Called the AAA Lowell and as usual, a long automated message came up after a wait of a few minutes. Then a menu followed with more automated messages and another wait period. After 7 to 8 minutes or more, I did get my answer. Currency exchange services require a waiting period of a week or more. read more

I made an appointment online to renew my driver's license. Lowell was chosen because it had open appointments. I squeezed my tiny car into a tiny parking space in front of the AAA building. I was greeted by one of two gatekeepers who ordered me to produce my birth certificate. She announced that my certificate was lacking a seal. That's because the state issued photostats in that era and didn't affix a seal. She ignored the certificate number at the top of the page but conferred with the other gatekeeper who also ignored the certificate number. I was ordered to get a new birth certificate from New York City for the license renewal to go forward. I was later notified by AAA that birth certificates must display the certificate number for the document to be valid. The original birth certificate I presented clearly showed certificate numbers in the upper right hand corner of the document. Cost: $41.00 for a new birth certificate 50.00 license renewal (completed at another AAA location.) 15.00 for gas to and from Lowell Total $106.00 My recommendation is that people avoid the Lowell AAA RMV. read more

Came in on Saturday to get a quote for auto insurance, was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and care given by Jacklyn . The wait was about 20ish minutes but once it was our turn Jacklyn really took the time to make sure we knew our options and what we exactly we were paying for. We signed up for a new policy on the spot. Jacklyn found us something that was a significantly better price with better coverage then we previous had and gave us clear instructions on how to switch over. I made an appointment to have the title change to my name after paying off the vehicle. I looked under the list at AAA to see if they provided the service. I called the Lowell branch of AAA. I was assured that this is something they could do. I was told to make an appointment. Waited the two weeks for the appointment went into AAA and was told that this is something that they do not handle. What a waste of time. I would've preferred to speak to the person who handles the registry paperwork but never made it passed the customer service. I didn't get an apology for misinformation. It's the second time I've been in that branch and they couldn't help either time. Love the roadside service that's about all that good for. read more

Registry services at this AAA facility are sub-standard. The Lawrence Mass DMV facility would, despite the drive, have been a faster/more satisfactory service experience. Although many AAA members appear to go there to renew drivers licences and registrations (there is frequently a line of 4-6 patrons waiting in line), AAA staffs the function with just one employee/workstation. There is no management of those waiting (no deli-like "take a number/now serving"); clients "sit" in line and play musical chairs as clients are serviced, prompting newly arrived walk-ins to frequently jump the queue. My experience today, renewing a driver's license, included an 87 minute wait in queue. During that time, the sole AAA agent was easily distracted, accommodated people who wandered in/jumped the queue and did not exhibit any sense of keeping things moving. read more

Had to renew my license & EVERYONE talks about how you can do it at the local AAA Office (least in my family, all being members) & it's SO MUCH FASTER than the Registry. Maybe...maybe not. Depends on the day is my personal experience. Went in & was greeted immediately by one of the three people behind the "service desk". This One Guy was on it, the other two were discussing someone's trip to Seaworld. They seemed very nice, but the entire time I was there, they were pretty redundant, just gabbing away, except on the rare cases when two or more people showed up & needed service at exactly the same time. The One Guy checked all my paperwork, found it ok for the "new Federal ID license/thingie" & told me to take a seat. Probably four people there ahead of me, when I sat down on a weekday AM. One lady there was already complaining about her long wait. Problem is, while there are three people at the service window to greet you, there is exactly ONE RMV computer & one lady working it. So she can only do one person's new license at a time. The rest of us sat & waited our turn. No one jumped the line, everyone was nice. Glad I brought my Kindle. My personal wait was about 45-50 minutes. It took about 15 minutes for her to do the paperwork & take my picture, eye test, etc once I was up. She was very nice but obviously very busy. She said sometimes the wait was two hours, FYI. I got a paper temporary printout, the real license comes in the mail. SO SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO GO - READ THE INSTRUCTIONS & DO the paperwork ONLINE beforehand for the new license thingie. Saves a ton of time. It tells you EXACTLY what paperwork to bring. Leave blank what you are not sure of, they will help you when you arrive. If you don't have a printer, they have paper copies of the forms there for you to fill out. I'd DEFINITELY check online to see what the wait times at the area DMV's are. Because I think many times they'd be faster with more than one person to process the paperwork. Not awful, not great, so OK from me. read more

I went there to get my license renewed. There was a short line (3 others) at 9:10am when I got there. While I was waiting a gentleman from an other party of AAA came over and made sure that the people in line had what they needed as far as paper work. I had gone online ahead of time and filled out the application and I had all the correct documents which helped make the process easier. When I got to the RMV desk the gentleman there was professional. I was back in my car twenty minutes later. Overall, a good experience. read more

No one here is trying to work fast or efficiently, if you want a liscense renewal you might as well go to the rmv. This place is no better.

We went in on a Saturday morning around 10am. There were 2 associates on hand helping other people with maps and trip plans. There was also a greeter and another person off to the side staring at a computer. We were there for the discounted Canobie Lake tickets. When we walked in, we were the first in line, and as we waited for half an hour, the line grew longer to the point where it stretched to the door. There was a LOT of grumbling and, by the time the associates were finally able to help us with our 2 minute task, there was a moderate amount of audible complaining from the rest of the customers. Once they were able to help us, the service was good for a standard transaction, but it should not have taken half an hour to attend to our needs. I am not exaggerating. Perhaps things are different now, but this was only a couple weeks ago (early June 2014). Its clear that whoever was supervising the shift should have better managed the queue by having an associate step away from whoever they were helping to temporarily aid waiting customers. This experience, however, probably won't stop us from utilizing this branch again as AAA offers excellent benefits to its members, cheap tickets nonwithstanding. It is, as they say, the only game in town. read more

My experiences have been very positive. Special kudos to Sharon in the Customer Service Area and Leona C. in the Travel dept. Both have given me service that has superseded my expectations. I've been a AAA member or decades and have dealt with the Lowell, Ma. office exclusively in the last 2 and a half decades. They provide the personal touch by phone and/ or by visiting them onsite that you can't get on the internet or find in travel books. read more

I went to get my license renewed (which I didn't know I could until I checked the RMV). The line was short. The staff was courteous and helpful, checking to see if I was being helped while in line. Clean facilities. Parking is a little limited, but I had no problem finding a space. I keep forgetting how many services and discounts being a member provides. Really need to take more advantage of it. read more

Used AAA of Merrimack Valley in Lowell to renew Massachusetts drivers license. It was a pleasant experience. I was able to complete the necessary form from an online copy before going to the AAA office, and once there had just a short wait to be served. After going over the paperwork, the AAA employee had me take an eye exam and then pay for the renewal. He was very courteous and helpful throughout the process, I walked out with a paper copy, and later received a new license from the MA Registry. Everything had gone well, and in a much shorter time than waiting at the Registry office. read more

Awful, awful experience with Jason and the other three men working the day after Thanksgiving. Not only were they rude, but they provided misinformation over the phone and then were unwilling to admit to their mistake or be accommodating in any way upon our arrival. Its expected that if someone is in customer service that their goal would be to remain friendly and professional even if they are ultimately unable to help. This was absolutely not the case at this AAA location and I would caution anyone to avoid visiting. This experience has seriously made me reconsider being a AAA member as a can get all their services elsewhere. At minimum, I will tell everyone I know to avoid contact with Jason and the other men who work in this office. read more

I stopped in to sign up for a couple of E-Z Pass transponders. The service was great - the wait was minimal. The staff was very professional and friendly. Explained the whole process, issued my transponders and I was on my way in no time at all. So glad I chose this option instead of heading to the RMV!! read more

We booked our honeymoon with Danielle at the AAA Travel agency in Lowell, MA. She was really helpful, great insight on the best value and places that offered what we wanted vs what we didn't. We got a lot of information from her on the weekend (Saturday). We went back the next weekend to book with her. We forgot our passports but she was so kind. She gave us her card with her cell phone number and told us to call her when we got back home to tell her exactly how our names appear on our passports in order to avoid any issues. I felt like she went above and beyond. She could have just told us to come back another day (the office was closing when we left) but instead she completed our booking from her house on her off time. I've been a AAA member since the 80's. Wouldn't travel without it. Also, used them to exchange U.S. cash into the Euro for a trip to Europe last fall. Applied for an EZ Pass transponder last week. All of these transactions went smooth and took very little time. I'm grad we have a AAA agency in Lowell. I'll continue to be a member for years to come. read more
