I am fan girling a little over Frank. I visited my folks…read moreover the holidays from NYC and started researching Lubbock area boot repair shops while I was awaiting my flight. I was wearing my inherited Lucchese boots and I WISH I'd taken a before photo. I've worn them a LOT in the couple of decades I've owned them and both back heels were worn down at an angle into the wood (to the point that wearing them was forcing my knees out of alignment), the wood layers were coming apart, the front sole toe border was worn down to where it met the leather on both shoes, the (originally dark brown) leather was dry and stripped of color in places. Arrived in LBB and mentioned to my parents that I'd looked up repair shops and Frank's had popped and they immediately knew who he is. Turns out, my dad has been taking shoes to him for decades. We called him the next day, he confirmed he was open so we went by to take my boots and a pair of dress shoes for my dad. When I plopped my boots on the counter, Frank let out a little "whoo". (I TOLD you they were in bad shape.) But, he quoted a reasonable price and even rushed the pick up date to accommodate my imminent departure. When we returned the next day to retrieve our footwear, I couldn't believe my eyes. My beloved but formerly oh-so-sad boots were once again made for walkin'.

I made phone call after phone call to the business, but was never able to speak with the owner. The employee who answered the phone always had a reason why he wasn't available. We were assured time and again that the boots were almost done. We were told they would be done way before our son graduated in May 2025. As May 2025 approached we were assured they would be ready for us to try on when we were there for graduation. When we were in Lubbock for my sons graduation we stopped by the shop to check status of the boots. The owner was not around and his wife came out to talk to us, but didn't know the status of the boots and refused to refund us for the down payment we had made on the boots. If you are considering placing an order for boots from this shop, don't. You will put a large down payment on a product you will never see.

Last week, I took a pair of boots in again to get the same thing done. A miscommunication led to them removing half of a good sole to put on the rubber half-sole. The workmanship was far better this time, but not what I had asked for. I took them back the next day and addressed the issue. They made it right. You can't ask more than that. I left a second pair with them to have a new heel cap installed. They have earned my business.

There is a good selection and usually a nice small sale section. Pricing is above average, but reasonable for this type of store. The quality is good and something you can count on. There are definitely some pieces I can't justify spending the money on within my budget. However, I appreciate that there is a wide range of price points. What I love about J Roberts: -It's across the street from Francesca's (my other go-to store). -They have a constantly changing inventory. -Their sales rack has consistently good deals. -The inventory is one of a kind. -Their social media presence helps me to know if I want to swing by on that particular day based on rent posts about inventory. -They cater to Texas Tech game day apparel during that season. -They have trendy and timeless pieces. -They offer lots of styling ideas within the store on everything from clothing to accessories. -The staff is always super friendly and helpful. They always set up a room for me before I'm even done picking out items. -They sometimes serve mimosas during special sales or holidays. Are you convinced yet? Go check it out!
