As a millennium, I didn't even know that Television was in Black & White. But I do remember, when I've watched my favorite shows such as The X files, The Lone Ranger, Charlie Angels or sometimes with my family, I've to watch the boring soaps like Dynasty. The television culture is more than just a show. It's a family gathering, learning identities, and also primarial source for information back in my childhood. IMHO, this could better than bombarded by social media (s). What is unfolding would make you very happy in Saban Media Center. According to Emmy's official website, this theater has been celebrating 70 year of Television. As a member of Sag-Aftra & Television Academy, I'd be honored to attend events here. The Wolf Theater at Saban Media can host 600 seats for the screening event. The breeze around the garden and the vibe is so serendipitous in the TV academy. The Wolf Theater is named after Dick and Noelle Wolf. This is one of my favorite places in North Hollywood and the invitation only for the industry people. Though, mostly you could bring your significant other from time to time depending on the event. There's plenty of up-scale restaurants around Noho if you've done and grab a bite later on. But Dive Bars? Here it's tips; The Brickyard, Risky Business (my fav) and even El Tejano, the spicy mexican night bar or if you're looking for action, The Bullet Bar is quite well-known for LGBTQA+. You don't need to go down Studio City or Toluca Lake. Literally 5 minute walk from TV Academy. The NoHo becomes hit for youngsters and glad that TV Academy made the right choice to called home here in North Hollywood. This Saban Media Center is exquisite and this is your time to shine how sophisticated you can be with your plus one. I'll close out with true appreciation for Saban Media Center at Television Academy and many more to come. See you 2025 ! ! !

I went here recently for a screening, and the theater they have is beautiful. It's large, the seats are very comfortable. Very, very nice. They have screenings, talkbacks, and plenty of other fun industry things that go on here. The exterior of the complex is also quite nice. It almost makes you forget that you're in the heart of North Hollywood. There is also a parking garage, which offers a discounted rate if you are attending a screening (it is also open to the public). I had a lovely time visiting here and hope I can be back soon.

G4 is/was (mercifully killed last month by Comcast) a cable channel for gamers offering opinion and insight into the new hardware and software of the moment. This was an offering full of digital earnestness as the male hosts were all bald with thick rimmed glasses (a classic techno-geek tell) and the women were all very loud goths. There are high school AV squads who would never tolerate such stereotyping and unprofessionalism. Audiences were intolerant as well as the channel was habitually mired in last place among the 200+ channels measured by Nielsen drawing 1,000 viewers per hour in prime time. There were probably three times as many viewers watching Romanian table tennis over on the Olympic Channel. I don't believe in euthanasia but Comcast definitely made the right call. Gaming holds no interest for me but I suspect that if you're into Call of Duty inspired slaughter and bloodlust you'd much rather do it than watch three bald idiots talk about it. I'll always be a fan of "what were they thinking" absurdity but you really have to question Comcast's professional judgment for greenlighting this digital roadkill. One anonymous star.

You done yet? No? Okay, I'll give you another minute. ... Alright. Now that you got that out of the way, I can start my review. I'm a gamer, I like tech gadgets even though I can't afford it, so naturally I love G4. In fact, it's the station I watch the most lately. I used to watch a lot of animal planet, food network, and cartoon network, but G4 has taken over. Now, I don't love EVERYTHING about G4. Some of the shows I like: - Cinematech: Nocturnal Emissions. A show that showcases clips from various video games. A heavier, more adult oriented version of cinematech. - Attack of the show. A talk show (?) that gives you news and updates about pop culture, video games and technology. A little secret; I like staring at Olivia Munn's boobs. They're so nice, I can't help it. - X-Play. A video game review show. I love Morgan and her witty humor. Sessler? Not so much. His voice kinda annoys me. - Ninja Warrior a.k.a. Sasuke. A Japanese obstacle course competition show, kinda like American Gladiator, but better. Competitors range from bulky musclemen to adult video model to 80 year old grampa. - Special coverage shows such as Tokyo Game Show coverage and E3 coverage. - Wired for sex. Interesting and somewhat educational. It's a documentary after all. Shows I don't give a shit about: - Code Monkeys. An animated cartoon comedy using 8 bit graphics. NOT FUNNY. Stupid, sexist, racist, and just overall not funny. - COPS. Do we really need another station showing this show? - Cheaters. See COPS. - Star Trek. My fiance loves it. I hate it. It kinda balances out. - Arrested Development. Never cared about this show. - Cheat. Not to be confused with cheaters. A show that gives you cheats for video games. Who needs it when you have gamefaqs.com?? This show is stupid. But Kristin Holt needs a job, I guess. - Street Fury. Ugh. The host reminds me of snoop dogg. Good to watch if you're into asian chicks. - Some other stuff I really don't care about so I can't even remember their names. So there you have it, my review of my current favorite TV station. Did I just bring myself into the next level of dorkiness?

You can watch the previous day's "Le Journal" (news edition, 25 minutes long) on the website: http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/info/jt_tv5.php Not only that, various other programs can be viewed there as well, ones that the viewer might have missed, e.g., "Kiosque," which brings together journalists from around the world, for 90 minutes, for a round-table discussion on the major news events of the past week. There also appears to be a year's archive of "L'invite," which interviews prominent French public figures, to watch at one's discretion. One example of this dedication to providing its audience with serious programming was its interview with Dr. Mohamed El Baradei, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (and recipient of the 2005 Nobel Prize for peace) . It is posted in its entirety here: http://www.tv5.org/TV5Site/internationales/emission-13-Internationales.htm In contrast, I turned to www.cnn.org to see what videos were available for viewing. What I found were a bunch of 1.5 to 3 minute snippets. On www.msnbc.com to watch a 2-3 minute short video, the viewer must wade through about 20 seconds of commercials. CBS's Sixty Minutes, on the other hand, apparently has previous week's programming archived for immediate viewing on its website. On the half-hour nightly news, NBC, ABC, and CBS have probably have a total of 18 minutes of actual programming, with a total of four commercial breaks. How is it that the francophone cable television clearly beats any American television network (or its affiliated website) in terms of actual news programming, both in terms of content, quality, and quantity. (It also should be noted that France, the driving force behind TV-5, has about 1/5 the total population of the U.S., proving the point that size is not necessarily an indication of quality). Why do Americans have so short an attention span? How can we expect to make wise decisions when our news comes in sound-bites? Why is the upper limit of our tolerance--when it comes to news, at least, no more than 7 minutes? On the other hand, why do we tolerate so much high-decibel crass advertising thrown in our faces when it only serves to spur the very consumption that are threatening the quality of life on this planet? Clearly, TV5 is much closer to a PBS affiliate in the U.S. (there is greater variety in the programming). Now that we have a new Administration, I am wondering if we may see a shift in our priorities as a country, with a larger public sector to counterbalance the private sector that failed us in so many ways during the previous eight years (of George W).

Check your local PBS station. Lucy Worsley has the knack of being scholarly and tremendously whimsical all at once. An excellent Christmas offering, Ms. Worsley presents the customs (sometimes horrifying feasting, but perhaps not to gourmands) of sixteenth century English life. Insight into Henry VIII's demands and requirements (there is no "off with her head" here) do differ greatly, but things never do change really. Seeking merriment might not have been easy for the regular folk, but seek they did. The twelve days of Christmas, as some may know, begins on Christmas and ends on January 5 as we see while following Ms. Worsley through the days. While not discussed in this program, the very familiar Christmas song, the "Twelve Days of Christmas" has a hidden meaning, often liturgical, behind each verse.

PTV I suppose deals only with the TV service media companies/providers, so you can't deal with them directly, except through your cable or dish network or satellite TV provider. I'm sure these guys are also responsible for the local TV commercials for nearby businesses (all of them within the Monterey Park, Arcadia, San Gabriel). In the San Francisco Bay Area, one can subscribe to Zhong Tian via ComCrap, channel 243. However the monthly fee this wonderful cable provider charges (about the opportunity cost of a shade over a $10 BJ on the East side, or about 4 to 5 Egg McMuffins), they "throw in" Channel 244 which is CCTV if I remember correctly, a mainland China cable station. I don't watch Ch 244 as the content does not appeal to me, but 243 has a real wide variety of content, from the mundane, to the mildly interesting, and then to the useful, the funny, the cool, and some real whacked up shit. Zhong Tian bills itself as a TV channel (subscription cable at least in Taiwan alone) that specializes in variety. However the choice of programming ironically offered through BombCrap cable, says otherwise. Interestingly PTV and ComCrap don't localize the TV commercials, so you're getting Southern Cal Chinese businesses commercials shown on SF Bay Area Ch 243. Does me no good. Here's a sample of programming that Zhong Tian has offered via Bombcrap from the past 5 years. The mundane: I don't know about you but when I'm paying through my ass for cable content with a special package that includes this channel, I'd like to see MORE variety. Maybe BombCrap is to blame, as the same 3 to 4 shows are repeated on Saturdays and Sundays. This FKKKs up the guide as I set to record a show on series and it counts the repeats as well, or some shows that occur once a week for some reason I can't double click to series record. The useful: Travel shows, such as hosts from Taiwan travel to different parts of China. Some ladies might like a few of the "girly tawk" kind of shows that deal with relationship issues to beauty to skin care to fashion tips (some are DIY that would make Forever 21 look hip....) The funny: One of my favorites is "Big Brother of Entertainment", a local talk show variety host by the name of Zhang Fei. He's a superb entertainer, makes up schtick on the spot, is superbly comedic and especially perverse when he has a bevy of ladies on his show (with the camera man always zooming in on the chests and legs...). He's like a Taiwanese Benny Hill with some Johnny Carson presence. Celebs often appear on the show to perform or to promote, and ditto for local talent from gymnastics, chefs, magicians and the ilk. The cool: a show called Taiwan Oprah who I thought was the transsexual, but is actually someone else. Her format may be similar to that of the American Oprah, and interviews famous Hong Kong and Taiwan celebrities, but goes beyond the surface and digs deep into personal issues, childhood memories and even finds friends and contacts from their past to appear as secret guests. The food shows (far and few between these days) are always interesting, going to regional places in Taiwan and sampling local delicacies, from a simple vendor to shops/restaurants/stalls that span 100 years or more. The whacked up shit: Red Storm....a show that I thought was the "Oprah" of Taiwan. Well maybe he/she claims to be. It's Li Ching, a person born as a dude who now identifies as a woman and dresses as one. I have no idea if she is a transvestite or a pre/post op transsexual, but really tries to act sisterly with the female guests. All I can say is that her voice is very very deep.... On some days she can look respectable and pass off as a woman. And on other days, it is totally no so hot, but major Tranny Mess. The best of them all? I'd say the local news broadcasts that are sometimes streamed live. Not only do you have politics, entertainment and local news and the ilk, but the news format is a bit of a variety show in itself with a strong theme in sensationalism. Some of the stuff that passes for news coverage is quite embarassing these days, that range from a 65 year old grandma wearing skimpy Forever 21 whore it up clothing to help sell street food, to a dude in his 50s being clubbed by his neighbor because he got into a heated verbal dispute with him as to who was the better presidential candidate (another example of people overly passionate about their politics and willing to choke a bitch over a disagreement). Hey it's their world, not ours.
