The curry on the curried rice was just coloring, no flavor whatsoever. The basmati rice was dry and clumped together. I'm told there had been a change in chefs, and that is a pity. I certainly didn't see any of the residents taking leftover boxes. For what the residents pay to live here they deserve top of the line food and prep.

It was wonderful for the year and a half Mom was there in Assisted Living, but the her level of care increased to needing a Plan B skilled nursing care facility.. The Village at Incarnate Word is a Senior Living Community located next door to UIW, but not part of UIW. The Village offers independent living, two levels of assisted living, licensed by the state of Texas, a memory care area, also state licensed and a 60 bed nursing care area, also licensed by Texas. The Village at Incarnate Word offers apartment style living options in all areas except the nursing care, which is mostly private rooms with baths, although there are a few double rooms available. A wide variety of activities are available for all residents, including concerts, plays, sporting events and the opportunity to audit classes at UIW. The staff are dedicated and the residents are friendly. My mom was in the nursing area for two years and received very good care. I would not hesitate to recommend The Village at Incarnate Word for retirement living.

Unfortunately there just aren't enough aids to take proper care of the residents they are assigned way to much work to do so they don't have time. The management of this facility is pittifull. The charge nurse is totally unprofessional in her attire and her attitude. This facility is constantly changing management. When the facility was Emeritus the management was totally professional and caring. Recently the rent is going up by 50% with no added care. Just be careful when considering this facility for your loved one. Any assistance to the residents is an additional charge (ie) showing them to their room, that is considered Redirecting. Please be aware and ask many many questions about levels of care. Look around at MANY other facility's before you make a decision.

We couldn't have done it without help from Sisters Care!…read more Our mother broke her ankle and needed inpatient rehab after the surgery to repair it. She is also in stage 5 Alzheimer's dementia and had a very bad reaction to the anesthesia used during the surgery; a very common side effect for those with dementia. Family members and friends were by her side all day and evening, but we didn't have anyone who could be there at night. Mom was having extremely vivid nightmares and would be very upset when she woke up in the middle of the night disoriented and feeling an urgent need to get out of bed and run away! Sisters Care from The Village at Incarnate Word provided the overnight coverage for us. The "angels" who helped Mom were able to reorient and help her to calm down so she could go back to sleep. They also kept her from walking on her broken ankle before it was sufficiently healed. I wish I could mention each of our caregivers directly.... Onboarding was seemless and stress free. We explained moms level of dementia and a "story" to go along with. Mom was getting a "personal assistant" once a week for companionship and shopping for any of her personal needs. The care givers were so kind! No pressure...just friendship. During the Covid-19 situation, they have followed a strict hygiene protocol and have locked down the facility to protect the residents. We are grateful for their prompt attention to this issue and we know that their actions are the reason that none of the residents have contracted the virus. Whenever we have visited previously, we are always cheerfully greeted by staff.

When the memory care facility near…read moreher Iowa home told our family in 2014 they could no longer care for her, we decided a big move to be near me in San Antonio was the best thing. Through A Place for Mom, I found Colonial Gardens and grateful they had a place for mom! We've never regretted it. They're dedicated to dementia-related residents and the facility design is conducive to that: the two buildings with up to 16 and 20 private rooms and homey dining and living rooms. Both have huge, peaceful fenced backyards. CG is older than many facilities in town, but generally well cared for. However, the caregivers make the difference at CG. Despite the fairly frequent turnover of some staff and directors over the years, our favorites remain constant and genuinely caring (Executive Director Georgina Merrill and her team, to include Laura Maharich, are great). We can never thank them enough for their dedication to be mom's loving extended family. Remarkably, she's been at CG for almost 6 years with little illness except the continuing decline from the Disease, which is a testament to the great care she receives there. (As I write this review, we're in the midst of The Pandemic and they're selfless in protecting our loved ones.)
