in Champaign. We were willing to put up with most of the problems, but a 10% price increase just was a bridge too far. We liked the Friday collection day, but the recycle collection became regularly (and known) at least 24 hours after waste collection. Never use ABC Sanitary, the companies owner is a rude, violent and dangerous driver. On Saturday one of their drivers who claims to be the owner of the company pulled out in front of me going South on N Elm St from an alleyway. I proceeded to get his information and as I approached his vehicle to get this information he proceeded to slam his cab door in my face. Instead of apologizing he choose violence and was combative and yelling expletives at me. If he hadn't thought he had done anything wrong he could have just let me get his number and go on about his business but instead he assaulted me and ranted about how he was a professional and owned the company so he didn't care as he did nothing wrong. He was awfully violent for a man who felt he had done no wrong. I would never recommend this company to anyone and I will be sure to let anyone I know not to or to switch if they do. Very inconsistent with picking up trash and recycling on the same scheduled day. It's been like this for 5+ straight weeks. The communication to let customers know that recycling will be picked up a day other than the regularly scheduled day is VERY POOR! Look elsewhere for trash and recycling services if you're able to. Had them for years, had a great garbage man who was courteous and would tuck the can against the fence when it was windy. In the past couple months I've had multiple failures to pick up trash and it took massive amounts of follow up for them to even accept it was a problem. Common response was that it wasn't out, but that was a lie and they would always get the recycling so it not being on the curb was clearly not the issue. Gave them multiple strikes, but this last one was it. Fired the company and went with someone else. Didn't even get a follow up call to confirm the cancellation of service or a "what could we have done to keep your business" call. read more

I have used ABC Sanitary for over 30 years. They have always been willing to pick up what I have on the curb. They have asked that I notify them if I have large items. A couple of times in 30 years, they have missed me, but were willing to come later or the next day to pick up the missed items. They have been willing to arrange billing the way I requested. They have picked up my trash since 1998. I find them very reliable. I appreciate the recycling services which they offer. I have had a few difficult times when speaking with the customer service person in the past which has definitely improved. This company is horrible to deal with from not having trash picked up to not dropping off the can to begin service for over two weeks. DO NOT use. Instead consider Dale Levitt who is cheaper and provides much greater customer service. Front office manager is rude and didn't cancel our service when requested. I just had one of the most unprofessional, and rudest conversation with the lady that answered the phone at ABC.. I've used them about 20 years with very few problems. I rarely call but office staff has been less than friendly without being not rude. Maybe because we often (25%?) don't put out trash they've never charged us extra on the rare occasions when we had something that didn't fit in the can (nothing huge). read more

after using their service for several years without much issue, I moved to a different location and tried to end service. I called the office well in advance, left a message with name, address, account number, phone number etc. I never received a response, so I also followed up with several emails (especially for documentation purposes) requesting cancellation and confirmation of cancellation. I cannot comment on the friendliness of the staff, as I have not been able to reach anyone. Two months after moving I'm still getting billed for service at a place I no longer live. I have never experienced such bad customer service in all my 33 years! I agree with most of you.. the office manager "Krystal" was a terrible person to communicate with because she argued and yelled at me like she was 12 yrs old! I called to inform them that the garbage guy once again took our garbage can lid along with 2 recycling bins this morning. Krystal said she talked to him and he said he only took the garbage. She also said the wind probably blew it away. Just to clarify- today is 2/25/11 and there is no wind at all! I then asked to speak to her supervisor and she said even if he was there he wouldn't speak to me. She's the office manager and all calls go to her. I then asked for the name of her supervisor and she refused to tell me. I asked for the name of our garbage driver so I could later refer back to this issue, and she refused to give me his name as well. She then said she couldn't do anything more for me and hung up while I was in the middle of conversation. I called back two more times attempting to ask the name of the owner of ABC, and again she hung up on me for a total of 3 times! We will be canceling our service with them- I guess you get what you paid for: Cheap rates for Lousy service!!! The pleasant person who answered the phone said their driver hadn't been in the neighborhood, yet (so a competitor mistakenly picked up our trash today--has happened in the past). I've been using them for about 30 years & have never had the issues some people complain about here. If someone found their can in a street it must have been a windy day that blew it into the street. If you want your can returned away from the street you may end up with someone who will charge you extra, totally reasonable. The once or twice in all these years they missed me they cam & got it. As other reviews have mentioned, ABC tends to employ a rather unpleasant office assistant. On several occasions, either asking to suspend service for vacation, or calling for payment information, she has been rude. Generally, the phone was answered with a terse "Hello," which prompted me to ask if this was indeed ABC Sanitary. I would get "of course" as a response. Aside from the office staff, the haulers would generally make quite the mess when picking up. Once, I left a mirror to be picked up next to my can. They ended up breaking it in my drive way, and instead of cleaning it up, left the broken glass for me to discover once I arrived home. Spend the money on a better service! In less than a year they have missed picking up our trash three times. When calling to discuss this and another pick-up--we put our yard bags our for our landlord to pick up, but ABC ended up picking them up and charging us the $30 for it--my husband was told he was lying to them. Imo, this is the best garbage service in CU. Great recycling and reasonably priced. They pick up anything for a nominal fee.

I was a customer of theirs for 7 years. In that time my cost increased by 50%, I was subject to random charges periodically, their haulers left garbage when it suited them and the office staff (2 different people) were rude - almost if they were hired for a poor attitude. Kept them because they were the low cost alternative (as a single person living alone I rarely generate a lot of garbage). Luckily, between their price increases and another hauler opening up in the area, I was able to switch. read more

I've read the yelp reviews and my roommate has also explained to me that if I had to ever call I would get terrible service. Knowing this and also working in the service industry I know there can be some unruly customers so I went into that last phone call with an extreme level of positivity and was rushed off of the phone like my problem doesn't matter. The driver picked up the recyclable waste but didn't pick up unrecyclable waste .the first time I called and a woman said they would come again.but didn't.then I called again but this time that woman said she couldn't understand what the unrecyclable waste is! I haven't had an issue with them and they are about half the price of others in town. Once they did forget to pick up my trash, but after calling them, they sent someone out the next day. They also pick up unlimited recycling for free and yard waste for $2.50/bag. I will agree with others that the staff is not overly friendly, however I have never had a bad experience. They do pick up VERY EARLY in the morning, so its best to put your can/bins out the night before. read more

I've talked to the folks at ABC Sanitary a number of times over the past year, and the woman who answers the phone has been consistently friendly and helpful. Occasionally, our trash pick up has been missed, and she's immediately arranged for a "special" pick up on the next day. Most recently, I had to clean out a family member's small apartment and ABC was a lifesaver--I was offered some much needed sympathy along with thoughtful advice about the most economical way to dispose of about 30 contractor bags full of trash and a old mattress/box springs. I wish I could give them 0 stars. I pre-paid and booked a large dumpster to be delivered on a Friday. When the Friday arrived they called to let me know they do not deliver dumpsters to the location that I needed it. This was frustrating as I had clearly given them the address when I booked the dumpster the week before. Unfortunately this left me in a huge bind as I had out of town contractors coming in town for the weekend and it was too late in the day to get another service to deliver a dumpster.
