I was a little scared by the several bad ratings for this AAA, but happily I found that the reality (for my visit, at least) was completely five-star. I showed up five minutes after they opened, on a Monday, and the parking lot already had more than 10 cars, so I was worried I would have to wait. When I got inside, I counted 4 people manning the counters, and 7 customers. I waited less than five minutes to be called to the counter, and Ida (not sure of the spelling) the agent was very pleasant and efficient. I was there to get an international driving policy, and Ida filled out my forms, took my payment of $36, took my two passport photos, and I was out the door in about 20 minutes total. Stopped in when I heard the office provides DMV services. Didn't realize I needed to schedule an online appointment and when I was about to walk out the staff graciously offered to assisted me ( office not too busy ) with a car re-registration Both Veronica and Christine were both professional, pleasant and customer service oriented. Providing DMV services at the office saved me time and aggravation. New York charges alot these days but that's to be expected in this state. Overall AAA office is conveniently located off Route 347 offering both travel and DMV services. The associates are knowledgeable and extremely helpful. read more

For 25+ years I drove by AAA - Smithtown saying to myself, who the heck uses AAA? New cars come with free towing! Planning out a trip, why do you need printed maps? I relegated AAA to my grandfathers time, its was good then but when you have GPS in your car, there's no need for this service. Then I had to go to Germany over the summer. You just can't rent a car overseas, drive to castles and visit historic spots. You need to have the proper papers! How the heck to you get a temporary drivers license to buzz around Europe? I look on the web and found out that any AAA can provide the proper licenses needed to get in the drivers seat. Did you know there is a scaled down US DMV at AAA - Smithtown? I was born here in the USA. I have been married over 20+ years. I was trying to get Real ID (for another money grab by the NYSDMV/NY State/Federal Government). I was told I need to show proof of name change due to marriage. Wow. I can't even describe the discrimination against women who decide to take their husband's name! My passport (expired), current driver's license and social security card all have my married name listed. I had to provide ALL official documents to get the PASSPORT, the CURRENT DRIVER'S LICENSE and the SOCIAL SECURITY CARD issued to begin with. Why am I having to prove my identity all over again?! I even brought a birth certificate (with my maiden name)! They still would not allow me to process my application for a REAL/ENHANCED ID and also stated that the CHURCH marriage certificate I provided means NOTHING to the government. What? What's happening to this world? The representative assisting me stated " You need to contact your congressman" if you want to change the system. What is happening to the USA? I have been driving for decades and have served as a civil servant for over 20 years! This is outrageous. I had to leave and schedule another appointment, waste time, gas and money to prove to strangers that I am who I am? I already told you, showed you and proved to you years ago that I am ME! Just scan my retina for G's sake!!! If I was a man, this would have been over in 10 minutes, not weeks! Stop by twice to surrender a plate. All they got to do is take in my plate and issue a receipt. Nope. They told me 45 minute wait the first time and 2nd time I stopped by at 4:15 and they said dmv closes at 4 pm. Looking for all sort of excuses to just not take in a plate. I'm cancelling my membership. read more

The key is to be there at 7:30 am like I did (LOL). They only take a certain amount of walk-ins, so if you are one of the first 15? on line you will get your stuff done. The service overall was good and after an hour and a half I was done with my new reggie/plate transfer. So, I have to give them 5 stars. NYDMV is a train-wreck right now with the idiotic ID thing. People who need a vehicle to work and survive can't get it done at DMV. You can't make it up!! read more

I went to the Triple AAA in Smithtown . I had a DMV appointment. and the woman initially helped with an update for a license . She then had me wait over 45 minutes while she helped another customer that was already being helped by a Triple AAA employee. I should have gone to the DMV and I would have gotten better service. read more

Checked constantly for 10 days Eventually told to show up as standby ie plan on significantly loooooong wait Brought documents to register auto at AAA as per nydmv website After sitting for two plus hours and having to return to back of line after already waiting in said line was told my documents were incorrect After no luck I receive a email from manager saying they are a partner of dmv but not a dmv ?? WTF does that mean !! It reads register auto as a service on website Spoke to dmv person and dealer via phone upon leaving and told that all documents were correct and no reason aaa couldn't have registered auto. Had an appointment.... Tried to call to reschedule but they DO NOT answer the phone. So I made it my business to get here at my appointment time. Walked into an empty store to be told that the terminal is down and they can't even help us anyway. She could be as sorry as she wants..They could have and should have called us. I will not be using this facility again. I really don't understand how you could accept an appointment, make people drive there and then not be able to provide the service. Terrible Customer Service for the Smithtown Branch. Cant get routed to the correct branch because the phone number for the Smithtown branch is answered off site. They say they will transfer you and either the call drops or no one answers the phone during business hours. read more

Not for travel. First agent left AAA and switched to a second one that started ok but then never returned emails or calls and didn't even get in touch before or after the trip to make sure everything was good. Basically did everything on our own. read more

We hadn't been to the office in a few years and was pleasantly surprised to see that the whole place had a make over! We came here to get airline reservations and the representative Cathy Pomales was amazing. She was so friendly and bubbly and answered all our questions without hesitation. Cathy is a real asset to that office that's for sure and I will be going back to her when we travel again. read more

I just left the Smithtown Branch of AAA. I was there 5 minutes to close, and was looking to buy an ez-pass. We were informed by the woman behind the counter that we would need a AAA membership. My husband and I agreed we would get one. The woman became very hostile and slammed the papers across the table and came up with every excuse as to why It would be difficult for us to register our ez-pass. We could tell she was not happy about us being there so late. So I told my husband to just forget It, and that we would leave. As we were leaving I said "Not for nothing, It doesn't really seem like you want to be doing this" and she said "well we do close in 5 minutes" and I replied. "That's no excuse for being rude" we left. In my opinion, she should have asked us to return the following day instead of being outwardly hostile to the point of being haughty. They lost a possible customer and I will make sure that nobody I know uses that branch. The behavior was simply abysmal and I hope It does not reflect the views of the entire company. read more

Worst experience. It was 1:00 am i had just pulled into a gas station after commuting home from work in Manhattan. My keys got stuck in my car. I called for roadside assistance and waited for up to almost two hours. I called again and they said they forgot and no one was coming. I then asked how much it would cost and they said 400 DOLLARS. I live in port Jefferson and that is not even a 15 minute drive from their office only for me to get some keys out of my car. I then had to walk home in the rain and break through my window at 3:30 in the morning. Thank god the gas station employee let me leave my car until the next day. You were no help, insanely overpriced and unreliable. do not recommend. read more

One of the few AAA customer service centers in the tri state area. This place hasn't changed in God knows how long. It looks the same from the time I came in with my dad when we went to Hershey park in 2004 LOL. They have a bunch of outdated and unwanted travel items for sale right when you enter in against the wall. You walk up and tell the person what your there for and for what region. The lady I worked with got the job done quietly but didn't make much conversation or eye contact. She got me a hella nice deal on a 3 day rental car service for Los Angeles which was nice. I always like going in person for discounted stuff because they'll explain what works what doesn't. read more

This AAA time has passed. My family and I have been a member for a number of years. We had an issue in Jan 2019, in PA, our son graduated and my wife and I helped him move back to NY. His car broke down in western PA almost on the Ohio border. Called AAA and they had no clue what to do or who we could call. We were given 2 names. the 1st was a tire store who did not do car repairs, the second was a car dealer. Called back and was given 2 more names, both could not help us. We went to a local town and had the car towed and repaired. When I called Smithtown to file a complaint I was told "why do you want to get someone in trouble, you had the car fixed, that's all that matters" I pay a yearly fee for the service and a fee for the other vehicles, I expect better. The woman never called back, I tried to follow up, they really dont care, once they have your money you are pretty much on your own. Stay away this place is circling the drain. read more
