While working on the driveway, they discovered that the existing drain was not actually a French drain and that the piping was blocked with dirt. Alfonso explained the issue and offered a solution that worked wonderfully. They removed the old concrete along the side of the house and installed a proper French drain. I really appreciated that they didn't just complete the original scope of work--they helped us solve a problem we didn't even realize we had. We did hit a snag when the Shamrock Concrete drivers went on strike, but Alfonso kept us informed throughout the delay and was very transparent about what was happening. At the last minute, I also asked if they could repair a cracked set of stairs at my old house before our home inspections. Alfonso and his team were able to fit the additional work into their schedule and get it done in time, which I greatly appreciated. They also did a great job matching the color of the repaired stairs as closely as possible to the existing concrete deck, so the repair blended in really well. He came 2 years ago and gave us an estimate, but it took us a while to raise the funds necessary for the new pavement. Meanwhile we had gotten estimates from competitors - some less than Gateway and some more. Some of these were only going to clean up the old roadway, put down tacking oil and then repave with 2 inches of asphalt. Gateway cleaned up, firmed up, added gravel and in general did a professional job of preparing the roadway before asphalting with 3 1/2 inches. They have all of the giant "tonka toys" needed to do an excellent job, plenty of workers, and lots of experience. Jeff responded to every request.
