Gianni is the reason I keep coming back to AANUKO. A year and a half in and I'm not going anywhere. I have thick wavy hair and more cowlicks than one head should be allowed. I'd been getting the same high fade for a decade and wanted to try the longer wave thing everyone's doing. The first barber I asked for it butchered it, mostly because he'd never done a long cut in his life. Gianni took one look, diagnosed what was actually going on up there, and got me to a halfway cut. A couple months later, the cut grew in as he planned and he took me from 80 to 100%, right in time for my vow renewal. His profile calls him the brushback king and I couldn't agree more. Fair warning: he's meticulous, so plan on real time in the chair. You get what you pay for! Also book ahead. At least a month, in my experience. Gianni's popular and I've never once seen anyone get off the waitlist. The shop itself is worth the trip on its own. Great furniture, plants everywhere, and a back patio you can sit on if you're early or just want to hang. Vibes and the place is always clean. Their systems are top notch too. Plenty of notice before your appointment, everything organized, they offer you a drink when you sit down, and they use good products from the wash through the styling. The host is always so nice, everyone there is personable, and the music's great. One heads up: no parking lot. I moved from West Hollywood to the west side a while back and have been struggling to find a new salon ever since. That search is officially over. First of all, the space is stunning. Spacious, clean, incredible vibe. The receptionist offered me a whole spread of refreshments, which I needed badly since this was my first day back at work after two weeks in Spain. The caffeine pick me up might have been more urgent than the haircut, and my haircut was very overdue. Then I found out the salon is owned by Hanz de Fuko, which I only recently discovered and had been ordering off Amazon after a friend put me on. I literally bought Quicksand yesterday because I am obsessed with Claymation. They were running a promotion where booking your next cut gets you complimentary product, so I got my favorite product as a thank you for doing something I was going to do anyway. I came here yesterday for a haircut with Dima. I arrived a few minutes early and he was ready on the dot; we had a brief discussion about what I wanted and ended up with exactly that. I'm not a hairstylist so I don't really know how to properly evaluate their technique and craft other than by how much I like the result, but Dima was very meticulous and focused with both the scissors on the top and the clippers on the sides. I also got some explanations on the different ways of how to get a fade, which was a first for me and gave me confidence that we're both on the same page. The front desk staff was nice and offered me a drink from their menu. There's only (mostly metered) street parking available, but I didn't have a hard time finding a spot on a Wednesday morning, however, I could see this potentially being an issue during busier times. She listened to him and went over examples of the look he wanted and took the time to make sure it turned out exactly how he envisioned it. I've spent hundreds--if not thousands--of dollars at this barbershop over the years, consistently booking with the same barber and being a loyal customer. Unfortunately, one appointment ran about 30 minutes late because a work meeting went longer than expected. Instead of showing any flexibility for a long-time customer, I was told I couldn't book another appointment until I paid a $50 no-show/late fee. While I understand having a policy in place, I genuinely expected some consideration given the amount of business I've brought them over the years. There was none. I paid the fee, but after that interaction, I told them not to bother rescheduling because I would no longer be using their services. They chose to prioritize a one-time $50 charge over a loyal customer who had spent thousands with them and would have continued doing so. Policies are important, but so is customer loyalty. Very disappointing experience and a poor way to treat long-term clients. read more

I booked an appointment with Nava and had such a wonderful and positive experience. I was quite nervous since my hair texture is very straight and fine, which I know can be challenging to work with. He was very reassuring and took in all the considerations and concerns I had. Went with a mid to low drop fade (it was my first time getting an actual fade, was very excited at the end result!), and a textured fringe. Prior to this, I had to style my hair with heat (curling) in order to achieve more volume and texture. Nava did such a great job giving my hair a lot of texture without taking off too much length. I was able to style my natural hair texture with more ease and confidence, which is something that I've been wanting for a long time. I really want to give this place 1 more chance before deciding this place is not for me. I have had 3 different barbers here and didn't have the best experience. The place is great! the aesthetic definitely 1 of a kind, Never seen a barbershop as cool as this one, sadly, The barbers are the reason I'm leaving this review. 1st barber, the haircuts were good. I would come often but he no showed me twice and cancel another time but never attempted to remediate this. 2nd. it was a last minute haircut. he was new at the time. he was a nice guy. I didn't love the haircut so I knew I was not going to choose him again. today. I had a different barber who couldn't follow instructions. I asked for a fade on the sides and gave me a disconnect "Fade" it feels like my hair starts higher on my head that it should be. He also brushed my hair back and cut it from the back, I have a faux hawk hairstyle and it goes forward. never had a barber brush my hair to the back and cut it like that. After today. It is safe to say I'm not coming back. Not really worth the $80+ hair cut. read more
