So far it has been a fantastic first year for us. Our kiddo has grown so much at LEEP. Both her Spanish and her English have gotten stronger. She loves going to school everyday. The staff is warm and caring, and they have responded quickly and dealt appropriately with any concerns I've had so far. Our kid seemed to be a little anxious early on in the year, since Kindergarten was a big transition for her. The counselor was incredibly helpful and within a week our kiddo had settled down and the behaviors I was worried about had stopped. Part of the problem was that she was reading ahead of her level, but working with her teacher and the principal they creating an individual program for her to work on. By working in small groups so the kids can work at their own level. The socio-emotional learning program at LEEP has helped our kid self regulate and helped make her so articulate about her needs and emotions! Her three year old sister sometimes doesn't understand why her adored older sister is asking to have her space respected, but it's adorable to watch. The building was newly renovated by the school and is cheerfully decorated with art projects made by the children. The kids walk to a playground a block away. When the weather is bad and they end up having indoor recess, my kid tells me they do fun dances. Their arts program is fantastic and having the opportunity to play soccer regularly has been great for my kid. She goes to bed early on days she's had Soccerroof. Forgive me for the super lengthy review. I'm just trying to include all the things I am thinking of when looking for a school for my kid. Our family has two children enrolled at Honeydew at the Church Avenue location -- our son is…read morenormally downstairs at the Playhouse, and our daughter is upstairs at the Kiddy Loft. Both started when they were four months old, so Honeydew has been a part of our lives since the very beginning. To put it simply, Honeydew has been an amazing partner in these early years of raising our children. Both of our kids love their programs. They attend for ten hours a day, five days a week, and they are excited to walk in each morning and happy every afternoon when we pick them up. They have strong and meaningful relationships with their teachers, whom they love, and their relationships with the other "friends" at Honeydew are a source of joy for both them and us. From a parent's perspective, we deeply value the care they receive, the enrichment activities that make up their schedule, and the strong feeling of partnership we have with their teachers, which is reinforced with every single interaction and conversation. We recently decided to have our kids return to Honeydew, as part of the first wave of children coming back into the program post-COVID-19 closing. We felt some trepidation making that decision, but we couldn't be more pleased with how it has gone. Honeydew admin has done a tremendous job setting out appropriate health and safety protocols, and the teachers and staff are clearly implementing those measures without fail. The teachers, who have all tested negative for the virus, are incredibly careful with their own PPE, they are rigorous in taking temperatures at both drop-off and pick-up, and the Kiddy Loft space itself is clearly as pristine and well-maintained as it has ever been. We feel completely comfortable sending our kids there every day. And the kids are thrilled to be back. Our son giggled with excitement on our drive to school that first Monday, and his little sister toddled off happily that same morning. They love being back at Honeydew, remain as close as ever with their teachers, and -- at least speaking for the older one -- are looking forward to having more friends around soon.

Nope! In a little over week, the days that we didn't go, he cried and screamed and begged to go, so I signed him up for all four days! Patty and Maya are warm and friendly, and really know how to interact with young children. They do lots of activities (they even got my son to paint, though I can't get him to do any art at home), and spend a lot of time outside. He's always learning something from them - skills like how to take his shoes on/off (because of course he won't listen to me), or a new song, etc. I think the small, informal environment, and the socialization of peers of different ages/abilities has done absolute wonders for him. I plan to keep him in their program as long as possible!

She comes home excited and happy and tired and always has something fun to tell us about her day. They go outside every day, rain or shine, and she is always coming home with cute art or plants or other creative projects they've worked on together. We were also able to stay connected with what's happening in the classroom through an app they use, which I really appreciate. The kids always talk positively about their friends at school and their teachers (specifically Ms. Alana and Ms. Hawa). One of the major reasons my niece and nephew attend SHM is because of their French immersion program. When a French teacher speaks with the children it's only been in French and every time my niece and nephew have responded in French! I've definitely witnessed them speaking more French at home and feel like our family is getting our money's worth. The days when I do drop off the kids the Head of School, Ms. Tracey, has been nothing but sweet and respectful to adults and children. Ms. Tracey takes the time to have a conversation and check in with each adult dropping off a student. This staff at SHM have truly made my family feel like we're a part of their wonderful community. Several students took us around and showed us all the classrooms including Nursery (full day and half day - 2 separate classes). We were able to ask questions directly to the students, speak with the teachers and see the teacher interact with children. At the end of the open house, the Principal shared the school's vision, mission and goals. She also mentioned to us that several 8th graders were accepted at top high schools in New York including Townsend Harris High School and Stuyvesant High School. This school has up to 20 students per class. They have an early drop off and late pick up program, but they do not offer lunch. Parents can sign up children to take different classes (tennis, hockey, etc) during the after school program.

The teachers are very well-qualified, responsive to the children (they "meet the kids where they are") and assign an appropriate / varying levels of homework.  The small size of the very diverse student body (less than 400 kids from early childhood (3 years old) to eighth grade allows each student to know one another and to be known by the teachers/administrators.  There are never any "back to school nerves" at our house!  Excellent music program, afterschool enrichment classes + afterschool care available.  Though we have very good public schools in the area, there is no comparison to the quality of what SSCA provides.  Easy to access on F, G train (lots of kids travel on public transportation/school bus).  Kids have time outside either in an "open streets" access or via a short walk to Prospect Park.  Very devoted parents/alumni.  Current 8th grade class has received a small fortune in scholarships to top Catholic + specialized high schools.  A gem of a school.  Check it out!

I've had the pleasure of sending multiple children to LGM over the last 7 years from their 2 year old "Discoverer's" program through their 3-5 year old Pre-K program -- and have never thought twice about sending our kids elsewhere. If you are interested in Montessori, it's true Montessori. (Note: being a Montessori school/kid doesn't mean stale/sterile learning environments!! It's engaging, fun, and has all the normal aspects of a pre-school but within a beautiful structure). If you are interested in academics, my kids all went to Kindergarten at public schools after LGM and were reading and had math skills ahead of the curve. Can't recommend LGM enough to any family with young children!
