I'll start with my DMV experience at this office. I have had special service license plates on my last three vehicles. The dealers are unable to switch them over to a new vehicle so it necessitates a trip to either AAA or DMV. Well, the last two times I traded vehicles, I went to AAA and had them reassign my special service plates to my new vehicle. I went there recently to do the same thing. They told me this time that they were not able to do so and I would have to go to DMV. They told me they have never had that ability. The lady who had previously made the adjustment was sitting right there at the counter. I told her, "You did it last time." She just shook her head and said they have never done that. So, one more trip up the hill to DMV. Now as far as roadside assistance goes, forget it. I had a dead battery on my former vehicle a few months ago about 15 miles from home. I called AAA and after negotiating their automated phone tree for at least 6 minutes, I was referred to a website to enter my vehicle and member info. I could not talk to a person no matter how hard I tried. So, I went to the website. I was asked to enter my vehicle license number. I have special service plates as noted above. It kept telling me my license plate was invalid. I tried at least a half dozen times and received the same response. I just gave up. Luckily my wife was home that day and I had her come out and bring me our booster box to jump my truck. What happens if I'm stranded on the freeway somewhere a hundred miles from home? AAA road service is not what it used to be. I am going to look for alternatives. read more

AAA used to be one of the most reputable companies in the the insurance industry. They have become one of the worst in just the last 5 years. My sister was T-boned by a AAA customer that ran a red light. 3 weeks and dozens of calls and they still haven't taken responsibility for the accident. My sister has AAA as well and her representative wont return her call. When they called to tell her that her car was totaled and that she had only 3 days to accept the offer, it was someone other than her representative. read more

Really, really bad customer service and a proof that you can not rely on this company. When my AAA battery under warranty died, I called them more than 15 times over the course of 3 days to deliver me a replacement battery. They kept assuring me they are working on it and kept canceling the requests (as "done"), kept sending the same service company 3 times which already told them that they dont have my battery. Spoke also with 3 managers and more than 10 employees. Still there was no solution and they did not deliver the battery which was their liability. Left me immobilized for 3 days and ultimately did not deliver a battery - just remained quiet read more

I've waited 3 hours for a AAA tow truck that never arrived. After initially being given a time frame of 2 hours. I started calling back to check on the status of my tow. After numerous phone calls, each time being told by dispatch that someone would call me back with an ETA, that never happened. Finally, after 3 hours of waiting in the hot sun, I demanded to speak with a supervisor. A very nonchalant supervisor tells me that they are not able to service San Francisco today, that I should look for other towing services and submit a claim with AAA. The supervisor had no explanation as to why I was told repeatedly that a tow truck was ordered. To add insult to injury, I received a text that a driver was 5 minutes away, the driver was for a AAA client in Woodlands CA (not me). Thank God this happened during daylight hours and not a night. I called my insurance carrier (Progressive), I had a tow truck within 45 minutes and several texts from Progress with updates. This is not what I expected from AAA Northern California- Zero stars. read more

Horrible service! They provide a smart phone app with a countdown timer, and I elected to receive text messages. They provided no updates at all while I waited for over an hour past the time they said they would be there. I had to call multiple times and wait on hold while someone "looked into" my request, and they never could reach the driver that was allegedly dispatched to assist me. I should receive a full refund for the membership dues I pay year after year and never call for help. When I finally do have a need they can't be bothered. I'll be cancelling my membership and next time I have a need for assistance I'll call a friend to come help me. AAA sucks! read more

Today my life was saved by a wonderful emergency roadside technician, Ethan Cornell. My car wouldn't start, I'm stranded with a baby and a dog out in the middle of Truckee heat, and with auto shops closed on Sundays, I have no way of getting home and getting back out to one to pick up my car. Ethan shows up, bringing water and drinks for us, immediately spots the problem with the battery (the folks who put it in didn't tighten things/needs a new terminal/etc., and saves our lives. This is the reason that I will always have AAA service and insurance/everything - because every single time my car won't start, their guys know exactly what they're talking about and go out of their way to solve the problem, saving me thousands of dollars that, as a single mom, I don't have. Former employee here. This company preaches about how they care about their employees and their mental health until it comes to their needs and what they want. Not to mention they have broken so many HIPPAA violations as well. Prime example is when I had a seizure while on the call floor and a supervisor proceeded to videotape me and send it to his colleagues. I had reported such incident to HR and asked them to keep my name anonymous at the time, but that next day I was approached by the same supervisor asking why I had reported him. Further more a specific manager there favors women in a unprofessional way making them feel uncomfortable in the work place. And yes he is still employed there. Brief: I contacted AAA to determine why I had sensors showing on my car dash. AAA gave this service request to Pro-Star. A simple "wrong battery size" has resulted in a broken car door and me having to take time off of work for quotes and repairs. Long version: TI noticed several warning lights on my dash on my drive to work. During my noon break, I contacted AAA to put a sensor on the battery to determine the codes for the lights. I needed to determine if the car was safe to drive to the mechanic on the weekend or if I needed to have it towed. AAA gave the service request to Pro-Star. During this break, I got gas (my car door was fine) and met the Pro-Star service person back at my office. He arrived at about 12:22pm. When he arrived I explained the reason for the call (put the scanner on the battery and explain why the sensor were on). Knowing it would take a few minutes to scan the VIN, apply the sensor, and wait for the reading, I decided to grab a pre-made sandwich from a lunch truck a few yards away. I told the Pro-Star service person of my plans and told him I'd be right back. I was there for 5 minutes and barely paid for my items, I was 1st in line, and I see the Pro-Star person driving towards me. He handed me my keys out his window and told me there were no lights on my car and that the battery was fine and fully charged. I explained to him, again, the reason for the call and that there were, at least 5 lights on. Of course, the battery was fine, I'd had "winter services" done the weekend before with a new battery, new tires, and an oil change. The Pro-Star person would not return to my car to look with me. Feeling weird about the interaction and my unresolved issues, I return to my car and see my car door handle gapped open. I try to open my car door and it wouldn't open. The handle was loose and not engaging anything to open itself. I immediately called the Pro-Star person back and even called their company; no answer (and no returned call since). My car door was broken by the Pro-Star service person. I contacted AAA about the broken door handle and the original issue. AAA gave me a claim form. I have to include quotes for repair for AAA to determine if they'll approve my claim. AAA would not send its own claim team out. I must take time off to find a body shop and request a quote. Diagnostic costs me money directly and taking time off, even on a weekend, costs me (nobody is open on Sundays, my only day off). This means I have to take off work because the car dealership and service department is only open M-F 8am-12pm for diagnostics. I work in healthcare for a hospital and have my own practice; this running around has thrown off and will throw off my business. I have to enter the passenger side and climb over to the driver's seat. The door won't open from the inside or outside. I had the car towed home because of the battery. The tow truck driver couldn't climb over to mount the vehicle and I essentially had to go with him, at 10 pm at night, to put my own car on and off the tow truck. I can't just leave the door broken and wait for AAA to determine if they're liable for damages. Not being able to utilize a driver-side door is VERY dangerous and it would appear AAA doesn't care. I need to go through their red tape. Talk about insult to injury! This guy isn't going to admit to breaking my door. He closed my door, locked it, and probably pulled entirely to hard on the handle to make sure it was locked (I'm assuming here). My co-workers, also taking a break in their cars, said NOBODY else touched my car, in the 5 minutes that he was there with it. They noted the speed of the service request too; it was quick. Side note- I asked AAA not to send the same company out to determine the "lights on the dash" issue and they did anyway. The second Pro-Star service person, very nice guy, was willing to hear what his colleague had done and shared the number for their corporate office (still no returned call). He saw the lights (I was beginning to think I was in the Twilight Zone...there ARE lights there!). He also immediately assessed that the battery, although new, was completely wrong for my car. read more

After placing an inferior battery in my care their Customer Experience team said too bad unless I use them to replace the battery. It would if been nice if they had more empathy as I have now spent over $600 on tow and service charges. They left me high and dry then told me if I gave a bad review I would be hearing from their lawyers. I am waiting to hear from them. read more

Cold Springs, NV -- Car battery died at the house. Used the AAA app to request a jump and it seemed to work pretty good. Got an estimated time when someone would be here within 10 minutes. The ETA was 30 minutes. The app continued to update me every 5 minutes but for some reason it was not the driver who actually showed up. They did show up within 30 minutes though. Not sure what the hiccup was. Anyway, they jump started the car and I went down to O'Reilly's and bought a new battery. Wish there was some way, using the app, to request that they bring a new battery. Anyway, overall I was happy with the service and renewed my membership for another year. read more

If I had a "no star" choice I would have picked that. After being with AAA for 42 years and always receiving good service I was very surprised and appalled at the service (or actually "no service") I received last week. After my clutch died and I could not drive my car any more I called for a tow. I was told that it would take between 60 and 120 minutes for them to arrive and that I would be given texts or calls with updates for ETA. After two hours I called to find out what the status of the tow was, since I hadn't heard from them. I was told that because of Covid and excessively heavy traffic it would be another 60 to 180 minutes but that I would be hearing from them via text or phone. After another two hours (that's 4 hours total) and not getting any texts or calls I called again. I was told the same message and that I would have to wait another 180 to 240 minutes before the tow would arrive. I then told them to cancel the tow and that I would probably also cancel my membership and that I would get another tow. The other tow arrived 20 minutes after I called and was very reasonable cost-wise. Cost really didn't matter because AAA said they would pay for the other, commercial, tow. I had to wonder two things: (1) why they didn't tell me after two hours of waiting to get another company to tow (which they eventually did after 4 hours) and (2) if it was so easy a procedure to get reimbursement what that really means about how organized and functional they are in the first place (and why be a member). I wrote to the CEO and complaint department and will see if and when they respond. read more

I ran out of gas due to gauge failure on long trip. I've been a AAA member since 1967 and a Premier member for 12 years. I called for a fuel delivery at 11:30 pm from I-5 Central Valley. They advise that it'll be escalated to priority due to my being stranded on the Frwy. An hour later I get a call from the provider stating that he's over an hour away still. I had a gas can with me and could see gas stations off in the distance at the next exit. I told the provider to "never mind", don't bother, I'd take care of it myself. I called dispatch back to cancel the service call. I explained the two hour wait and that I would now be walking over half an hour in the middle of the night alongside the freeway as a petite woman by myself and they were all too eager to cancel the call. This year was definitely my last waste of $120 to AAA road service. read more

You often wonder how people lock themselves out of their cars! Well, I did just that - brilliantly locked the keys in the trunk when I was supposed to be driving to SFO from Burlingame, CA to fly back to Texas! I called AAA while my daughter called the car rental agency. We were in a hurry and just wanted the fastest service available. Because I couldn't track our AAA service person online, I called them. Kelly at AAA said that service was cancelled because the rental agency was using AAA too. She advised to cancel the rental agency call and reinstate my own AAA service. I was afraid I would lose time doing that, and she said it'll be the same driver, same everything - I just get to save the $80 the rental agency was going to charge me. She contacted the service person as well as the rental car agency for me. She was was the bright spot out of my morning! In addition, the service person was really pleasant and quick. He had us get in the truck with air until he got my car on board, I have had tows in the past but he was the best!! I don't like AAA insurance. It's not reliable at all! !!I hope somebody can see this. I have my car insured by AAA about one and a half year. Everything goes well before I got an incident four months ago. And I didn't have a good experience for this only one case. If you can't do your job please don't blame your customer! When the incident happened, I reported to AAA immediately, they asked all my information and let me wait for the claim manager to contact me, also, they ask me keep all the photos. I waited for almost one month and nobody contacted me. Working without a car is so unconvinced. You couldn't imagine how stressful and helpless I was at that time, so after talked to my AAA agent, I decided to repair my car first, and had all the photos and receipts ready for when the claim person contacted me. At that time I thought there was no problem with that. During that time still nobody contacted me. So I called the customer service again, they told me someone would call me. Then I got the call said " it's too late to report the claim". What is that? How would you accept that. This is so ridiculous, nobody contact me for three months and then told me it was too late? I thought AAA is the best so I switched. It was not my fault caused the delay. If you think my accident is little and you couldn't help me when I need help then please refund my trust refund my money. Why should I pay your fault? AAA is not reliable, do not trust them. I went to the Antioch branch and they took your name and phone number and would call you went they had an opening. They said 6 people were ahead of me and it would be about 15 minutes. An hour later still no call. I had things to do so I left and decided to head home and go to the Jackson branch. A mile from the Jackson branch I get a call from the Antioch branch that they have an opening. 2 1/2 hours after I first contacted them. My total time at the Jackson branch was about 7 minutes. I'll never bother with the Antioch branch again. read more

They refused to let me use the 200 mile tow as first claiming because vehicle not current registered (in NON-OP and current according to DMV) and even AAA issued moving permit based on this. Then they changed mind and said because a convenience tow...which is it?! I'm pretty sure just don't want to honor a 200 mile tow that I paid a PREMIER service for...and it was never mentioned of any restrictions. Mind you after 20 + years with AAA, have never been asked if vehicle has insurance or current registration- just an excuse to not honor. Will not be renewing. After letting me know that someone would be right out to help me, the representative gave me a friendly reminder that my membership had expired last week. I was a member of Southern California for 23 years and never had any problem. But the Northern California office is awful. They do not care at all about meeting the needs of their insurers. The towing service for the East Bay is ridiculous: only one company (Seidel in Richmond) that has made me wait from 4-8 hours to be towed for three separate incidents over the years. They could care less. I also had a horrible experience with a very unprofessional claims person located in Nevada. I am quitting and would NEVER recommend anyone use this insurer. I was willing to pay more but now that I see what the Northern California is like, time to find another insurer! read more

As a road service member for over 30 years I am extremely disappointed and angry regarding AAA's lack of service and their terrible customer service. We were left stranded on the side of the road for over 16 hours (including overnight), when AAA could provide a tow. We eventually took matters into our own hands and tried to get help from Five Star Towing. We paid them $300 in cash to put on a new wheel and tire and get us back on the road. Unfortunately, their solution didn't work and we remained stranded and now out $300. None of this would have happened if AAA would have provided the tow service we paid to have. A word to all road service members who think AAA will be there if you need a tow. I was told by AAA that sometimes they just can't find a tow. read more

Denied roadside service after being a customer for over 25 years. Apparently due to a glitch with my payment, which I was informed of months after renewing. You think they would have an escalation process in place to perhaps waive their imposed $75 penalty and also the requirement that I call back right then (while stranded by the way) and renew over the phone. I got rear-ended by another driver and hurt my neck and back. I went to both Kaiser Permanente and the SSU Student Health Center immediately. Doctors at both facilities told me I should heal within a few weeks. That didn't happen. Since I was still in pain months later I went to a chiropractor and she tried to adjust my spine to repair the damage from the accident. I had 65 adjustments over eight months. I tried to connect with the AAA Casualty Specialist Corey Cobe and it took a ridiculous number of attempts to get a hold of him. And he didn't even know who I was when I did. When he finally got his info straight we discussed a bodily injury settlement. Lawyers told me to expect about $6000, but he offered $500. He suggested it was "unrealistic" for me to seek treatment months after the accident. Wow. I even had documentation showing I sought treatment from two medical facilities immediately after the accident and two doctors told me to let it heal over weeks, which didn't happen. The case was transferred from Corey to Tammy Ruffner-Ward and she told me the same thing, which was accusatory. It appeared she was saying I got chiropractic treatment just to get a higher bodily injury settlement. Excuse me for listening to the doctors! And excuse me still feeling pain months later to need chiropractic treatment! Did she think 65 visits to the chiropractor's office was for profit? Disgusting. Since Tammy couldn't seem to get her info straight, was making accusations, was rude, I contacted the leadership of AAA to ask them if the agents are seen as good employees for screwing people out of money and saving the company money. Deborah M., a Casualty Supervisor contacted me and admitted the company ad its reps didn't do everything they could have to handle my case. She offered $2500 for a bodily injury settlement, so it was clear that just the Casualty Adjustors either were being unfair. And she said since I didn't rent a car that AAA would have covered, that the offer could go up even more. Tammy was apparently clueless about this because she called me back and continued telling me the offer was $500. Deborah called me again and upped the offer from $2500 to $3500, which I reluctantly accepted to get this over with. I still feel like I was scammed. read more
