The area around the Abbey Centre has grown over the last few years to become as much of a draw as the shopping centre itself. My first stop is always the huge branch of TK Maxx. How I love that shop, with its shoes and home wares and clothes and jewellery and stuff, stuff, stuff. Always a bargain to be had - I even lugged a huge chest of drawers out of there once. After paying for it of course. Curse those efficient security guards. There is a branch of every high street shop you can think of - Mothercare, Pets at Home, M&S, Tesco, JJB Sports, Matalan to name a few. I always like a look around Matalan where there are some bargains in ladies and children's clothes and a selection of birthday cards and invitations which has to be seen to be believed. Make a quick pit stop in McDs and you'll be ready for round 2 in the shopping centre itself. The Abbey Centre is pretty big, with several different 'wings' coming off the central point. Highlights for me are River Island, the bargain emporium that is Primark, Top Shop and Wallis. Apart from clothes, I also like going to the Abbey Centre for books - Stewart Miller and Easons always have offers on new releases. Ah, my good old friend, the Abbeycentre. How I love it. Just a short trip up the road from me, I have been shopping here for as long as I can remember, and take a browse around its' many shops at least once a month. There is a large amount of on site parking, so you can usually get parked with ease (unless you go stright after Christmas when the January Sales are in full swing) then its an absolute free for all! There are many shops here to suit all pockets, from sport shops, to fashion clothing, from banks to mobile phone and gaming shops, from card and gift shops to butchers, you will get pretty much anything you want at the Abbeycentre, without the headache travelling into the city centre can bring. There is even a new Poundland store for some of the old bargain hunting. And long may it continue! read more

It's a shopping centre in the heart of netiwnsbbey. Ah, so that's were they got the name from. Clever marketing people. It has a range of retail outlets as well as a food court and a few coffee shops. There are large outlets on the vicinity of the abbeycentre. Both the centre itself and our outlying stores have car parking. read more

Wow this shopping centre is huge, theres lots and lots of stores in here, there's clothes shops, book shops, butchers, bakerys, coffee shops , chemists, key cutters you name it its there. Theres lots of free parking outside. Its an unusual layout of a shopping centre but it works. There is a foodhall upstairs with kfc, burger king and a few other eateries. There is a lift or stairs to the foodhall also there's a doctors surgery upstairs too. Great big shopping centre with plenty of choice, one of my favourites places to shop. read more

I remember always coming here with my family if we couldn't be bothered with the crowds at Victoria Square. All that it took to get to come were the words "Sweetie Miller!" Speaking of good old Sweetie Miller, it's still there and is as good as ever. The front part pays host to sweeties and books and the back boasts a huge toy shop. That was one of the only places I actually went in this centre, along with Burger King and Primark. From what I can recall, there was a massive Dunnes Stores, a big BHS (sadly going away soon) and a medium size Next. The foodcourt had some good names like Burger King, KFC, Subway and O'Briens on its roster and there were a lot of seats. The toilets are a bit of a trek, up 2 flights of steep stairs. But they were always clean and had frequent checks done on them. The Primark is quite large but is nowhere near as big as the city centre store. What I like about this centre is that everything except the toilets and the car park is all on one level and you can easily get around the place. If you have kids in tow, just bribe them with a visit to Sweetie Miller. They will enjoy their visit to the Abbey Centre. read more

The Abbey Centre is my local shopping centre I suppose. And I also suppose that I'm pretty lucky to have it here on my doorstep. There's pretty much every shop you might need - Topshop, HMV, Dunnes, Boots, Primark. It's gone through lots of refurbishment in recent years, so most of it is bright and airy - all you want in a shopping centre. It has also benefited from the development of the surrounding area. There's a huge 24hour Tesco, a Marks & Spencer, B&Q, PC World and Homebase in walking distance. The traffic can be a bit of a nightmare on the weekends because most of the Newtownabbey inhabitants will descend on the Abbey Centre area for one thing or another. I personally prefer the city centre for my own shopping, but with free parking and the ability to get everything from groceries to clothes in the vicinity, the Abbey Centre is a very attractive option. read more

My daughter was craving chips so I popped into the centre with her and treated her to fries from KFC. She was chuffed and I must admit it's been a while since I've paid the centre a visit and was impressed. Good shops, decent but small food court and free car parking. The one way system takes a bit of getting used to!! There is still construction going on, wonder when it will b ready? read more

Pretty good range of stores to choose from! This would be a weekly place for me to visit and it's the closest shopping centre to me. Next, primark and dv8 would be the main stores i would stop by and they always have a big range to choose from. Primark can be a little manic at times and also a tad messy! Which sends me into a panic but if you know what you are looking for its best to just beeline for that and avoid rummaging through everything! A fav for the kids and I everytime we visit it o get some strawberries and chocolate from thorntons! They are amazing! read more

I love the abbeycentre! I've always shopped in this place since I was little as it's quite local, and has a variety of good fashion shops. I especially love the big primark, as well as the Claire's accessories and Internationale. It has also recently introduced a TopShop and TopMan, which has attracted a lot more shoppers. There is lots of free parking outside, as well as a variety of cafes to relax and have a cuppa in. Alternatively you could visit the food court and enjoy a KFC, Burger King or Chinese Food meal. This is a good, reliable shopping centre where you are almost certain to find something you like because of the broad range of shops available. read more

Over the years the Abbey Centre has developed and changed keeping up with the times. This is good to see as it's a very popular place for shopping on the edge of the city. I've lived around here since I was born and so I've witnessed first hand the development and regeneration of the area which has come on leaps and bounds over the years. Currently the Centre houses a number of High Street shops as well as smaller, independent stores. There's also a great food court for employees and people tired of shopping. The food court does some great food. There's definitely any amount of shops, finding them is the difficult bit. Abbey centre is a maze and its hard to describe the layout. Parking can be an issue as there's building work going on at the moment .loads of choice of shops but it must have had a crazy architect design it. read more

I'm probably in here every week for some reason or another. It's just off the motorway to Belfast and caters for clothes, card, presents, food, medicine, holidays, and more. It's pretty clean but the parking can be a bit mad at times. Try to get parked on the roof. The multi storey is usually pretty quiet! read more

You have to love abbey centre it has all the shops u might need and anything it doesnt have it has them ain the retail units surrounding the centre! They food court is great and you get the most elicious ice cream from here! Parking and traffic can be a bit nightmarish tho! read more

I used to go here the odd time to get things, it has most of everything I've needed. I would have given it four stars but they have since started charging for parking. Now it only gets one star and I won't be back. From what I've heard they charge employees to park as well. read more

Over the years, the Abbeycentre has become a totally massive sprawling monster in the middle of Newtownabbey, with more and more shops popping up inside its many corridors and wings. It has every shop you might need, from Boots chemist to River Island and Bargain Books. It even has a Chinese Herbal Acupuncture branch! The parking is and always has been totally free which is a real bonus so you don't feel the need to run in and out really quickly because you can't afford to park, but over the years the parking has got very congested and it can take a while to get a space. It also has a new food court, with an O'Brien's, a KFC, a Burger King, and a Chinese Takeaway - none of them the healthiest, but who is complaining? It's always very clean and well maintained and there are handy lifts for the roof parking access. If you don't have the energy or time to go into the city centre then the Abbeycentre is a good alternative. read more
