I hadn't seen it before so I had to go in. The smells of freshly baked good flooded out of the doorway as I approached and when I entered I was stoked by what I saw. A cornucopia of cupcakes, breads, cakes and pies all met me. The hardest thing for me was to choose something. In the end I got half a dozen cupcakes of various flavours and looks and when I got hot to my wife we devoured them like greedy children. What a discovery. No more will I have go to the unnamed chain that has the prime spot on the main road. I have found a place that makes homemade savoury delights with some love and care. She sometimes gave in and when she did, I was in heaven. It has to compete with Brumby's around the corner but I think Sweetie Pies is a real local treasure in Everton Park. There are always yummy cupcakes and cakes wrapped up and ready to go for any passer-by and as a local business, I am more than willing to support them and commend them for their lovely food and ridiculously cheap prices. They hail from Byron Bay and focus on the healthier side of yoghurt with additional breakfast options like paleo Bircher bowls. Those in the froyo know will take to the set up like ducks to water. 1. Pick up your cup. It's a one-size fits all affair. 2. Fill cup with your selected yoghurt. There were 5 or 6 flavours when I visited and range from fat free, dairy free and all are gluten free. Flavours included coconut, strawberry, mango, choc-hazelnut and plain. I made a healthy yogurt version of the Aussie neopolitan Classic with the strawberry, coconut and choc-hazelnut. While you'd easily stop me and say, "But isn't it just another frozen yoghurt place?" and I'd be inclined to agree, I also feel it's important to point out these guys yoghurt did taste far less sugary sweet than others I've had. 3. Select your toppings! YoFlo's toppings do stand to be healthier than most. Fruit, seed and nut mixes take precedence over the very limited sugary toppings like brownie squares and M&Ms. 4. Of course we said yes and it was delicious (mine was a unique take on Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce that hit the right level of creaminess). Typically however I'd order poached eggs on toast, sausages and mushrooms here - because I love a standard hot breakfast, no matter what time of day. So as it was, I found myself in between meetings a few Friday afternoons ago and when faced with the decision to sit in one of the new casual bars along Oxford Street or try Nom Nom, I opted for the lure of freshly made on-site gelato. A regular cup with two flavours of salted caramel and coffee to be precise. There's not many aires and graces in store but who needs fanciful distractions when the product is this good. The gelato is made on-site daily and is the result of the owner's study of gelato making in Italy and desire to bring what he'd learnt back home. The fruits of his labour show in a well-edited range of flavours from classic vanilla bean to more trend-driven combinations. Either way, given the high quality ingredients you don't need much to enjoy this gelato. Take a small cup, fill with your favourite flavour and wander down to perch yourself in the park. It's the perfect antidote to a busy day and certainly brings you back down to earth!

The lady serving was lovely and attentive but I felt bad that I had to ask her to repeat the pie flavours because I could not quite understand what she was saying through her thick accent. The pie was the not he best I have ever had but definitely affordable and adequate. Sitting outside, I was pestered by a magpie who obviously intimidates enough customers there to be fed regularly enough. Overall, this was a nice enough bakery.

Trust me when I say she wants to make sure she's getting your order right. So after a few minutes, I strolled away eating into a pie that has been the same since Monticlaire opened.
