Would highly recommend this hostel/hotel. It's like a college dormitory turned into a hotel. Location, staff, cleanliness were all great!

The building seems to have been recently renewed and refurbished, so the toilets/showers looked new, shiny and very clean. There are only 2 showers per floor (at least on the second one), and although I didn't have any problem, I guess you may want to be quick for the shower in the morning if you stay here in the high season. There's also a hair dryer. I stayed in an 8-bed dorm and the room was really big and comfortable (not the usual packed dorm with too many beds). There was a table with some stools and also big lockers (more than enough for a 50-liter backpack) with integrated keys (no need to bring or buy an extra lock, it has a coin opening system). Free Wi-Fi with good functioning. Staff was also nice and they are 24 h there.

The lockers in the room are only 1 euro and you get it back when you unlock it. My only complaint was that the hostel faces a busy street and it's right across from the U-bahn station. On hot summer nights, you face the choice of either roasting in your room or being woken up by every passing ambulance in the night.

On accident i spilled wine on my jacket & the lady working washed my clothes for me and folded them and put them in a bag by my things . And we needed to stay late after our check out because our bus didn't leave until later & the staff were very kind & welcoming to us staying in the lobby until later. The kitchen is large & fully equipped even with spices. The rooms were spacious and the heaters worked very well. The only downside was the showers turned off automatically so it was really cold taking a shower and you have to press the button every 30 seconds but im sure they were just trying to save water.

Free tea and coffee and two drink vending machines make your life easer. But there is no comfy-zone or common room there: only one little couch in a corner and some bistro tables . The owner seems to be nice, he tries to create a special atmosphere by backing waffles for breakfast and having a customer-friendly attitude. The big plus is that even when the hostel is overbooked, there are still options like an occasional bed. Nevertheless the hostel is small, corridors and stair house are cramped. One of the unisex bathrooms doesn't have a lock. A huge huge minus in my opinion are the video cams in common rooms. I do understand a security concerns, but eating and cooking under surveillance was not so agreeable. Weekends are little noisy, because of the bars downstairs. But on the other hand you are in the middle of Nurnberg's shopping/ museum / bar&club mile. So why stay inside? City Hostel definitely better than the Let me Sleep-Hostel! Cleaner and quieter. So let it be your first choice.

Fabulous Nuremberg hotel in an ideal location!…read more When researching hotels prior to our trip I ended up choosing Karl August based on price and style...and I'm very glad, as we couldn't have been happier with my choice. After wandering all around the area we decided that Karl really did have the ideal location for our needs. Sitting only a block from the Hauptmarkt right off the river, the hotel is within walking distance of the castle, the market, many notable attractions, loads of shopping and restaurants...yet strangely peaceful and quiet at night. The hotel is clearly new, with a sleek, modern style. We reserved 2 rooms and requested connecting rooms if possible. We ended up with 2 rooms at the end of a hall, each with their own door, but both doors within their own lockable third door and entryway. The rooms were a good size with a very modern decor. The beds and pillows were very comfortable, and every space we visited within the hotel was spotless. Checkin was simple, and the staff exceptionally friendly. There is a coffee shop next to the lobby, and multiple restaurant options within the block. While breakfast was not included, we received vouchers for free hot beverages upon arrival. And honestly for the price paid and the feel of the hotel, not getting an included meal seemed fair. We would stay here again in a heartbeat, and highly recommend Karl August to anyone planning a trip to Nuremberg.

The staff are friendly and knowledgeable to direct guest and make suggestions for the area including restaurants and activities. Morning breakfast here is simple but filling, including eggs, bacon, yogurt, fruits, and various pastries. It is a small hotel with generously sized rooms. The Highlight to this hotel is the location as it overlooks The Hauptmarkt which is the Main Market Square. It proved to be the PERFECT location as we could open our windows and look directly at The Christmas Markets which are held there every winter! Making purchases at The Christmas Markets and walking it up to the room, coming down for more and repeat! Absolutely perfect! Some of the best restaurants and The Frauenkirche (church) is also a stone's throw from the hotel. Surprisingly enough the walls and windows are so well insulated that you cannot hear any noise from the outside including the bell that rings from the church! Basically, this is the best hotel in the city if you want to be in the heart of the city. Friendly staff, sizeable rooms, good breakfast and views that are unrivaled! The only thing missing is a gym but you are on vacation!

The breakfast was a typical German breakfast - which to me is generally delicious (plain yogurt, granola etc. fruit, eggs, boiled eggs, etc.). I will probably stay here again as it is super convenient for my work commitments, I enjoyed the staff and I had a nice breakfast.

The breakfast was phenomenal, and was in the cutest room. The whole hotel felt like a castle. I seriously would want to like have my wedding there or something. I wish the gym had a treadmill, but frankly I'm happy they had a gym at all with a bike. I really have no complaints. Everything about this hotel was wonderful. And if you're wondering about the location, don't worry for a moment. It's about a three minute walk from the train station (I know what you're thinking, but I promise this train station isn't dodgy at all and there are no bad characters hanging around, so it's totally safe!) sits in the middle of the wonderful Main Street for shopping, Christmas markets, and fruit stands. It's right by a few museums, too! You honestly couldn't ask for a better location. The walls were thick in the hotel so you never heard a sound from the street or other rooms either. Again, this was one of the absolute best hotels I've ever stayed at in my life.

It is great for longer stays--our room was spacious and came with a stove, oven/microwave, fridge, and small washer/dryer. Some instructions for using the appliances would have helped. Like most European hotels, there's no ice machine, but they will give you ice from the bar if you ask. These are all nitpicks, though, and overall I thought it was an excellent experience for a very reasonable price! The small pool, sauna, and gym were also nice. It was a bit of a challenge to find as you went out the door at the end of the hall to find it. It was so quiet and had a view of the Old City Walls and gate. Thankful for air conditioning and complimentary bottles of mineral water in the room. Thirsty? Grab more water from the orange fridge in the lobby. There is also a full honor bar down stairs with drinks and snacks. Our room included a full breakfast buffet in the morning.
