Let's be real. Insurance companies are crooked. My car is getting older every year yet my…read moreinsurance rates are climbing every year despite my excellent driving record. Home insurance is no different. It's required for everyone who possesses a loan yet if you live in a fire zone, you are considered "high risk" and will be expensive, if you can find it. Now if you live in CA, every area is a fire zone. I bet you they even consider Alcatraz a risk bc there are trees on the island. This year I finally decided to put my foot down and look for another company for my Homeowner's bc of the annual price hikes. I called Richard and got a really attractive quote but there were some conditions: 1) I need to install a Moen water flow monitoring device 2) I need to have a gas shutoff device and 3) Need to have an alarm system active which was not disclosed to me when the quote was provided. I felt this was a bit shady since this spending adds ~$600 to the amount I'm trying to save. The Moen monitoring device is not cheap. Since I have a 1 1/2" inlet water feed, I needed to buy the largest one Moen makes which is $500-600 on Amazon. I called around and some plumbers will sell them to you but of course they upcharge you so you're better off buying it yourself and hiring a plumber to install it. For complete transparency this total cost can set you back $2500-$3500 installed. All this device does is monitor your water flow and can shut off the water in case there's a pipe burst. Not very likely tbh but it's just another way Farmers is trying to disqualify anyone who cannot meet their demands. The gas shutoff device was a requirement for all homes built after the year 2000 in CA. My house is only about 5 yrs old which means it has it yet Farmers REQUIRES you to provide proof it was installed by the builder which I could not provide. That's like asking the builder to provide proof that you have 5/8" drywall installed. You know it's there, they know it's required by code yet they are finding another fiery hoop for you to jump through. They would not accept a picture as proof but wanted specific documentation which was impossible to obtain. I called PGE, the city, the builder, the plumber who build the house, and even the manufacturer of the device to see if they could provide this documentation. I spent weeks and finally was able to get the proof Farmers finally signed off on it. Throughout this process, Richard was very helpful. He return my calls and provided advice on how to obtain proof for the gas shutoff. He was actually compassionate about my ordeal and even offered to help pay for a plumber to help me obtain this certification. In the end, I got it figured out but I still stand behind my statement about insurance companies being scammers. They know homes built after 2000 has them installed yet they still force people through this agonizing process. The ones that cannot provide it simply get dropped and they are ok with this. I give Farmers a big fat 0 but Richard So's office a 5. Thanks Richard!

After the following review, Richard So's firm called me and helped me with purchasing additional…read morepolicies. They were knowledgeable and responsive to my questions. --- I have been using Richard So's Farmers Insurance services since 2000. I have a total of 7 policies (home, auto, umbrella, CEA etc.). In the last few months, Richard's team is super unresponsive -even after you do multiple email follows ups or phone follow ups there is no one getting back. I am trying to buy additional insurance policies, and each of these new requests are assigned to different people and even after numerous follow ups and email to Richard, no timely responses are provided. I am concerned about how this company will respond if I get into an accident and need a body shop referral or need a follow up on renewal of my existing policies, because the company is not even responding when I am requesting to buy additional policies.

An 82% increase in 2025!!!…read more I previously had a 6-month cost of $1,257.44, or monthly payment of $209.57 (but was charged $230.30/month and they have not explained why). As I understand, an at-fault parking lot incident would be 1 point. More than two years have passed with a clean record as well as mileage that decreased to 1/10 (if not even less) in the past 8 months. I had no significant increases until this year. I also checked with friends and family with State Farm in California, and they had approximately 17% - 22% increases (which CA approved), not an 82% increase! This is unique to their agency. They are stating that s previously stating that "2 full years have passed since 11/19/2022. A clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or violations is a 0 or SR. Because of this at-fault accident your driver rating should be a 6, but 2 years passed, meaning your driver record is currently now a 4." State Farm billing states that "For every 12 months since the renewal following the occurrence of a chargeable accident or the conviction of a minor violation, the initial assigned Driver Record Level for that chargeable accident or conviction shall be lowered by 1 level." This agency is stating "Every 12-month period, your driver record would decrease by 1 point, meaning this incident will be on your driver record for 4 more years." In the state of CA, at-fault minor parking lot incident is 1 point and is on record for 3 years. This was not a traffic violation or other serious infraction that would result in a 6 rating or longer lasting record. It does not make sense that they JUST decided to raise my payments by 92% after more than two years of a clean record when I am in year 3 and back to a 0 rating. ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. I have obtained four 6-month quotes with other reputable auto insurers with my record that are within $250 of my previous $1257 6-month rate and will no longer do business with Rachel Bhan.
