After their passing, we promptly submitted all required documentation for the beneficiary claims, including death certificates and claim paperwork. What should have been a straightforward process has instead turned into a prolonged and stressful ordeal. Communication has been slow and unclear, and the claim process has involved repeated delays and requests for additional information with little explanation of why the payouts cannot be completed. Families dealing with the loss of loved ones should not have to chase down a financial company for benefits that were specifically intended to help them during a difficult time. Unfortunately, our experience has made an already emotional situation even more stressful. Based on what we have experienced, I would strongly advise anyone considering doing business with EquiTrust to carefully research how their beneficiary claims are handled. How a company treats families after a policyholder passes away says a lot about their values, and our experience has raised serious concerns.

Midland kicked it into gear and within 48 hours of posting my review and having a frank conversation with Midland management, my wife's death claim was paid. When I received the check it was supposed to include interest for the 3 months they sat on the money. They only paid .25% in interest although the contract I had with them said the 2 year treasury rate at my wife's date of death which was 2.98%. When I called the discrepancy to their attention they sent me a check for the rest of the interest within a few days. While I feel they made this much harder and more stressful than it had to be they did finally pay. If you are in the same boat you need to stay on top of them and also read your contract. Verify that your contract is being followed.

I read another review which talked about "rental insurance" after a car accident. As with most insurance companies, that is an add-on and I have had to use it before with State Farm. It isn't very expensive, but it is an optional add-on. The nice thing about James Lunders is that he will sit down with you when you buy a policy then every 6 to 12 months (or however often you want) to go over your coverage and make sure you are protected for what you should have covered. He and his staff explain all the details, options and costs, but in the end let you make the decisions. State Farm has been quick to pay claims and has taken care of all the details of collecting from the other party's insurance company (two car accidents that were both 100% the other person's fault -- no difficulty on my end, they took care of it all and my premiums didn't go up). I would highly recommend both State Farm in general and James Lunders in particular for their service. I believe with all insurance, in the end, it is up to the customer to make sure they know what coverage they have and ensure that they understand what that means (e.g. home flood, car getting flooded, pipe burst, car accident, car rental, towing, uninsured motorist, liability, replacement cost, etc...). They have given me advice on what companies to use in the future as well. If I have a question, I simply email Rob and he gets back to me in a very timely manner. I use Cupp Insurance for both home and auto, I have only ever had one major claim that i had a issue with my insurance company. I told Rob about it and he went to bat for me!

I went to their local office asked that my car policy be un-bundled from other car owners in the household because the other car owners sold their vehicles. They quoted me a premium for just my car, took my check and didn't bother to communicate with the large insurance company who cancelled me without notifying me directly. I drove by my local Cupp Insurance Agency twice a day who never bothered to contact me or anyone in my household to advise I was cancelled! They even stated their notes in their computer confirmed my request to pay for the premium for only my vehicle. Because they neglected to cancel the sold vehicles policies and didn't un-bundle my car I was cancelled, driving around for a month un-insured and have been turned over to a Collection Agency for not paying a premium on sold vehicles they neglected to cancel. After all they already collected their money they left me to fend for myself with the big insurance company and would not communicate their error was the cause of all this frustration. Way to go!
